angie007 Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Stan so sorry for your suffering, So this applies more to long term users does it???? OH JOY, something else to look forward to, NOT. Began taking 30mg Seroxat on 15th Jan 1997 for grief issues. Remained at that dosage until Dec 05, did doctor ct, akathesia set in along with being non functional and overly emotional, brain fog. Doctor prescribed prozac, propranelol and diazeapam to counteract side effects, and told me to ct those 3 after 2.5/3 months use, induced wd seizure on 2nd day after ct. Was reinstated on seroxat 20mg in april 06, remained at that dose until Nov 07 and began a very slow taper lasting 56 months, finally DRUG FREE on 11th may 2011.
angie007 Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I do however agree that wd is a state of vulnerability physically and psychologically, and would like to see these testimonies that say taking paxil long term " diminish" the future life of the addict, if you would be good enough to post, I, along with others here would be very grateful. stan Posted May 30, 2011 Author Posted May 30, 2011 hi Angie, i have no post, but i have read and re-read all testimonies long termer since the beginning of my withdrawal and this are my conclusions for me it is not to fear people, i want the truth and try to say the truth, the truth is i have all this today, it is concrete for me i will not collect names, texts, to prove, i say something, prove with me SUR brings the texts from clinics and other specialists what i have said here is not a scoop, we can see this in our beginner forum, i am not the alone long-termer here (there is a big bag of long-termer here); it is the growing of the forum you say would like to see these testimonies that say taking paxil long term " diminish" the future life of the addict,i say the quality of life and not the future life, but maybe one day i will say it diminish life, but today i do not say this, will thinking about i would be so happy to be wrong for anxiety 12 years paxil - cold turkey 1,5 month - switch celexa 1 year taper; total 13 years on brain meds 67 years old - 9 years med free in protracted withdrawal rigidity standing and walking, dryness gougerot-szoegren, sleep deteriorate, function as have a lack of nerves, improving have been very little
Administrator Altostrata Posted May 30, 2011 Administrator Posted May 30, 2011 Oddly, I've had very few respiratory ailments since withdrawal. I've only had a couple of colds in 7 years, and maybe flu once. I was unusually susceptible to migraines for a few years, triggered by bright light, but that seems to have gone away. I did develop eyelid irritation -- itchy, burning eyelids and more eyelid sand. I had this for maybe a year or two. I was afraid it was a chronic condition, but it's cleared up with more sleep. I had loose bowels since withdrawal in 2004 until perhaps 6 months ago. My bowel movement gradually started to get more normal more consistently. Now I have the diarrhea-like bowel movements only rarely. The frequent night-time urination also seems to have become less frequent. A lot of these symptoms improved with more sleep. Administrator Altostrata Posted May 30, 2011 Administrator Posted May 30, 2011 I need to add a correction to the above: When my sleep started to deteriorate under stress in year 4 of withdrawal, I did have respiratory symptoms. I coughed and wheezed all the time, and had the chills. This doesn't seem to be an infection, though. When I started sleeping a bit better, the symptoms went away. When I had a relapse of the sleep disorder, they came back, then went away again when my sleep improved a little. This is not medical advice. stan Posted May 30, 2011 Author Posted May 30, 2011 thanks for your concrete explanations,SUR, it gives me hope that all will not stay with me until my end of life what is curious is that at 26 months i am very worse physically, instead to be better, new heavy problem appear sleep with nocturia is already a big problem, but add a mouth dry and eyes (this can be bearable)but the mouth agravates sleep possibility for anxiety 12 years paxil - cold turkey 1,5 month - switch celexa 1 year taper; total 13 years on brain meds 67 years old - 9 years med free in protracted withdrawal rigidity standing and walking, dryness gougerot-szoegren, sleep deteriorate, function as have a lack of nerves, improving have been very little
