Polyps and sinisitus

I've never had these issues before? Can they be related to withdrawel?

Someone mentioned steroid spray for the polyps but hesitant to see my doc at the moment. Have put up with it for a while but now it's effecting the little sleep I manage to get.

Anybody suffered with this?

Hi Muddles,

In the US, nasacort is now OTC.   Might want to see if this is true in your neck of the woods.

If not, any reason why you are hesitant to see the doctor since in my opinion, trying steroid spray would be a very reasonable option?

I have never had nasal polyps but decided to try nasal steroids to see if it would help with my chronic sinus congestion.    Too soon to tell since it takes a couple of weeks for the treatment to start kicking in.

Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010

Thank you.

Will look into the spray. The sinisitus has calmed down for now (my gums still hurt though).

The polyps haven't shrunk yet though so unfortunately will probably suffer some more until they go.

(I'm not sure if they do)?

Hate going to the docs.

Let me know how you get on with the spray.

Steroid sprays are usually the first option to try for shrinking polyps.   But they don't always work and then surgery is the next thing to try if they are adversely effecting you.  Hopefully, it won't come to that point.

It seems it is starting to help which I initially attributed to a placebo effect.   But then I remembered when I tried to put my nasal pillow mask back on after my usual wakeup, I didn't feel as much discomfort as I normally do.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get back to sleep which is a whole other post but hopefully, based on my experience, you will get quick relief.

Don't fancy surgery. Will definitely look into steroid spray. Just scared to use anything at the moment.

Thank you.

Do you ever wake up gasping for air? Or bubbling sound in the throat?

I have this a lot lately. Could it be linked to polyps/sinisitus maybe?

A few times when I didn't use my machine, I felt myself gasping for air.   I know you are hesitant to see a doctor but you might also ask about being screened for sleep apnea since gasping for air is a sign of this condition.

Also, many people with sleep apnea have sinus conditions so that is another reason for my suggestion.

Can these drugs cause sleep apnea? I never had sinus or sleep problems prior to mirtazapine.

Hi Muddles,

I believe they can although to be honest, I haven't seen hard evidence of that.

Mirtazapine messes up REM sleep - so yeah, say no more.

And that was one of the drugs I was on.   So with my strong family history of sleep apnea, I didn't stand a chance of avoiding the disorder.

By the way, the Mirtazapine was tested several years as a possible cure for apnea.  They found no proof it was effective.

It was horrific and insomnia seemed to get worse which may have been due to the undiagnosed apnea.   I had to taper at 5% of current dose.

  • 2 months later...

I am back on a steroid nasal spray... yet again.

I have the gurgling in my throat and chest when I wake up. I think this is something else tho I am not sure.

What I have found is any sort of steroid and I can kiss my sleep goodbye.  So I only take it first thing in the morning same for the puffers for breathing... I only use the orange once ..blue cause me to shake like a leaf in the wind. Orange only if desperate which sadly is all the time lately and only in the mornings  not sure it would mess with sleep but I am not chancing it.

I am super sensitive to any sort of steroid drug at this point still and since it has been 6 years I think I am stuck with this one.  In the past before Ad type drugs I had a back bacterial pneumonia I took steroid pills then I would not dream of taking them now with my new hypersensitive body.

These are some of the long term effects changes .. I need steroids and i can't tolerate steroids... I am sure there is a logical reason... just not thinking well ha maybe it is the steroid spray...seriously I feel a nasal spray a lot... it buzzes my head things go fast I can't quite think right.

 peace all..

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.
