Mindset

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any tips for maintaining a positive mindset while tapering? I've decided to take a long and steady approach down from 2.5mg but some days I find my mind just focussing on symptoms which is not helpful. Then I find myself on here researching which is also not helpful. I am doing at least 10 minutes of mindfullness each day however on the bad days I struggle to focus. I think part of my problem is my existing anxiety. I need a positive mindset as this is going to be a long journey.

Temazepan (for sleeep)- as required (no more than one per week) June/July 2020

Valdoxan (for sleep) - 2 weeks in July 2020 - no taper as not required for this drug so stopped straight away

Temazepan again - July/August - as required, noticed interdose withdrawals - fast taper - last dose 4th October 2020

Citalopram (for panic/anxiety which I suspect was due to the other drugs) - 26th August 2020 - have been tapering since 8th October (20mg>15mg (one week)>10mg(one week)>5mg(one week)>2.5mg (one week). Jumped 1st November - 2 days later had anxiety, insomnia, meloncolic jerks. Reinstated 2.5mg and currently tapering from here.

Supplements - Fish Oil, Probiotic, Vitamin C

Hello Calmseeker,

You're not alone. I also find myself focusing on the symptoms and what I've been through all these 20 years. As you said, I also find myself researching. I think I should focus on my goal that is to heal and not to look behind, but to look forward. And also reminding myself that I'm not the only one who suffers in the world makes me feel better. I believe that all these painful times will certainly pass.

Take care.

Hi Calmseeker, it's great that you are looking for non-medication ways to cope and there are some on these forums that can be quite helpful. But be aware that sometimes all of these might fail and be sure not to blame yourself for those times. I have had severe anxiety and obssessiveness caused by WD and there wasn't any amount of mindfulness that helped. I've been trying to create positive experiences to counteract all the negativity that my brain produces in this toxic state, be it seeing friends (if you can), a walk, a distraction of some sort, meditation, whatever you can and be sure to be nice to yourself. That's a good mindset to have :)

"Nothing so small as a moment is insurmountable, and moments are all that we have. You have survived every trial and tribulation that life has thrown at you up until this very instant. When future troubles come—and they will come—a version of you will be born into that moment that can conquer them, too." - Kevin Koenig
