Rdamron Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) I am starting my journey off Cymbalta tomorrow. I went to the dr today and he is dropping me from 60mg to 30mg. I tried this last summer, but couldn't deal with the withdrawls. This time he is giving me Ativan for the withdrawl symptoms. Has anyone else tried this? Administrator Karma Posted September 28, 2013 Administrator Posted September 28, 2013 Hi Rdamron, Welcome to the community. I moved your post to introductions because your question is really more about your situation than it is about overall tapering. Please use this thread to post your questions and updates. Your doctor has recommended a 50% taper and we don't recommend tapering that quickly. Ativan may help with the anxiety, but the problem is that you will then have to taper off of Ativan. You might also have other symptoms that Ativan cannot help with. Ativan is a benzodiazepine and they are addictive. Here is our topic on tapering Cymbalta: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/283-tapering-off-cymbalta-duloxetine/. Some folks have been successful in opening the capsules and counting out a number of beads to reduce the dosage on a more gradual basis. We recommend that you start with no more than a 10% dosage reduction and then monitor your symptoms to see if you can go more quickly or need to go more slowly. When you get a chance, please add your withdrawal history to your signature. Administrator Altostrata Posted September 28, 2013 Administrator Posted September 28, 2013 Welcome, Rdamron. Tapering slowly is preferable to taking a benzo for withdrawal symptoms. Try not to take a benzo at all -- they have serious side effects and, as Karma said, can incur dependency. Please read the topic on tapering Cymbalta. This is not medical advice. Angelique76 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hi Rdamron, any luck with tapering? I've just posted an intro that may help. Good luck :-) http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/5096-tapering-off-cymbalta-my-positive-experience/#entry64945 Currently tapering off Cymbalta 30mg. Adding 4 to 6 x 1000mg Omega3 Flax Oil Capsules per day, 2 to 3 litres of water and regular exercise (cycle/walk/yoga). Have been on and off medication and in therapy for the past 10 years to deal with my inability to understand and react appropriately to "life" and other people. I am currently in the process of removing myself from this stressful city based corporate life and head out to a relaxed paced life in a more tranquil setting (Daintree, Far North QLD, Australia). I hope one day to work with animals in a wildlife park or in the field of marine life conservation
