This just started happening. I can't eat much without wanting to gag and everything tastes unpleasant. Anyone else?

Riseridone (dose unknown) 2010 (no approximate end, short-term use), Aspergers. Tapered. Fluxoetine 10mg 13/14. Direct switch to -- Citalopram 2014/14. Quetiapine 2014/14. 1 week. (Cold turkey, advised by NHS).

Risperidone, 20th March 2016, cold turkey April 10th, 2016 Zoloft, April, 2016, 25mg, increased to 50mg in May, increased to 100mg in late 2016, decreased to 50mg, September 2019(Accidentally)weaned myself off. Reinstated Zoloft 50mg for 3 days - March 23rd to 26th. Early 2021 (changed brand of Zoloft. Tapered down. Med free since 11th February. Waiting to see if any windows happen). Supplements (occasionally l theanine 300mg, trialing CBD) Took a small light dab of powder, barely a compound. Deciding to wait and see what happens afterwards, not wanting to reinstate now.

Took a small dose of L-Theanine (under 20mg). Negative reaction included: sweating, mania, head pressure, head tingling, worse insomnia. Not touching anything ever again.

Anhedonic since March 2020!

Using a THC free edible on the 5th June ruined everything. Insomnia, no appetite, numbness, DP/DR.

@00ColdTurkey

Wd does cause dry mouth symptoms . And there are a lot of nerves endings in mouth. They are part of taste but also they feel and unfortunately these drugs affect every nerve in our body.

For me it comes and goes. Right now it doesn’t taste good, mouth is dry and burning. It does go away. And yes it feels like whole body is dried up. I also get dry sinuses and dry eyes. I lost a dental implant because of this poison. So drink lots of water and double the daily mouth care.

there are other discussions here on burning mouth etc. and members too. Greatful experience this also.

Been struggling with a taste issue the past 3 months.Stuff just doesn't taste right and food i once enjoyed now tastes so bad I won't eat it....Yes it's a real pain in the *ss.😩

1996-2001 Zoloft 50mg to start increasing to 200mg 2001-cross taper switch to effexor to 225mg-2002-cross taper switch to Paxil to 80mg 2002-Lamotrigine titrated up to 200mg

2014-Luxox started after approx 2 months off all meds and increased to 225mg.Anafranil added stopped after 3 days

Jan 2015 started 20mg Paxil/50mg Lamotrigine.Lamotrigine increased slowly to 250mg and Paxil increased to 40mg after 4 months(relapse) then to 60mg (relapse)

Have you overcame covid in the past? There are several friends and family of mine that had it last year and are still having issues with taste and smell.

It could very well just be withdrawal, but I just thought your situation sounded familiar.

2008: March, Klonopin .5 mg to 1 mg

2009: Dec, CT Klonopin

2010: full year heavy alcohol use

2011: Jan - withdrawals start

2012: Apr- bad wave, start zoloft 50

2014 to 2020: Switch ADs

Sertraline 100mgs >Lexapro 20 mgs>Prozac 20 mgs >Lexapro 20

2021: Sertraline 25 mgs

2022: Mar. Cut dose down to 12.5

End of May, starting to crash physically/mentally.

The gagging thing sometimes randomly happens to me when my fight flight response is kicked up a few notches. It is a known problem for those with anxiety.

https://www.healthcentral.com/article/anxietyinduced-gagging-why-it-happens-how-to-stop-it

Since much of withdrawal is fight or flight in hyperdrive which of course is anxiety this is probably another withdrawal symptom.

I have a theory as to why this happens. One of the exercises you can do to strengthen your vagus nerve and your parasympathetic calming response is to stimulate your gag reflex. Activating the gag reflex activates your vagus nerve and helps calm things down and I've noticed that after it happens I'm much calmer for a while. Since during withdrawal we are in sympathetic overload I theorize that having this happen means that your body is trying to balance out your nervous system and it stimulating your gag reflex to activate the vagus nerve and the calming response. If you're gagging after eating or even while thinking about food your body knows that you need the calming response for digestion. So it may be an uncomfortable dysfunctional way that your body is trying to calm things down so that you can digest your food as well as attempting to balance out your nervous system. Here's an article on Vagus nerve exercises that includes stimulating the gag response.

https://connorwellnessclinic.com/blog/4-vagus-exercises-to-help-heal-your-gut/

I actually see this particular symptom as a sign that the body is trying to heal by stimulating your vagus nerve to strengthen it and Balance things out. This of course is just a theory but based on these two articles and what I know so far it does make sense.
