FeralCatman
This is probably the most hopeful video I have seen yet by two psychiatrists who help people taper off medications and what they have seen in their practice. They say even though sometimes it takes a long time the prognosis is really really good. The title of the video says benzos but in the video they talk about people coming off of all types of medication and pretty much everybody they see recovers even if it does take a long time. Mentor Catina7 Posted February 21 Mentor Share Posted February 21 (edited) Here is a very helpful meditation video that Chris Paige, a taper/withdrawal coach, made that is very comforting for people undergoing distress due to Akathisia and severe WD symptoms. Administrator KenA Posted February 29 Administrator Share Posted February 29 The following videos and links are posted courtesy of @FeralCatman! Thank you for your contributions! Here is a meditation and music video by Chris Paige that I found very helpful. He is a withdrawal coach and after being taken off of 1.5mg of Klonopin in 5 days he went into 3 years of acute akathesia. Obviously he survived and is now thriving. Here are links to the meditation and music video. Dr. Josef Witt Doering, MD who runs a De-prescribing clinic in Utah has a growing YouTube page with great short videos on pretty much every topic at SA. I think these may be helpful for people and easier to find information they need and require less work for an already stressed out brain. https://www.youtube.com/@taperclinic This video would be great for people new to the withdrawal community to see as it is one of the most hopeful ones I have found. Finally I have compiled a list of resources that I originally made for my therapist and other providers and family and friends that would be helpful for people. Many don't seem to know how many resources there are out there for people going through this. By posting this up front it gives people alternatives while waiting for SA to open up again. FeralCatman
One thing that would be nice to hear, at least for me, would be an acknowledgement of the harm done and an apology from psychiatry and big pharma. Now, I totally get that the day that happens will be the same day I see a cow jump over the moon and a flock of purple pigs will fly overhead. So, I would like to offer that apology to everyone that has been harmed and is suffering on behalf of psychiatry and big pharma. It's something we have all earned and deserve through our collective suffering. I am truly sorry for the suffering you have endured and continue to endure. I am sorry for the lost days, lost opportunities, lost relationships, and most importantly for lost time. I am sorry that healing takes so long and is so painful. I am sorry that all of the good intentions have caused so much damage. I am sorry for your not having been given an honest run down on the risks and downsides of the medications you were told were safe and effective. The system did not mean to hurt you but it's failure to acknowledge the harm done is just as painful as the actual harm done by the treatment. I am sorry for the failure to hear you. FeralCatman
A COMMON LINK BETWEEN HIKING AND WITHDRAWAL Years ago, when I started hiking I had many new skills to learn. I hike alone so needed to account for that for safety. It was a bit overwhelming as I had to learn about proper clothing, proper gear, survival, first aid, proper footwear, etc. and had to test everything out one by one. One of the main rules of hiking is to never expect to be rescued, always be prepared to rescue yourself. This is something that I apply to my everyday life. It was confusing and a bit daunting but I loved being out on the trail so I kept up with it. Then I started winter hiking. Again alone. This took a whole new set of skills and testing to get to the point at which I could do it safely and not end up being a news story. My last goal was to hike at night. Again alone. This involved an entirely different set of skills since you must use more of your other senses beyond eyesight to deal with that environment. Sounds become magnified at night so I had to learn what they all were and learn the difference between what was a potential threat and what was benign. It required mastering anxiety and fear of the unknown. In the end I learned to enjoy a hike day or night no matter the weather or time of year. Early in my night winter hiking learning curve I discovered what dew point temperature really means. It was late and dark and I was 2 miles out on the trail with 5 more miles to go. It had been warm that day and there had been a lot of melting and it was very humid. As I went along the temperature was dropping quickly. My shell garments had become damp. As the temperature dropped it hit the dew point temperature and suddenly the atmosphere around me flashed into fog. It was very dense and my headlamp just reflected right back at me. I could not see my hand in front of my face let alone the trail. It was like suddenly having a white hood over my head with my headlamp on and without the headlamp it was like a black hood. At that point I had a choice. Let fear get a hold of me and panic and start running around bumping into trees like a pin ball, going in circles, getting lost, and ending up on the news – or – take a deep breath, count to 10, calm down, and think things through. I remembered my firefighting training and wondered if getting below the fog would help me see the trail. I got down on hands and knees and sure enough I could see the trail. The spot I usually stopped to take a break and look at the stars and have a snack was less than half a mile up the trail. There were also good places to shelter if needed. So, I crawled up the trail slowly. After about a quarter of a mile the fog started to thin out and I made it the rest of the way to my resting point and within another half hour the fog was gone, the stars came out, and I enjoyed the rest of the hike that night having learned another valuable lesson. Check humidity, temperature range, and dew point before going out at night like that. In thinking about this the other day, I realized it is analogous to Tapering, Withdrawal, and PAWS. The process is the same. It is learning new skills and overcoming fear of the unknown. Stick with it and in the end the stars come out and you can get back to enjoying life. 1 Current Psychiatric Medications Paxil 10mg daily (a.m.) 2017 - Present Carbamazepine IR 190 mg twice daily (380mg Daily) 2011 - Present (Currently Tapering) Past Psychiatric Medications From 1994 to August 2021 Seroquel (in Recovery since August 2021 final dose 6.25mg), Depakote, Lithium, Risperidone, Xanax, Lamotrigene, Olanzapine, Lorazepam, Welbutrin, Trazodone, Oxazepam, Gabapentin, Abilify, Topiramate, Prazosin, Ambien (See Attached Spreadsheet And Seroquel Tapering And WIthdrawal Summary) Current Non Psychiatric Medications - Levothyroxine 88mcg (a.m.)-Vitamin D3 1000 IU (p.m.)-Fexofenadine 180 mg twice daily -Clonidine 0.1 mg (p.m.)-Azelastine Nasal Spray Other - Fish Oil Twice Daily-Multi-Vitamin (a.m.)-Vitamin C 1000mg Daily (a.m.)-Saline Nasal Spray-Salsalate 750mg twice daily PRN, Diclofenac Gel on affected joint PRN-Magnesium Citrate 250mg twice daily, Betaine HCL & Digestine Enzymes With Meals Quitting Seroquel_A Vacation In Hell_Redacted.pdf Other Documents https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/26099-feralcatman-recovering-from-seroquel/?do=findComment&comment=633907
