If magnesium glycinate make you too sleepy, you may wish to take less of it. You were wise to go off magnesium citrate if you thought it was causing irritation. Good to hear your bladder is feeling better since you stopped mag citrate. Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate all that you do. Yes, you were right - I just needed to take less of the glycinate. Unfortunately my bladder is bothering me again. Withdrawals are hard enough and now this. Ugh. Mamabear1984
Soo I have taken some magnesium glycinate the last couple days and it seemed to knock out some of the cortisol and anxiety but it makes me sleepy. Moderator brassmonkey Posted August 18, 2021 Moderator Share Posted August 18, 2021 250mg is a pretty typical dose, taking less might not be as affective. If your are taking it to help with sleep you should take it about 2 hours before bed. 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017 "It's also important not to become angry, no matter how difficult life is, because you can loose all hope if you can't laugh at yourself and at life in general." ryan1982
Hey all- I took an epsom salt bath yesterday and I don’t know whether I put in too much or what, but since then I’ve been super weak, disoriented and slow. Mentor Greatful Posted December 24, 2021 Mentor Share Posted December 24, 2021 @ryan1982 I tried mag baths in Nov. The package said 2-3 cups well needless to say that was way to much. I got so weak/ and very fatigued. I think at the beginning of this thread someone talked about 1 cup. I haven't taken a mag bath since. I do have another question for the thread though. I upped my Magnesium Glycinate from around 150 to 200mg a day to 400mg a day about 6-7 days ago. Well my sinuses are super dry and I have been getting heart burn. Super dry mouth too. I guess this is too much for me also. I did not know that Mag was would dry you out so much. So I think I will try 300mg for a day or so and go from there. mFrustrated
Does anyone know why I would have such a bad reaction to an Epsom salt bath? It causes terrible anxiety. I had an adverse reaction to several anti depressants about 6 years ago, but I seem to be in a setback from an antibiotic my doctor gave me when I had Covid back in June. I used to be able to take Epsom salt baths with no problem, but since the antibiotic I can’t even take a bubble bath with a small amount of Epsom salt in it. It makes me so sad. It used to be one of the only things to help me relax when I was in a wave. mFrustrated Celexa- 2 days (February 2016) Paxil- 5 days (February 2016) Zoloft- 11 days (February 2016) BuSpar-2 days (June 2016)

Ariel
@TentacleFinn sorry, tried to PM you but received an error message that you can't receive messages? Not sure whether we're allowed to post links to outside commercial websites, guess we'll see. Here's what a quick search brought up on Australian webshops that sell Plantforce magnesium powder. Seems it's on sale right now at Mr. Vitamins. https://www.mrvitamins.com.au/products/twn-plantforce-magnesium?variant=39737286492314 https://www.thirdwavenutrition.com.au/product/plantforce-magnesium/ Btw I've seen this product available in sample-size little sachets. If you don't want to invest in a full-sized package right away, maybe it's possible to inquire whether they have samples? Just a thought. I've tried so many different kinds of magnesium -- capsule, tablet, powder, all different formulations -- and this one is my personal favorite, hands down. I so appreciate that I'm able to split my dose into custom quantities and sip the water as needed throughout the day/night. 1996-2018 - misc. polypharmacy, incl. The only thing different I did was take magnesium glycinate. 1998- pediatric ocd dx 40 mg Prozac; 2006- trial of anafranil, failed back to Prozac; 2007- trial of paxil, few months, weight gain, cold turkey no issues, back to Prozac: 2008- panic disorder dx- .25-.5 mg Xanax prn, but developed dependence until 2017, cold turkeyd for pregnancy; 2009- Prozac; 2010-2012- Zoloft, fatigue, weight gain switch to Effexor; 2012-2013- Effexor with bad constipation issues 2013- Prozac, cold turkey, no issues until 4 months later, destabilized, then back to Effexor; 2013-2016- Effexor and Dexedrin; 2017- switch to lexapro, tried to cold turkey, ended up with bad panic attacks. Put on 50 mg pristiq. Quit benzos, quit Dexedrine ct Now 2021- pristiq 50 mg with 50 mg ketamine troches x3 weekly, attempted taper in June cut by 50% in 3 days, nausea, panic Late June, second attempt with compound ex to 45.5 mg, did for two weeks, depression/crying/fatigue, reinstated last week of June to 50 mg. Early July- now suffering nausea, headache, food sensitivity, depression, dizzy feelings, panic. Gave up on taper thendec 2021- switched 50 mg Pristiq cross taper to 50 mg Zoloft april 2022- on 4/3/22 decreased Zoloft from 50 to 37.5 mg over the course of 8 days 4/11/22- having chills, nausea, body aches, and panic attack. Vasherr