Administrator Altostrata Posted May 30, 2011 Administrator Posted May 30, 2011 stan -- I can understand restricting water in the evening. Perhaps this is responsible for the dry mouth? If so, suggest drinking a great deal more water earlier in the day. This may help dry eyes also. This is not medical advice. angie007 Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Hi Stan, Im sorry if you misunderstood my post to you, i was not asking you to prove what you were saying, by asking you to post links if you had them, i would never discredit what you have found at all. I know you are very knowledgeable about wd my friend, as you have suported me in many ways, and on many occassions, and i am very grateful for that. I can understand what you are saying and i can also understand your thinking along those lines, and no, your right, you are not the only long term user of paxil here, i am one of the others too, and i cant help but be afraid of not only my future, but the future of all of us, and as i am newly off paxil, i am fearing the fear right now. I read this post this morning, and since reading, i have gone online looking for evidence of your suggestion, and frankly, what i find, scares me badly. So much damage created by these drugs, its untrue. Now, although im scared, i also know that the mind is a very powerful organ, and i firmly believe that the human body has the ability to heal eventually, wether it can heal 100% perfect i dont know, but i am sure that we can look forward to 80-85% recovery - GOD willing, and i would be happy to settle for that right now - all i pray is that all of us will be able to function and partake in a normal life after the onslaught of paxil wd. Just one last bit of good news i would like to share with you if thats ok, going back about 3yrs ago now, on the other site, i befriended someone from australia who was coming down off Aropax ( paxil), she had used this drug for 14yrs, as had i, and we tapered together, although she was ahead of me, she called me through skype today ( completely unexpected) she is 2/5yrs off now, and although she did have many awful psychological problems during wd, she now declares herself 100% recovered, with no residual issues at all. THANK GOD, i was so happy to hear that, it gave me so much hope and determination, i hope we can all be as lucky as she is. I hope, although you have had a rough ride i know, will take some comfort from that, because at 25months she was still pretty much in the thick of wd, so you see, the mind and body can heal eventually. I will pray that it can happen for us too. Sur, im drumming up stories again lol, she is prepared to write a recovery story for us too, with your permission of course, and NO, she doesnt frequent the opposition lol, i will wait to hear from you. Administrator Altostrata Posted May 30, 2011 Administrator Posted May 30, 2011 For what it's worth, camomile tea and green tea are both diuretics (they make you pee). Hopeful Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I did develop eyelid irritation -- itchy, burning eyelids.. I had this symptom in early w/d...I had totally forgotten about it until I read this post. It did go away completely for me too. Stan, just wanted to mention that at the two year mark I was still in very very bad shape...as a matter of fact the Summer and Fall of 2007 I had a couple of one month periods where I was afraid to leave the house. I had never heard of agoraphobia prior to ssri w/d. This was even after around the 19 month timeframe where I thought things had been getting better. Began Paxil 10/97* Paxil free 10/16/04 (tapered over 2.5 months) Severe withdrawal 12/04 started Lexapro due to Paxil w/d symptoms (tapered over 4 months) Lexapro free 8/2/05 2 1/2 year severe protracted withdrawal Doing well now with a few residual symptoms

Hi Angie......thank you for posted this. If I may ask a quick question? I'm unclear as to the time-frame where this person recovered. You typed 2/5. Did you mean 2 years and 5 months before she recovered?I've just had the most horrible month (so unexpected at this stage) although I was under some regular on-going stress which certainly has high-jacked my CNS but I really thought I'd be able to handle stress a bit better at this point. In any case, thanks for sharing this and I would appreciate a clarification when you get a chance.Punar To Face My Trials with "The Grace of a Woman Rather Than the Grief of a Child". As well, I truly understand the disappointment you are feeling at this time. I myself am having to psychologically readjust to accepting that I must hang on for 6 more months. It's very discouraging however, I keep telling myself that I've come this far......6 more months can make a world of difference. Hopeful Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Hi Pun, Yes, I was in very bad shape (pretty much non functioning...my husband had to work from home for two years)unil the 2 1/2 year mark. At that point I could function again and things started to improve in a more linear fashion...it's been a long haul. I did have a period at about 18-19 months where I thought I was turning the corner, but it got worse again before it got better. But, I did get better and always felt I was one of the worse cases I read about. I still have a few minor issues I call "residual" mainly muscle tension and minor anxiety, but nothing like those early years. I can relate but I'm so glad to hear of your improvements. Very happy for you! