☼ a99: can I still heal with all this stress ?

Recommended Posts

I have all types of weirded and very uncomfortable head symptoms, deep bone pain, pins and needling, numbness, pressure, twisted feeling, cloudy, swelling, poking, and others I don't even remember. They change positions and come and goes on hours and minutes. Some of them are companied by brain non functional, paralyzed left side of head, body, severe DR and confusion. I think they are not causing one by the other, instead they are only part of the struggling system and disconnected signals,.

I have been having them all the time daily during my micro taper in years. I'm still tapering and still having them.

When did yours started? Do they have a pattern within a day and over time?

Mine have always followed me since the first day I took the med but have become more severe since my last CT .

They don't have a pattern . They are just like yours : changing positions and different from hour to hour .

On and off prozac from 2010 -2014 .

Several failed fast tapers and reinstatements .

Cold turkey : March  2014 .

My son also experiences head symptoms. He describes it as a feeling that his skull and brain are being pulled outward. When this happens, he asks me to use my hands to press in on the sides of his head. He also sometimes talks about feeling like parts of his brain are turned sideways. He started to complain about it when he was on Risperdal, and it got worse once he was off all meds. It does seem to be happening less frequently with time.

a99: It's absolutely unfair that you've had this nasty withdrawal symptom as long as you have.

Non-drug techniques to cope with emotional symptoms can help with physical and neuro symptoms as well as emotional ones.

Thank you so much for your help .

But is it normal that it's taking this long ?

+ My head feels really really weird and  so painful I sometimes think that no one ever felt the same way !

Should I be concerned that it took  so long and it's so severe and weird ?

Unfortunately it can take months for your central nervous system to adjust fully to the absence of the Prozac, and there *may* be inttermittent waves that occur for a while after that. I hope that won't happen for you (or for me) but there are no guarantees, no ways of predicting.

Here's a relatively brief overview:  Introduction to anti-depressant withdrawal

If you have "head symptoms" and tingling and fluttering sensation on your head some of you may find that if you press here and there on top of your head you can hear a cracking sound under your fingers. I have this and have spoken to another person who also has it. Some of us actually have something there that we can feel,

I have pressure in my head almost constantly. It's generally at its worst at bedtime. I am almost certain that it is caused by Effexor (venlafaxine) dose reductions. There's the tingling/numbness in my left ear too. Also worst by bedtime.

I think perhaps that because I take the Effexor in the morning time, and since it has a short half-life, the blood concentration has become quite low by nighttime. That's just a guess of course.

The pressure started roughly two years ago which is when I first started to taper Effexor. I just hope that it doesn't get worse or that I don't develop any other unmanageable withdrawal symptoms as I continue my tapering.

Previously - zopiclone, risperidone, lyrica (pregabalin), ativan (lorezapam)
01/Aug/2016 -  65mg effexor, 4.5mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
12/Aug/2016 -  75mg effexor, 4.5mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
03/Oct/2016 -  70mg effexor, 4.5mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
29/Oct/2016 -  65mg effexor, 4.5mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
25/Nov/2016 -  65mg effexor, 4mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
25/Dec/2016 -  60mg effexor, 3.6mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
18/Jan/2017 -  60mg effexor, 5.25mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
27/Mar/2017 -  54mg effexor, 5.25mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
23/Apr/2017 -  54mg effexor, 7.5mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
09/May/2017 -  75mg effexor, 7.5mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
08/Jun/2017 -  75mg effexor, 6.75mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
18/Jul/2017 -  75mg effexor, 6mg olanzapine, 15mg mirtazpine
Sometimes valium. Not daily. Supplements - Sterols and Stanols.
Note : I would really hope that nobody uses my tapering history as a guideline. It might not work well for somebody else tapering similar medications.

a99: Yes you are closer to this going away. I wish I could tell you how long this will last for you; I wish some one knew and would tell you.  Nobody can. It's a rotten, rotten situation.

Sometimes it must take everything you've got to keep going with family, friends, school, and work. I'm sorry about how difficult that is. Keep hanging in there.

Acknowledging the progress you've made and being optimistic are always valid approaches to life and to difficult situations.

That however isn't what you're really asking me is it? :) I think you're asking whether you can count on the head pressure symptom being fully resolved or at least diminishing significantly in 6 months which will be 3 full years after your last dose. I don't know what to tell you.

People have symptoms that last for long periods of time and then slowly or suddenly resolve. I hope this painful pressure disappears overnight while you sleep tonight.

Yes, antihistamines can have an effect when taking SSRI/SNRI drugs or dealing with withdrawal symptoms after discontinuing them. Some of the drugs act on histamine receptors.

It's unlikely that any effect will be long-lasting. It is best to stay away from anti-histamines while dealing with w/d symptoms.

Hello a99, have you thought about finding a therapist? or do you already visit one?

About me ------------------------ College student with a history of anxiety, excessive worrying and health anxiety.

April 2014 - May 2015----------    Prozac 20mg On and Off.  Second time on it I developed apathy, changes in personality, asexuality.

May 2015  -   July 2015-----------------  Tappering off prozac. Still no feelings, anhedonia, apathy, no libido, asexuality.

Current symptoms--------  pssd (asexuality in my case). Anxiety and depression developed some months afer stopping prozac, could have been caused by obsessing and beating myself up too much when I found myself unable to like girls again. The best thing to do with pssd (which in my case is asexuality) is accept it and move on.

Do you keep notes on your symptoms: how frequently they occur, how long they last, how intense they are? It can be helpful to see what you've written and remember that "Oh yeah, things were much, much worse then."

Your signature says that you are "Improving VERY VERY slowly but continuously"  That is a good indicator that you will heal and recover.

I'm always tortured by negative ideas that even if I heal completely I won't be able to accept that I lost 7 years of my life without normal feelings especially that I lost my grandma 7 months ago . I'm always scared that I'll get depression because of the horrible things that I experienced in wd an then I won't even be able to use ssri to treat it because my system is sensitised .

I also feel guilty all the time for taking the med in the first place and for going cold turkey .
