Cookson
Am interested In anyone's experience of speed/severity of their recovery from anti depressants correlating to their blood related family who also took them. So was anyone's speed/severity of withdrawal similar as their family relatives who also took them? 2013-July 1st Citalopram 20mg () 2013-August 19th ended Citalopram cold turkey med free. ladybug
I remember when I was little hearing my mother talk about how she had participated in a clinical trial for an antidepressant and how it had screwed her up for years afterward. I should have taken it as a sign. Because of that she was against me starting Paxil, but I was a couple a months away from my 18th birthday anyway and I told her I would do it with or without her permission. What an idiot I was. I am surely paying the price for it now. Hands down the biggest mistake of my life. I am doing the slowest taper of anyone on any forum and I am still having a hard time. Bad genetics? Who knows. There is no one else in my immediate family, but I have had aunts and cousins who have taken AD's for a short time and were able to get off without a problem. a.k.a JMarie Paxil since Mar.1998 2006-2007:40-20mg 2009: 20mg to 14mg 2010: 14mg to 10.5mg 2011: 10.5 to 7.6mg 2012: 7.5 to 6.8mg 2013: 6.7-6.3mg 2014: 6.2mg-5.8mg 2015: 5.7 to 5.15mg 2016: 5.1-4.6mg 1/19/17: 4.5mg 3/17/17: 4.4mg 6/15/17: 4.35mg 8/10/17: 4.3mg 1/29/18: 4.1mg 5/07/18: 4.0mg 7/31/18: 3.9mg
Administrator Altostrata Posted September 27, 2013 Administrator Share Posted September 27, 2013 No doubt the variability in the way drugs affect people is genetically determined. But there are so many genetic and environmental influences, any individual's response cannot be determined. Yes, I would think your mother might have been very sensitive to SSRIs, ladybug. It's possible you inherited this tendency. This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner. It's possible you inherited this tendency. I believe she participated in this study in the 70's so I'm not sure if they were testing out SSRI's at that time. I should note that I had no problems starting Paxil, and I started right away at 20mg. I believe I am one of those "lucky" people whose brain adapted to the drug strongly and right away. I remember having strong WD symptoms after missing two doses only a couple months after starting. a.k.a JMarie Paxil since Mar.1998 2006-2007:40-20mg 2009: 20mg to 14mg 2010: 14mg to 10.5mg 2011: 10.5 to 7.6mg 2012: 7.5 to 6.8mg 2013: 6.7-6.3mg 2014: 6.2mg-5.8mg 2015: 5.7 to 5.15mg 2016: 5.1-4.6mg 1/19/17: 4.5mg 3/17/17: 4.4mg 6/15/17: 4.35mg 8/10/17: 4.3mg 1/29/18: 4.1mg 5/07/18: 4.0mg 7/31/18: 3.9mg
Cookson
It does look like their could be a possible correlation between you ladybug and your mothers sensitivity with ssri's. Was your mother subsidised in the clinical trial? Not being administered commercially as that time was it considered to be 'safe' How did she feel about taking the drug? The optimist in me likes to think that my father's 2 year period of taking citalopram-and his subsequent cold turkey withdrawal with full recovery In a matter of weeks be reflected in me in his success of a quick recovery. 2013-July 1st Citalopram 20mg () 2013-August 19th ended Citalopram cold turkey med free. ladybug
Ok, I just talked to my mom and apparently I was wrong. She says she participated in a clinical trial for an AD in the mid 80's (so it WAS most likely a SSRI) for a month and then it was over. She says she didn't have any problems from it, just that it didn't do anything for her. She may have been on the placebo, I don't know if they tell you that when the trial is over or not. I don't know why I remember her saying she had problems from it while I was growing up, but I do. Well, it just goes to show you memory isn't very reliable. Incidentally, my mother has a cousin who goes off and on Paxil EVERY YEAR! She has done this for several years with no problem. Yet here I am unable to get off this poison even after tapering for 6 years. What a world. a.k.a JMarie Paxil since Mar.1998 2006-2007:40-20mg 2009: 20mg to 14mg 2010: 14mg to 10.5mg 2011: 10.5 to 7.6mg 2012: 7.5 to 6.8mg 2013: 6.7-6.3mg 2014: 6.2mg-5.8mg 2015: 5.7 to 5.15mg 2016: 5.1-4.6mg 1/19/17: 4.5mg 3/17/17: 4.4mg 6/15/17: 4.35mg 8/10/17: 4.3mg 1/29/18: 4.1mg 5/07/18: 4.0mg 7/31/18: 3.9mg
Administrator Altostrata Posted October 1, 2013 Administrator Share Posted October 1, 2013 None of this is predictive. You yourself can have gone on and off psychiatric drugs many times before with no problem, then finally have great difficulty in going off the last one. This is not medical advice. Cookson
Oh dear :/ Very much what I'm reading and experiencing myself contradicts my original hypothesis of their being a genetic correlation for WD symptoms. I find it appalling and equally frightening how little research has be done on the true mechanisms of action of these drugs-and the effect they have on ourselves. We have unknowingly volunteered ourselves into a world wide experiment and we are all the test subject participants. Far more reliable and ethical then any of big pharms clinical trials. And I'm not even receiving compensation for my ailments! 2013-July 1st Citalopram 20mg () 2013-August 19th ended Citalopram cold turkey med free.
