Fightinghard
Hello @Shellbell- my experience has been yes it does. I’ve been in WD for about 1 year now. In didn’t recognize that many of my symptoms were low level Akathisia that in was dealing with. Back in May i decided to stop taking melatonin but i didn’t want to just stop the .3mg at once. So i cut my dose in half. Well since that time, I’m more sure i have aka and it’s been rough. I did reinstate the melatonin and I’m on .28 mg. I’m tapering off very slowly over the next months to Try to avoid further aka symptoms. The worst part about this is i now realize it’s probably been contributing to me aka this entire time. I have a very clear pattern each night when I take it. melatonin acts on D2 receptors and does lower the dopamine levels. I’m not implying the average person needs to be concerned but anyone in aka works be wise to be careful using it and coming off considering D2 receptors are a pain possible concern with aka. I’m not alone in the support group I’m part of in terms of this experience with aka. There are at least 6 others I’ve found and many more that say melatonin made then worse. I wish this wasn’t the case because it’s set me way back but at least not i know how to manage it moving forward. good luck! 2003-2006- Zoloft then Wellbutrin, Ritalin, concerta , Adderall. Don’t remember dosage, tapers or timeframes. ADD treatment. I think I had some WD? Definitely PSSD which resolved over time. Shellbell
@Fightinghard I have been taking 1mg every night. Is this something I have to taper off then? if I don't take melatonin I don't sleep so I don't know what else to do? 5-28-20 given cymbalta. Had bad reaction. Fightinghard
@Shellbell one more thing, I’m not saying this is happening to you. Its very rare but can happen. Just be careful if you decide to stop it and go slow and see how you react. For me being on it i think it may have added to my symptoms over time. 2003-2006- Zoloft then Wellbutrin, Ritalin, concerta , Adderall. Don’t remember dosage, tapers or timeframes. ADD treatment. Fightinghard
@Shellbell I just saw your answer… I’m not saying to stop it. . There are people that take it with aka and seem ok. Just be aware of it as you go. I’ve decided to come off because i was sleeping ok. Then when I reacted to it i figured i better slowly come off because it’s obviously doing something. 2003-2006- Zoloft then Wellbutrin, Ritalin, concerta , Adderall.
