michaels Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Hi folks, finally after year of tapering I have reached 1mg dose. Without that 1mg I still got withdrawl. So which is the best way and most accurate to get 0.5mg of paroxetine. I have 1mg drops of paroxetine here. Can I dilute them or should I go for pills and solve them? Please help me out
Moderator Emeritus Sassenach Posted November 6, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted November 6, 2019 Hello michaels and welcome to SA. This site is run entirely by volunteer Administrators and Moderators, all have been through or going through withdrawal. There are no commercial interests or influences involved . Congratulations on tapering successfully to 1mg. What was your dose at the start of the taper and when did you begin? When did you reduce to 1mg? Do you have W/D symptoms at the moment, if so what are they? Paroxetine is notoriously difficult to taper off and the final reductions can be the hardest. Please do not consider dropping to .5mgs which represents a 50% reduction which is way too high. why-taper-by-10-of-my-dosage/ tips-for-tapering-off-paxil-paroxetine/ how-to-calculate-dosages-and-dilutions-spreadsheets-and-calculators/ how-to-make-a-liquid-from-tablets-or-capsules/ Please do not make any further reductions until we have chance to work with you, it would be awful to get it wrong after so much patience and determination. Moderator Emeritus Rhiannon Posted November 6, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted November 6, 2019 I would just like to underline, please don't drop from 1 mg to 0.5 mg. It is actually hardest to taper at the lowest doses, please see this: So under 1 mg you are really dropping dramatically in transporter occupancy. It is best to do that in much smaller increments. I think Sassenach has given you some good links about how to taper down that last bit safely. Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten. Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010. Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea. Administrator Altostrata Posted November 6, 2019 Administrator Posted November 6, 2019 Welcome, michaels. Please do not make a reduction of 50% in your paroxetine dosage. If your nervous system is dependent on 1mg paroxetine, it will notice this big decrease. Please talk to your pharmacist about how to measure smaller amounts of liquid than 1mg. You may need a small 1mL or 0.5mL oral syringe. michaels Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Thanks a lot. Started at 10mg one year ago and was reducing 1mg per month. That was somehow manageable. I'm going to start with 0.1mg steps now. But I'm still unsure how accurate these homemade solutions are. Like is there no professional way?
Administrator Altostrata Posted November 7, 2019 Administrator Posted November 7, 2019 Read tips-for-tapering-off-paxil-paroxetine/ In many countries, paroxetine is available as a prescription liquid. You could also get custom dosages compounded in liquid or capsule form. You may also have access to prescription tapering strips. Please read the links we give you. This is not medical advice. Moderator Emeritus Sassenach Posted November 8, 2019 Moderator Emeritus Posted November 8, 2019 Hi Michaels If you can get access to the tapering strips they are an excellent way of ensuring accurate doses.
