giancarlo: Can prolonged use of antidepressants for 50 years cause an inexplicable disorder if all the tests are in order?

And I've been using antidepressants for about 50 years. The first 30 tricyclic years. The last 20 years SSRI (citalopram) for a few years at full dosage and for about 10 years 4 drops a day + 1/4 of mirtazapine in the evening to sleep. For about 5 years now I have had a heat in my head that can last all day and only 2 mg of EN makes it go away. Could this be due to the many years of antidepressants taken? Thank you

I have suffered from depression for about 50 years and have used tricycle-protiadien and SSRI-citalopram antidepressants for 50 years.

From 01/02/74 until 04/05 2004 PROTIADEN 75 mg\die. From 5/4/2004 Citalopram 40 mg for 2 years. After 2 years, 4 drops of Citalopram to date.

Side effects are certainly possible from long-term AD use.

I noticed I was developing side effects after ~30 years of SSRI use that I did not like. As I have gradually reduced my dose, I've noticed those side effects have gone.

Hi @giancarlo

I've moved your new post back to your own thread. Please keep all questions relating to yourself here.

I can see you have attached a document to your drug signature; however, I am not comfortable clicking on it. Can you please copy and paste the information from the document straight into your signature box?

This link should be of value to you:

Here are a few other links for you to read:

Why taper by 10% of my dosage? The reductions should get smaller and smaller each month, for example: 10mg, 9mg, 8.1mg, 7.3mg etc. Importantly, if you develop unpleasant side effects from tapering, halt the taper, give yourself time to settle, and once stable, taper more slowly and by smaller amounts moving forward.

We don't suggest many supplements, but two that many of us find helpful are magnesium and omega-3 fish oil. Here are the links for info about those. Add one at a time and start with a low dose to see how it affects you.

Magnesium

Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil)

Avoid alcohol.

Don't change the manufacturer of your AD.
