I am on Remeron 15mg and librium 10 mg 4 x daily since December when I was detoxed off 6mg daily prescribed Ativan, taken for 30 years in just 10 days! Now, I need to get off both these drugs but am wondering if Remeron is the same as the other AD in that I should taper not ct it and do it before tapering the librium any more? My present Dr told me I could ct Remeron. :-/

Im CONFUSED,feeling ill from?? and gaining weight daily from Remeron :-(

Thank you!

My understanding is yes....you should go off Remeron first, and by slow taper. Thankfully the side effects are usually dose-related, so hopefully they will resolve before you are completely off the drug. You can search for Remeron in the tapering section. Sadly, you have too many travel companions on the Remeron withdrawal path. Because you have been through benzo withdrawal extra caution is advisable. Welcome aboard!

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Original drug was sertraline/Zoloft, switched to Prozac in 2007.
Tapering from 5mls liquid prozac since Feb 2008, got down to 0.85ml 23/09/2012, reinstated back to 1ml(4mg) 07/11/2012, didn't appear to work, upped to 1.05ml 17/11/2012, back down to 1ml 12/12/2012 didn't work, up to 1.30ml 16/3/2013 didn't work, bumped up to 2ml (8mg) 4/4/2013 didn't work, in July 2013 I reinstated Sertraline (Zoloft) 50mg, feeling better now.

A few months down the line I switched to 5ml liquid Prozac and tapered down to a compromise dose of 3ml liquid Prozac and have stayed there ever since, no withdrawals and no emotional blunting/loss of libido.

I have been on Remeron 15 mg daily for 2 years. My Dr thinks I am possibly having adverse reaction to it...chest pain shortness of breath especially on exertion in the slightest.I am also holding on a taper off value am at 16 mg daily. He wants to put me on another AD Lexapro while coming off Remer on as he thinks I "need"one. I want to just come off the Remeron but how do I do it asap and still be safe?

Thank you!!!

Hi Pinkvanilla, welcome to SA. I moved your post to the introductions forum, this is your thread and here for

you to add to whenever you like.

I think you are right to avoid starting another AD.  You can get off remeron

safely by tapering. I know that you are having  side effects but they tend to be dose related and lessen as

the dose lowers.  We recommend a 10% reduction with 4 weeks between cuts to give the nervous system

time to adjust to the lower level of the drug.  Your doctor will be thinking that you will relapse when you stop

the remeron and your original depression will return but it has now been proved that it is not the case.

People suffer from withdrawal and not relapse, and a slow taper avoids this.

Here is the topic for tapering remeron  http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/5301-tips-for-tapering-off-remeron-mirtazapine/

It would be great if you could put your medication history in your signature strip, here is how to do that.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

I found that you have an existing intro thread so have merged them so that they are in one

place. If you click on your profile, then topics, you can find your old threads when you have been away

for a while.  :)
