Laura1981 Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Hi all, I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so it goes in "Off topic" for now. I managed to pull withdrawal statistics from the European database of adverse events. Pictures attached. What surprised me was: - There were several fatalities logged under withdrawal syndrome - Reported numbers were very low. Report your reactions my dear friends!!! Cheers, Laura PS: The left image is Fluoxetine and the right is Sertraline Feb 2015 Took venlafaxine for 5 days only... experienced withdrawal that made me completely non-functional Mar 2015 took under 1mg of Sertraline for 10 days in an attempt to combat Venlafaxine withdrawal. Got adverse reactions. After stopping Sertraline, withdrawal got much worse. New, horrific symptoms. June 2015 Still non-functional but slowly getting better. Still brain zaps, migraines, sweating, heart racing, depression, crying spells September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating. Laura1981 Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Wow, this database is interesting. AppleOfSodom Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Isn't it possible to display a banner on top of the forum to make sure everyone reports their side effects?I don't want to blame the victim but we're a very passive community. Laura1981 Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 That would be amazing. One of the moderators would need to jump in and answer that. AppleOfSodom Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I've reported to the FDA 2 weeks ago, they haven't answered yet.I also reported to Infarmed (Portugal) 2 years ago, they answered and curiously marked my case as "strong probability of being connected to drug treatment". AppleOfSodom Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Thanks Laura. I remember an irish guy who was suing for PSSD. I never saw him again. I wonder if he went ahead. Laura1981 Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 No problem! I was considering to sue, but it's really impossible. How would you find the funds to take up a lawsuit with a drug company? I will certainly do that once I get healthy and rich :-P Instead I've filed a complaint about my doctor with the medical council. I don't think anything will result from it, but at least he has some paperwork and hopefully thinks about it twice before prescribing poison next time. InvisibleUnless Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 id imagine those charts moreso refer to 'primary withdrawal' than the 'protracted withdrawal' we are mostly dealing with on this site, which would account for the lower reporting rate. 3.72% fatality rate reported for people quitting those two SSRIs, though...thats basically saying that taking and quitting an SSRI, one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the world, is like playing russian roulette with a cylinder 4 and a half times as big (as the normal 6-shot). sobering. from 2005-2012, i spent 7 years taking 17 different psychotropic medications covering several classes. i would be taking 3-7 medications at a time, and 6 out of the 17 medications listed below were maxed or overmaxed in clinical dosage before i moved on to trying the next unhelpful cocktail. antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, NDRIs, tetracyclics): zoloft, wellbutrin, effexor, lexapro, prozac, cymbalta, remeronantipsychotics (atypical): abilify, zyprexa, risperdal, geodonsleep aids (benzos, off-label antidepressants & antipsychotics, hypnotics): seroquel, temazepam, trazodone, ambienanxiolytics: busparanticonvulsants: topamax i tapered off all psychotropics from late 2011 through early 2013, one by one. since quitting, ive been cycling through severe, disabling withdrawal symptoms spanning the gamut of the serious, less serious, and rather worrisome side effects of these assorted medications. previous cross-tapering and medication or dosage changes had also caused undiagnosed withdrawal symptoms. brainpan addlepation

Laura1981 Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 Update: I managed to get some more detailed data which includes the duration of the withdrawal reactions. Conclusion: They have no idea!!!!! From most reports, the duration of the withdrawal is missing. From the few reports that come with a duration, most were reported to last a couple of days. There are 3 withdrawal reactions with a bit of a longer duration: 97, 61 and 61 days. The reports include "North American Data" as well. My question would be: Is the data wrong or did really nobody report a withdrawal lasting more than 97 days? Perhaps the administrators in charge of compiling the data decided that certain withdrawal reports were not actually withdrawal and a relapse of symptoms or something like that. Obviously this is total nonsense, there's much longer durations of withdrawal than 97 days and certainly at least 10-50 reports have been filed over the last 20-30 years. Something smells fishy.
Laura1981 Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 Update: The duration is not mandatory to fill out, so likely what happens is: Patient gets sick of withdrawal, an initial report is filed, nobody ever follows up so the field remains empty. There is a periodic safety check for all SSRI and SNRI in 2017. If we manage to get enough reports in by that day, maybe they will wake up... Report people, report!!!! Yes i agree with this . Thousands/Millions? are not reporting anything because they are being silenced, too trusting of the doc who tells them when they seek answers that they have an underlying depression. We know this is complete nonsense. But then we are up against a medical profession that will not report adverse effects because then that doc would have to admit a patient has been harmed. And who wants to experience some serious cognitive dissonance. The result of this is that doctors report fewer than 5% of serious adverse events on treatment. Furthermore speaking up against a problem by a doctor is now a recipe for professional suicide...doctors are suffering their own variation of Stockholm syndrome. Offers to describe problems at professional meetings are being turned down. Journals are rejecting publications outlining a new problem. Those holding doctors hostage are being very kind indeed free meals, trips, who needs a credit card any longer and of course drug companies are supplying the objects that make doctors desirable. Everyone patients and doctors are hypnotized...oh yeah well the label concedes that the drug can cause that but...that is unlikely to be the cause in this case. And when the power imbalance is unprecedented and the arrogance unmatched we idiots-lesser mortals patients believe it. This is why in America and Europe regulators are now taking reports of adverse effects directly from patients. Did you know its documented that over 80 % of the reports on the adverse consequences dismissed as anecdotes have turned out to be correct! Aso 30% of the clinical trials that have been undertaken remain unreported and that of the 50% that are reported almost all will have been ghostwritten and roughly 25 % of the published trials altered to the extent that a negative result for a drug will have been transformed into evidence the drug works well and is safe. In 100% of the cases the data from trials remain inaccessible. There is very little incentive for a patient to report maybe altruistic purposes is the driver, in my case it was outrage! Thought for the day: Lets stand up, and let’s speak out , together. G Olsen We have until the 14th. Feb 2018. URGENT REQUEST Please consider submitting for the petition on Prescribed Drug Dependence and Withdrawal currently awaiting its third consideration at the Scottish Parliament. You don't even have to be from Scotland. By clicking on the link below you can read some of the previous submissions but be warned many of them are quite harrowing. http://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01651 Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos. Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Tell them if you wish to remain anonymous. We need the numbers to help convince the committee members we are not isolated cases. You have until mid February. Thank you Recovering paxil addict None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013. This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality! "Every time I read of a multi-person shooting, I always presume that person had just started a SSRI or had just stopped." Dr Mosher. Me too! Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015 I believe the ssri era will soon stand as one of the most shameful in the history of medicine. btdt Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Check under substances - >venlafaxine. It's the second tab on the start page I don't see a tab labelled substances?? WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG Had a car accident in 85 Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89 Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above. One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking. As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1096-introducing-myself-btdt/ There is a crack in everything ..That's how the light gets in
