At the moment I feel overwhelmed by the symptoms and I wanna die.

Is it possible to live a fairly normal life during withdrawal?

Thinking that this could last 5 years make me wanna quit.

(19 years old) More or less 2011 Citalopram 20 mg one year for depression following stress by death of my mother quit cold Turkey

2012 rmore or less relapse depression after CT, new psychiatrist put me on Citalopram 20 mg, Depakin 300 mg, Efexxor 75 mg

Don't remember between 2016-2017 tapered over a few months all the drugs with the assistance of my psychologist

2018 relapse (or withdrawal?) depression started Cipralex 20 mg until july 2020 when I tapered during a period of about 4 months until November 2020

February 2021 (29 years old): feeling depressed, can't sleep, anxiety, paranoia, agoraphobia, hardly functional

Currently (since March 4 2021): Lithium Resilient 83mg extended release 2 capsules (forced to take it)

It's going to be ups and downs, waves and windows.  Yes, it's possible to live a fairly normal life during WD though some days it won't seem that way.

When we take psychiatric medications, the CNS (central nervous system) responds by making changes over the months and years we take the drug(s). When the medication is discontinued, the CNS has to undo all the changes it made. Rebuilding the neurotransmitter production and reactivating the receptor and transporter cells takes time -- during that rebuilding process symptoms occur.

These explain the healing process really well.

We don't recommend a lot of supplements on SA, as many members report being sensitive to them due to our over-reactive nervous systems, but two supplements that we do recommend are magnesium and omega 3 (fish oil). Many people find these to be calming to the nervous system.

Hi Marta,

I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time. Your life probably won't be what you knew as normal for a long part of the WD, it will be different but you can adapt to a lot of it and get through. Please use the resources here - other people's wisdom collected in the forum's and the moderators who support you and countless others. This will get better - there will be some respite in between (windows, as Gridley has posted) and some harder times (waves). The only way out is through. This acceptance and the hope that it will get better helped me through a lot. They can get you through as well. Believe it or not, this will get better! Hang in there!
