Doses twice a day?

Recommended Posts

AmyK

Hi! I would appreciate experiences about dosing twice a day instead of one. I am on a very low dose of zoloft (0.65 mg) and it feels like the dose doesnt last all day.

I take my dose around 2 pm.

Do you feel better with two doses?

2016: 0,98 to 0,22 mg

2015: 2,35 to 1,01 mg

2014: 4,9 to 2,5 mg

2013: 9,1 to 5,1 mg

2012: 15,7 to 9,7 mg

2011: Started on 25 mg - then 50 mg- dropped to 25- to 12.5 mg - back to 25 mg - after 18.75 mg started tiny tapering to 16.6 mg

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

Hi my friend,

Ever since this February, I have been taking my liquid lex over 14. Hours every day, as my body simply can't take more than a tiny drop each time ( causing severe and serious reaction). So I dose every hour from 10 to 6 then every half hour from 6- 12 ( easier to take more in evening).

I did the transition to this long dosing schedule gradually (started 2 hours stretching to 14 hours over a few weeks). I believe it is how I survived to today without cold turkey.

How are you lately?

Thanks Lex. Oh gosh....It must be so hard.

So you carry the syringe with you wherever you are? Or in a bottle?

The dose now really knocks me out a couple of hours, and then it feels like the dose doesnt last the day after (kind of abstinence) until I take the drug again. But I am really afraid to change things.

Yeah, that is what I have been doing for a long time. I take the syringe with me all day long even in gym. I didn't find it causing problems in terms of extended dosing, but accidents happened couple times one time the syringe leaked and another time a guest played my syringe and pushed all the liquid out, both times left me with no clue how much left there, resulting in dose incraese which caused big drug reaction.

I'm now much more careful, carrying the syringe in a case for glasses. I can't even fix the tiny drops each hour, have to adjust according to how I feel each day and each hour.

If I understand correctly, you are getting reaction from taking the drug, even the body still needs more than the current daily dose. I have been in this situation for long, so getting symptoms from both WD and reaction. One would think the two should not coexist, but they do,

I am glad you found a solution, Lex. Even if I, of course, wish you didnt have yo endure all this.

You must carry that case like a piece of gold.

Yes, many days I feel abstinence in the mornings. But I think its most related to the days after/close to a decrease.

And often often when I take the drug I can feel it entering my body. It's such an awful chemical feeling.

I long for the day when we will be free!

Hi AmyK.  I switched my last psycho drug to twice a day dosing awhile back.......I had been doing once a day.  My last drug to withdraw from is not an SSRI or SSNRI though.......it's trileptal/oxcarbazepine.  It is usually dosed twice a day.  So that's how I do it.

Isn't Zoloft a once a day dosing?

Did it make me feel better or make things smoother for me?  Hmmmm.........possibly and I think so.

It's a bit of a pain as I remix every 3 days, keep the stuff in the fridge, measure it on out and dose it twice a day........like clockwork.  Missed a few doses too......last month.......it wasn't the end of the world or anything.   I've been decreasing 10% every 2 weeks to a month.  I have learned to just take what comes in the days after a decrease and take care of myself, things, people, etc.  I've made tons of progress and just don't question the process too much anymore.

Hope this finds you well.  I have a couple priorities to take care of today......including myself.........and then.........TGIF..........do my best to relax and just be.

Yes, I think is my answer to your question of "do I feel better?" ..........I'm just not sure if it's due to the splitting of my total dose into 2 or not..........not certain, it's not clear, etc.  :)   I wish I had a more definitive answer for you.

Started with psycho meds circa 1988 I think 27 or 28 total.

AD's, antpsychotics, antiseizure mood stabilizers. Lithium, lamictal ,benzos, and stimulants. Some med. for narcolepsy once(Provigil,) Gabapentin........probably more.  Ask me?......I probably was on it.  Haphazard W/D's by Dr. recommend or uneducated self.

10/2014- off Lexapro--had been on highest dose 10 mg. then 5 mg. for a couple of years, went from 5 mg. to 3 mg. liquid and then CT in hospital(voluntary).  I got out of the hospital on a combination of low dose adderal salts x1/day and trileptal 150mg. x2/day.

5/28/2015-off Adderal salts 2.5mg. (I had been on that since hospital 10/2014)

12/2015---just holding, holding, holding, with trileptal/oxcarb at 75 mg. 1/2 tab at hs.  My last psycho med ever!

3/21/2016---I did some unwise updosing of trileptal/oxcarbazepine with some stressful stuff......doubled the above dose x2 during this last wave but began liquifying again and on approximately 68mg. starting today.  11/12//2016 24 mg. oxcarbazepine  12/9/2016 off oxcarbazepine/trileptal!!!! :) optimistic  2016 December 9- completely off all medications!!!!!

Omega3's,EPA +DHA= 1800 mg/day. Magnesium complex, orally, diluted in a liter of H2O(that I can shake up.....it usually dissolves more completely as the water gets down to room temperature) and/or Epsom salt baths prn.   Vit. C, D3, and E.  B12, melatonin tapered to 1mg., and bioidentical hormones sublingually.  Trace mineral drops.  L-lysine.  L-methylfolate=400 mcg plus daily spinach. Totally ready for a good long window to hit soon and getting better strings of full days and partial days along the way.  Definite improvement overall since I first arrived on the SA survivor ship.  Herb and alcohol free since 5/15/2016.  None of my posts are intended as medical advice.  Please discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical provider. manymoretodays

Thankyou Mmt for your reply. I am glad you found something that works.

Yes, zoloft is supposed to be taken once a day. I think I will continue with once a day for a while, see how it goes.

I'm on effexor.  I switched to twice daily, and it improved my dizziness/queasiness ever-so-slightly.  Now, after years of weighing twice the amount of pills, I wish I hadn't, but I'm too scared to switch back and upset the balance.

2010  Fluoxetine 20mg.  2011  Escitalopram 20mg.  2013 Tapered badly and destabilised CNS.  Effexor 150mg.

2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants.  Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month.

Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms).

8 month hold.

2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent).

2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well.
Supplements: Fish oil, vitamin C, iron, oat-straw tea, nettle tea.

I just added morning dose to my reinstatement- I felt like it was needed but it's too early to say if it was the right thing to do

I just reinstated lexapro at 0.2mgs (yes 1/20th of a mg!) after over 5 mos off it completely.

I did have some balance issues last night when I got up to use the bathroom, but otherwise the up dose has gone ok

so now I am taking 0.2 mgs twice a day, I need to update my signature

  • pysch med history: 1974 @ age 18 to Oct 2017 (approx 43 yrs total)
  •  Drug list: stelazine, haldol, elavil, lithium, zoloft, celexa, lexapro(doses as high as 40mgs), klonopin, ambien, seroquel(high doses), depakote, zyprexa, lamictal- plus brief trials of dozens of other psych meds over the years
  • started lexapro 2002, dose varied from 20mgs to 40mgs. I tried to get off it several times. WD symptoms were mistaken for "relapse".
  •  2013 too fast taper down to 5mg but WD forced me back to 20mgs
  •  June of 2105, tapered again too rapidly to 2.5mgs by Dec 2015. Found SA, held at 2.5 mgs til May 2016 when I foolishly "jumped off". Crashed in Sept, reinstated at 0.3mgs in Oct. 2106
  • Tapered off to zero by  Oct. 2017 Doing very well
  • Nov. 2018 feel 95% healed, current age 63
  • Jan. 2020 feel 100% healed, peaceful and content
  • Nov. 2020, loving life ❤️
