It would be very helpful if you'd put your drug history in your signature (directions here: How To Add Your Drug History To Your Signature) and tell us more about yourself.

When did you start on this new medication and what dose are you on?

Reboxetine (Edronax) is not approved for use in the US.  Its actually not very effective as a medication, but as with all psychiatric medications, would need to be tapered when you stop taking it.

Here is a link with some information about it:

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Hi Doref, they really should know but always seem to blame return of illness for withdrawal!

My psychiatrist did tell me it was difficult to stop and would need tapering but didn't tell me HOW

difficult or that it would take years rather than weeks. They all need educating!

These drugs need a long slow taper to avoid the withdrawal nightmare.  :(

My take on it is that they believe it is a return to the symptoms that we were put on meds for.  Pharmacists believe that as well.  I had a pharmacist tell me he never had a patient/customer complain about getting off Paxil...

Paxil 1997-2004

Crossed over to Lexapro Paxil not available

at Pharmacies GSK halted deliveries

Lexapro 40mgs

Lexapro taper (2years)

Imipramine

Imipramine and Celexa

Now Nefazadone/Imipramine 50mgs. each

45mgs. Serzone  50mgs. Imipramine

Hi Doref.  I am in Australia, and was put on Edronax / Reboxetine.  You can find more in my introduction.

Supposedly, SNRI's have "more tolerable side effect profile," however, Effexor is one, and it has one of the most wicked withdrawal effects of any of them.  Read any Effexor thread to see what you might be in for.  They are common here.

I am down to 75% of my Reboxetine, and am doing well, but I am fortunate, have never been over medicated, hospitalized or otherwise tortured in the name of "mental illness."

But I just wanted to write in here to let you know:  you are not alone.

Is Edronax the only drug you are on?  Please write about how you came to be medicated, and how you came to decide to try and get off?  The writing process is helpful, you learn a lot about yourself as you do it.  I will try and check in to learn about your journey, and please feel free to follow mine.

I do know this, Altostrata informed me of scandals regarding Edronax / Reboxetine, here:  http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/guest-blog/2010/11/30/the-antidepressant-reboxetine-a-headdesk-moment-in-science/

I was shocked to read that, since I was led to believe by my psychiatrist that it was a "low profile" sort of medicine.  She did warn me that if I took too much, it could flip me into mania, so I was happy to stop at a 1/2 dose of just 4 mg, max.  I'm now on just 3, and debating whether to leave it there awhile, or try another decrease.

The more you participate, the more you will gain from this forum.  There are really incredible people in here.  Some of your questions, you may wish to research yourself.  There is a book by Robert Whitaker called "Mad In America" and another called "Anatomy of an Epidemic" which explain how the money is made from these drugs.  Some of it anyway.

Go well.

Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

The tedious thread (my intro):  JanCarol ☼ Reboxetine first, then Lithium

The happy thread (my success story):  JanCarol - Undiagnosed  Off all bipolar drugs
