compsports
The study caught my attention since nocturia is a prominent symptom of sleep apnea and many people who have the disorder were misdiagnosed as having depression.http://www.hcplive.com/articles/Depress ... Psychiatryhttp://www.jurology.com/article/S0022-5 ... 8/abstractUnfortunately, the abstract doesn't give much information and you have to pay for access to the full article. But I did email one of the authors, Dr. Breyer and suggested that if sleep apnea wasn't considered in the study, they might want to set up something similar in the future to see if perhaps the folks they think have depression really have sleep apnea. If anyone wants to email him, here is the link for doing so:http://urology.ucsf.edu/people/benjamin-n-breyer49erPS - In the first link, this exert made me really angry: Practicing clinicians should consider administering a brief self-administered scale to assess for depression in patients with nocturia," the authors write. Several authors disclosed financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry.- Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010 Started taper of Adderall, Wellbutrin XL, Remeron, and Doxepin in 2006 Finished taper on June 10, 2010 Temazepam on a PRN basis approximately twice a month - 2014 to 2016 Beginning in 2017 - Consumption increased to about two times per week April 2017 - Increased to taking it full time for insomnia
Administrator Altostrata Posted September 19, 2013 Administrator Share Posted September 19, 2013 It seems to me that if people have fragmented sleep because they need to get up and urinate frequently at night, that might affect their mood. I wish I could bonk every doctor on the head who suspects physical symptoms are "depression." This is not medical advice. Great point Alto. The person doesn't necessarily have to have sleep apnea for that to occur if getting up to frequently urinate is effecting sleep. Yeah, it does get old that doctors blame all physical conditions on depression. At this rate, they will blame hangnails on it.
