More Americans Giving Up on the American Dream

Recommended Posts

Just found this great broadcast from NPR. It really hits white heat at 6:43 when the callers my age call in and speak of the sense of betrayal they feel over what their parents told them that isn't necessarily true (that is, work hard, be a good person, get good grades, get work experience, and things will be fine). It feels great (and a little surreal) to finally hear people my age having their voices FINALLY heard in the mass media. These days, with rampant corruption, the all-out evil of corporations and the painful economy, it's easy to think, "why bother being a good person? No one gets ahead being good," so it's really heartening to hear real, stand-up Americans who are fighting the good fight even if they continue to take it on the chin. I really think this piece will resonate with everyone. Give it a listen!