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to respond and to relay a few critical details. This is reassuring and helpful. I've read so many recovery stories over the years, witnessed so many WD journey's in the forums and thus, I realize, on a logical level, how things can go, but every once in a while it helps to receive direct feedback as opposed to being a analytical spectator, observing the process and journey of others. I've been through WD events before but this is the last of them all and it has been somewhat different in many aspects, not to mention, I'm becoming depleted and my mind and emotions are so tired of the daily mental self-discipline, self-emotional regulation etc etc. (lol). It is really, and I mean really helpful to read your response! I do know what you mean re; the linear stage. At one point in xanax WD my symptoms started to drop off rapidly and recovery occurred at a faster rate but I was doing far better at the 2 year mark post xanax tolerance C/T WD than what I'm doing during this tolerance WD at the 2 year mark, despite the fact that I did taper (although a rapid like taper). Thank you so much for the "Hopeful" message. Stan, so sorry if I highjacked your thread. Continued and Complete Recovery to You Stan and Healing! angie007 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Hi Pun, Clarification for you as regards my friend, She took Aropax for 14yrs, and came off in 2009, she slow tapered over 2 years from 30mg. She phoned me at xmas 2010/11, to tell me that she was doing better, she reckoned about 70% at that stage, but she had just hit a bad wave, which had really had an impact mentally and physically. The next time we spoke was in early march, and again she was in another wave, and asked for suppport, i , myself wasnt brilliant, as i was down to the very tiniest dose, and struggling badly with akathesia and bad anxiety, she explained aty that stage that she felt like she wss back in the " throes of early wd"and she was almost inconsolable to have taken a backward turn. Anyway, down to these last 2 bad waves ahe had had, she had done some researc herself, and informed me that she didnt think that wd was to blame for what she was going through T THAT STAGE, AND SAID THAT SHE FELT SHE HD " MERCURY POISONING". If you google it, you will see the symptoms are very similar to what we experience in wd, oddly enough. She then asked me if i could make her an appointment to see an holistic dentist with a view to having this work done, wich i did. In spite of her sym[ptoms which were pretty severe at that stage, she flew in from australia to london uk where she had her amalgam fillings removed and replaced 3 weeks ago, her husband had his done too. i have to admit i was sceptical of this making any difference to be honest!!! Then i get a skype call which was totally unexpected a week later, where she declares that having this work done completed her recovery 100$. while in wd, she suffered massive crops of boils, and i mean HUGE boils, which she tells me have gone completely - wether they were from wd or feom mercury i have no idea, but they have disappeared. i have contacted her today, and it is with her consent that i tell you this much, and she will be writing her complete story here within the next week or so. Pun ;= she is now 100% fully recovered with no residual issues and it took 2/and a half yrs. hope that clarifies for you. i passed on in advance all the good wishes from this site as i know how much hope a recovery story brings to us all. Sur, with this subject in mind, i think i may have read somewhere about heavy metal toxicity after ad wd, just wondered if you had any information to share here??? Food for thought guys???? Yet another story that provides hope....It makes it easier to hang on for 6 more months. As for the mercury question. Well, it could be that she was going to turn the recovery corner anyway and may have been fine without removing her fillings since, so many people turn the corner at the 2 1/2 year to 3 year mark. So, it's hard to say. BTW, I'm not judging her assessment. Rather, just adding another possibility. BTW, good to see you are med-free!! There's no going back now and you've survived so many years. There is now promise in your future! Again, congrats on ditching the last bit of drug and thank you again for getting back to me and posting a response.
