OrangeCounty: Started taper Cymbalta

OrangeCounty

Recommended Posts

Hi and thanks for support on this forum. I just started tapering from 60mg of Cymbalta. I am using the Brassmonkey method, so I started on Monday at 2.5% or 9 beads of RisingPharm generic with 360 beads (30mg of 180 each x2). I hope I have this right. I was on Zoloft for 15 years, and was switched to Cymbalta two years ago for chronic pain issues. I am just tired of feeling numbed out, basically. We'll see how it goes. I have been successful tapering off harder drugs. :) Thanks again for support. It means a lot, and i have learned a lot reading all the forums.

Welcome to SA, OrangeCounty.  It's very good that you've started out right on your taper.  I've used the Brassmonkey taper on Lexapro and it has worked well for me.

You may already have these links, but I'm supplying them in case you don't.

We don't recommend a lot of supplements on SA, as many members report being sensitive to them due to our over-reactive nervous systems, but two supplements that we do recommend are magnesium and omega 3 (fish oil). Many people find these to be calming to the nervous system.

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil

Add in one at a time and at a low dose in case you do experience problems.

  • 2 months later...

Hi to all. I’m now over two months and nearly 30% down on Cymbalta. I haven’t noticed any withdrawal symptoms other than maybe an unhappy stomach.

I know the hard part hasn’t started yet, and sometimes it’s difficult to go slow. I find myself wanting to cheat a little, but I know that’s asking for trouble.

Good luck to all!

If you go too fast, it is definitely asking for trouble.  If you go too fast and withdrawal hits hard and you have to updose and wait to stabilize, your taper ends up taking longer than going at a safe rate.  I'm glad you haven't felt too bad, but keep in mind that withdrawal symptoms can be delayed, sometime for months than hit.
