I am new to this forum. (Moved from Tips for tapering Seroquel topic)

I have been on Seroquel since Aug 1, 2018, 4 months at 25mg. I tried to come off of it cold turkey after 6 weeks, and my dosage ended up getting doubled to 50mg. I have since tapered down to 25mg. I notice every time I taper successfully, my sleep is initially fragmented for a few days progressively getting better.

I just had a unsuccessful taper attempt from 25mg to 22mg last week. I went four days without improved fragmented sleep. So then I went back up to 25mg again. Is this a case of perhaps simply finding a taper amount that I can tolerate easily enough? I am wondering what will happen if I had just stuck it out when I came down from 25-22mg. Would my body eventually have adjusted to that level? The uncomfortable sleep deprivation would be the obvious consequence.

Anyone coming off Trazodone out there?

taper

Does anyone have any experience with a "step taper"? For example, dropping from 100mg to 90mg, you drop 10mg Day 1. On Day 2, you go back to 100mg. On Day 3, you do 90mg...for maybe a week or so. I was wondering if it would make tolerating the taper drop easier on the body.

We don't recommend tapering by alternating doses.  It causes the amount of the medication in your bloodstream to go up and down, battering your nervous system, and makes withdrawal worse.

Your brain likes stability, to be treated gently.  It is ideal if you can accommodate it to lower and lower dosages. Move it slowly down a ramp by gradually decreasing dosage by an amount it may hardly notice. SA recommends tapering by 10% of your current dose with a hold of at least 4 weeks before your next decrease. The 10% taper method is a harm reduction approach to going off psychiatric drugs.