What dose did You take? It is best to start with a low dose and work up slowly, I for example can't really take any dose in any form so it is possible Your reaction was due to magnesium, or it is also possible it was a withdrawal wave, if I were You I would try to eliminate magnesium and if You will feel better than You'll know the culprit. Moderator Gridley Posted June 1 Moderator Share Posted June 1 I wanted to share my experience with magnesium glycinate vs. magnesium threonate. During the last several years of tapering I've had good experiences with magnesium glycinate to help with WD anxiety and insomnia--not a panacea but it helps. I'd read about magnesium threonate and decided to give it a try instead of the glycinate. For the two days I switched, I experienced a severe ramping up of daytime anxiety and nighttime insomnia. After I researched the comparative benefits of the two types, I stopped the threonate and returned to glycinate and all was well. Everyone is different. One person's experience. That's an interesting observation @Gridley, something similar happened to me as well. My ramping up of symptoms wasn't very extreme but it definitely felt different. I stopped using it as well. I have found magnesium citrate to be the most effective one for me. OMW I am not a doctor and this should not be considered medical advice. Wanttofreemyself
I've been thinking about magnesium but i have concerns. Was wondering if it's okay to take if had you had kidney stones before because a lot of magnesium supplements have ingredients from seeds, nuts, and soy. Stuff I have to avoid because it may cause kidney stones again. - Late 2011/Early 2012? - Started celexa 10mg. - Sometime in 2012? - Due to doctors advice, jumped to 20mg. Not sure when but doctor suggested 40mg. Tried it for a bit, did not like it, felt flat and had low libido so doctor told me to go down to 30mg. - Started skipping 1 day or 2 days sometimes due to forgetting and hated being on drugs, felt it was a hassle. It became routine to skip one day and only take it when I felt withdrawal symptoms kick in like dizziness. Always took one 20mg pill and broke the second pill in half. - May 17 2022, finally talked to my doctor about tapering. Suggested I take 10 mg everyday. Tried taking only 10mg, started getting dizzy, took another half tablet, got horrible anxiety that night. Got scared, had to stop and reinstate back to 30mg that night. - May 18 2022 discovered and joined survivingantidepressants.org (woozy head and impaired balance lasted 1 week) - May 19 2022, began trying a reduction, (still skipping a day). Though had no scale so was inaccurately cutting my pills. No idea what dose I was taking, 25-27mg? - May 25 2022, bought a mg scale and started to better measure my dose. Tried 10% reduction, 27mg. (still skipping a day) - Ending of May was when I started having horrible anxiety - June 1 2022, finally started 13.5mg dose 8:15am, and began taking my dose everyday now - went to 13.7mg after a few weeks and still on it currently. Ariel
No stupid questions, right? I've been drinking a lot more water recently due to the heat. I haven't increased my usual daily magnesium dose, but should I? Does how much water I drink potentially change how much magnesium my body retains/uses/needs? I'm experimenting with slight, gradual increases and am guessing I'll know when it's too much if/when I pass the diarrhea threshold. Just curious about the theory behind it, if anyone knows. 1996-2018 - misc. polypharmacy, incl. Fantini
Hi @Ariel! How are tou? I hope you're well! Do you know if magnesium can help with akathisia? Ariel
Hi @Fantini I'm sorry you've been dealing with akathisia. That can be a very challenging symptom. I hope it gets better for you soon. I don't know whether magnesium helps directly with akathisia. Have you tried reading this topic from the beginning? There are many comments from other members, maybe you'll come across something helpful. I feel like magnesium has an overall calming effect on my nervous system. It also helps my digestion and makes menstrual symptoms milder. Magnesium is the only supplement I've found that I can take throughout WD with no undesired effects. I suppose it's not impossible that it could indirectly help akathisia by facilitating general soothing and healing of the nervous system. I don't know, I'm just guessing. The way I see it, everything's connected. So if one takes a holistic approach, anything that can support one aspect is also contributing to the general good (as long as it's not causing new and adverse side effects). This means that if you are going to introduce a supplement, e.g. magnesium, it should be magnesium only, not mixed with anything else. Otherwise, if you have a reaction, positive or negative, how will you know whether it's the magnesium or the zinc? In addition, as you have said yourself in previous posts, your system is very sensitive. I have tried all different kinds and this is the one that works best for me personally. I like that it's very easy to control the dose, I don't have to swallow pills, and I avoid any fillers and gel-caps that could irritate my system. 1996-2018 - misc. polypharmacy, incl.
