Amee: Effexor tapering

Has anyone else here tapered off Effexor xl 37.5 beads? I’m down to 10 . It’s been a month. Anxiety high, agitation, insomnia. First time I’ve ever been on AD. Was on Xanux for 10 years and put on Effexor to calm down so to speak ?

Hi Amee, welcome to SA!  I'm glad you've found us.

At SA we generally recommend very slow tapering - dose drops of no more than 10% of current dose, and waiting at least 3 or 4 weeks until stabilised before the next drop.  See: Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

Topic title:  Effexor Xr withdraws

 

This is my second post . I’ve been reading through this forum but have yet to find any Effexor stories. Looking for other people whom have been where I’m at or successfully stopped Effexor. I’ve only been on for 10 months but gained almost 45 pounds . My Dr. gave me Wellbutrin and said to alternate every day. I decided I don’t want any more ADs . I was always anti anti depressant until I was so anxious at the end of the taper of xanux that I gave in. It worked but came with the weight gain.

 

I talked to the pharmacist when he gave me a print out of the Wellbutrin possible side/effects . I looked at him and said how can this be any safer then benzos? He said “They “ want everyone to be on these type of drugs now.  Maybe he’s referring to the drug companies and profit.
