Fauzi J:  I have had a liver transplant and I must take  magnesium daily because my transplant drug: prograf causes a magnesium deficiency.  I was prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain in a slipped disk.  I read that gabapentin causes a magnesium deficiency.  My question is this true?  If it is then how can it be safe for someone like me who must take at least 800 mgs. daily. I am also worried about the withdrawl effects on someone like me. I was prescribed 100mg 2xs daily.

Welcome, brigidlee.

Yes, if you take gabapentin regularly, you may have difficulty stopping it. How long have you been taking it?

See this topic for tapering gabapentin http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/2309-tips-on-tapering-neurontin-gabapentin/

Whether gabapentin causes a magnesium deficiency is a question for Dr. Google. Please let us know what you find out. Also, you may wish to educate your doctor if he or she has prescribed it without considering its impact on your transplant situation.
