Aurora9: mirtazapine - 4 months off after a 9 month slow taper from 7.5mg

I was prescribed Mirt about 5 years ago for insomnia and anxiety.  I very slowly worked my way up to 7.5mg, then 15mg for a couple of years then back down to 7.5mg.  The drop from 15mg to 7.5mg made me feel better and I had no trouble with that drop so stayed on 7.5mg until I decided to taper.  I had tolerable symptoms during my taper and jumped at 0.3mg feeling ok.  That lasted about a month and then I was hit with anxiety, dread, depression and a whole lot of physical symptoms I presumed were histamine related.  Hives, eczema, gut issues, air hunger...maybe allergies...I have a chronic cough which might be postnatal drip or maybe bronchitis.  But its fine during the night and morning and gets annoyingly worse as the day goes on.   I stopped high histamine foods and the physical symptoms except air hunger and cough settled and my diet became bland and boring.  The anxiety stayed and I just feel very destabilised and hyper vigilant.  I had a huge emotional family stressful event on New Years eve and that tipped me completely into constant high anxiety and depersonalisation.  I don't know whats happening.  My long slow taper went well.  That was supposed to protect me from what I'm experiencing now.  Any thoughts??  Thanks

Welcome @Aurora9

I'm sorry you are having these symptoms. When did you start tapering down from 7.5mg? How long were you at 0.3mg before you quit? Are you taking any other medications or supplements now? To help us get a clearer picture of your situation please summarize your medication history in a signature following these instructions:

Aside from a high quality fish oil and magnesium, be careful with supplements. Your central nervous system (CNS) has become sensitized from psychiatric drug use and can react unpredictably. Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and other mind altering substances can make the condition worse.
