Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. The fact it is sparingly soluble means it has to be shaken before you take it and also stirred before you draw it up for the first time after emptying the cap. This avoids issues like crushing tablets and losing 10% of it or more to waste. 1 Dx: complex PTSD Discontinuation/taper history: sertraline, trazodone, prazosin, mirtazapine, diazepam Took 200mg quetiapine for 0.5 years and 150mg for 1.5 years until 01/2020. Even using a slow taper I'm going to have tabs leftover so ... but thanks. I'll probably just take the dry powder and wash it down with water rather than make a suspension unless there's a reason I shouldn't do it that way. I take 37.5mg split between 25mg (1/2 a tablet) at bedtime and 12.5mg (1/4 of a tablet) when I wake in the night at 3am. I am now wanting to begin my slow taper off and I know from experience with other ADs that I can only manage 10% every 3-4 weeks without having withdrawal - but if I stick to this, I don't suffer any withdrawal at all. I have only been able to have this 10% reduction success through using the liquid forms of medications available (eg. of Mirtazapine and Escitalapram) so on request last week my Psychiatrist prescribed me the liquid version of Trazodone, the "50mg per 5ml" dosage, which is available here in the UK. However I tried it one night, using a 1ml syringe and measuring 2.5ml for the 25mg bedtime dose and... WOW. It completely knocked me out, and all of the next day I felt HORRENDOUS. Much the same as you would if you took a new sedating AD at a high dose for the first time. Completely out of it the next day, dizzy etc. I've never experienced this problem when switching to a liquid version of an AD before - with both Mirtazapine and Escitalopram (and even a special of Sertraline that I once ordered) there was no discernable difference between the tablets and the liquid. I just wondered if there was anything "known" about the liquid version of Trazodone that would make it different? Unless I can come up with any better ideas, it looks like I'm going to have to go faster than 10% and cut the pills, which isn't ideal.... 2010 - 2017: 25mg Sertraline, with numerous failed attempts to come off Feb - May 2017: drug free woooooh 😁 May 2017 - Oct 2018: 50mg Sertraline, insomnia episode Oct 2018 - May 2019: 25mg Sertraline May 2019: Severe insomnia episode, hallucinating, suicide attempt, hospitalised June 2019: Mirtazapine 15mg and switched from Sertraline 25mg to Escitalopram 7.5mg July 2019-May 2020: Successfully tapering the Mirt at 10 every 3 weeks ever since without any major WD. Through taper had successfully reached 2.9mg of Mirtazapine and 5.8mg Escitalopram May 2020: Relapse of insomnia and subsequent extreme anxiety caused by entering perimenopause May-Dec 2020: Increased Mirtazapine back to 15mg, switched from Escitalopram back to Sertraline 50mg Jan 2021 - Dec 2022: slow tapered down Mirtazapine to 3mg and switch over to Trazodone 37.5mg Dec 29 2022: Hormonal fluctuation as part of perimenopause causing severe insomnia and anxiety, started using Diazepam between 2-4mg a day. Increased Trazodone to 75mg, however this caused even more anxiety and palpitations Jan 14 2022: Reduced Trazodone back to 37.5mg and instead increased Mirtazapine to 10.5mg Jan 23 2022: Experiencing bad side effects from increase of Mirtazapine, reduced back slightly to 9.3mg. Stabilised on 2mg Valium once an evening. March 2022: Stabilised on 2mg Valium, 37.5mg Trazodone, 50mg Sertraline.
