compsports Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 At one of the hotels I stayed at when I was away, there was a mental health mobile unit in the parking lot. It was the first time I had ever seen one and frankly, I found it creepy. Anybody else seen one and if so, what is their purpose? I think we all know the answer to that but what is the party line? I couldn't figure out why it was there except I did notice a few homeless people on the towpath behind the hotel. I have no clue if that is the reason or not. A friend I met nearby joked that the reason it was there was for the stressed out business travelers:) CS PS - Mods, feel free to move if post isn't in the right place Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010 Started taper of Adderall, Wellbutrin XL, Remeron, and Doxepin in 2006 Finished taper on June 10, 2010 Temazepam on a PRN basis approximately twice a month - 2014 to 2016 Beginning in 2017 - Consumption increased to about two times per week April 2017 - Increased to taking it full time for insomnia

Hi Baxter, If I had been thinking the next morning after I noticed it while riding a shuttlebus, I would have walked over to check it out. But I was exhausted from lack of sleep. Then again, maybe that was a good thing:) as they would have tried to pawn a drug on me. Hmm, I am gong to have to investigate this as I am quite curious. Healing Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 A mobile mental health unit is a great public resource. The city can send out trained mental health professionals to deal with someone in crisis -- either purely psychological, or, often, street drug-related. This is much preferable to sending out a police car -- any given police officer may or may not be a calming person; the mere sight of a uniform can escalate someone in crisis. The mental health professionals can sometimes stabilize the person in situ or transport them to a hospital or call the police if absolutely necessary. Now, the public mental health system in most cities is overly reliant on psychotropic medication, that's for sure. 1996-97 - Paxil x 9 months, tapered, suffered 8 months withdrawal but didn't know it was withdrawal, so... 1998-2001 - Zoloft, tapered, again unwittingly went into withdrawal, so... 2002-03 - Paxil x 20 months, developed severe headaches, so... compsports Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Hi Baxter and Healing, I found the answer and Healing, you're right, this looks like a good thing as this was in your area. http://mentalhealthmobile.com/2011/05/10/san-francisco-or-bust/ http://www.sunherald.com/2011/05/16/3113457/mental-health-mobile-rolls-across.html It looks like it is in response to budget cuts in mental health in California. I am sensing these were created in other states with similar situations. As an aside, sorry I didn't have much time there or otherwise, I would have tried to see about getting together with some bay area folks. I was mostly up north of SF. Healing Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 While they're at it, they could collect the dead, and the not-dead-from-the-plague guy could say, "I'm not dead yet!"
