Soliris is a life-saving drug, with a half a million dollar price tag. Patients are fighting the government to foot the bill, but not challenging the drug company to lower the price.

I watched this show the cost of Soliris for one patient for one year is $700,000.00 in Canada to treat a rare disorder. Controversy in Belgium - pharma company pays to have public relations firm work for a family to pressure the gov't to pay..

Actual cost of the drug... $60.00

The maker of the drug is

Alexion Pharmaceuticals

seems this company has been out shopping buying up many smaller companies all over the world including one in Canada...

Maybe I am an idiot... but when it comes to health money is not helping but corrupting life or death now depends on dollars we as a species allowed this we as a species need to fix it. Seems to me the study is going to be there with or without massive amounts of money scientists want to know things and given enough cash to survive and fund their work they will work they will learn they will invent. Allowing this corporate dealing in our health is going to be the undoing of our world.

If you think this gov't should pay these massive fees think again where that money is being taken how much more research could be funded by this cash... so many other things could be done with this money.  Lining the coffers of one giant company so it can buy up all the new good researchers - become even more powerful and hold us over the barrel again with new drugs they make using our money to buy our generally publicly funded research... are we all idiots...

I makes me crazier... I should throw my hands up and walk away... who do I think I am sitting her paralyzed on the couch thinking we have to do something ... I write letters sign petitions .. it changes nothing these people are nose to the grindstone watching like keen predators planning scheming daily... they don't give a crap about my signature on a petition or my letter to the MP

It is enough to make a person want to stop reading such things... out of sight out of mind. One word.

REGULATION second word... ENFORCEMENT

Both fail us daily.

Next idea I am going postal now...

Black market drugs we already have a lot of them being sold and they are not any good... but it the quality could be good maybe that will be the next step in dealing with capitalistic gouging of the gov't purse fight fire with fire.

We see this in all markets purses things I don't care about.. perhaps it will be the natural progression to prizes that are just too high. I can think of a few countries that have the expertise and lack of oversight that will be watching the money flow from these drugs and turning an eye to copy cats.

Generics too come to mind... but that is too legal I am sure lawyers have this side sewn up... that is my prediction... black market drugs will improve given the price point.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.
