Thanks grandmaD.

No I havent had stomach surgery before. I do suspect that a few years of taking medication on an empty stomach has upset mine though.

On the day of chiropractic, I can get a few breaths, its the next day that I feel I can breathe normally. The relief has only lasted 2 weeks at most for me so far - but I have not been exercising lately, past a bit of stretching and walking, I need to strengthen myself.

I didnt find the Lyrica too hard to get off, I actually felt better with the inital half dose drop. But I was only on it a few months, I'd have to check the paperwork but I think I started it oct 15, and started dropping it in feb 16. I do seem to still have vison and dry skin issues that started with the drug and have not left me yet. I had no idea they had smaller doses than 75mg!

My pain specialist was so stoked with himself, bragging that he helped get this wonder drug on the pbs... I kinda hope he ends up taking his own wonder drug one day. I felt completely drunk on it.

I have had shortness of breath with withdrawal.... doesn't seem anxiety related... lasts many hours or days. I really hope it goes away. It scares me the most. What did the chiropractor do that helped with the breathing? Do most chiropractors know how to help with breathing??

-Taking Deanxit - 1 tablet daily for 4-5 years (drug banned in many countries)

-Started tapering May 1, 2018

-Dr told me to go ct 1 week later

-Another Dr put me back on 1 week later (dizzy)

-Ended up in ER May 15, 2018 went to neurologist same day and he took me off Deanxit and put me on Depokine(Depokote) 5oo mg -Multiple withdrawal symptoms.

-Started tapering from Depokote 8 wks later - tapered slowly for 2 months

-Sept 20 stopped taking 64 mg Depokine on advice from 2 doctors seemed to be getting worse.

-many withdrawal symptoms continue no improvement.. 10 days off getting worse.

-given Lorazepam to sleep at night on Sept 21. Took 1/2 first 2 nights, then 1/4 the next, skipped 3 days, took 1/8, skipped a day, felt AWFUL the next day, trying to cut smaller from that day on... 1/8 or smaller...had a very bad day Oct. 8th...back to Dr. Trying to continue to taper........ afraid to just stop from very bad days!

I have severe asthma after going off Prozac Cold Turkey in 2015. I’ve never had asthma in my life and of course Dr’s told me it was “all in my head” because i was a dancer and a runner but i did a lung function test and it was 50% - Prozac is a devil alright.

It's all evil! So Sorry to hear that.... funny how Drs like to say it is in your head, I've heard it from one before while having multilple severe symptoms, and tge next Dr confirmed my symptoms are normal with withdrwawal.  They have no answer so first thing they go to. They shouldn't be practicing then!! 😡 Or should be made to feel what we feel!

I’m a young female, they especially don’t take me seriously especially when they see you’ve been on “psychiatric meds” - the worst part is that when i use inhalers, i get lung spasms because I’m hypersensitive to drugs now and the Dr’s say “that’s not a symptom that inhalers cause. Ahhhh. Twilight Zone! Lol - WHY WOULD ANYONE MAKE THIS UP?! And then because drs say “nothing is wrong with me” my family believes the Dr’s and shunned me as crazy. So sad, so very horrific.

I was going to ask how you handled the inhaler... that was my first thought if I had to use one, my body is hypersensitive to everything! My husband responded the same way to the Dr that said it was all in my head. He believed him and pushed it and kept sayi g it to me and it enraged me! It's so hard for others to understand what we are going through, family or not unless they experienced it themselves, it's sad and scary! Even many doctors just don't get it and arent educated! This needs to change!

I've had involuntary pursed lip breathing for over a year and it's maddening.  I think it's the body's way of dealing with anxiety, but it makes me more anxious as it never stops.  I breathe in normally through the nose and then exhale through the mouth through pursed lips with an audible sound.  It's very annoying to others....they wonder what's wrong with me.  I've had to isolate because of it since I can't stop it.

Sometimes I think I'll go crazy.  Does anyone else have this?  I've never seen it mentioned so think I must be the only one.  I hoped it might stop as I get lower in dose, but it doesn't.  I'm afraid it's permanent and that I'll always be this way.  I'm so very afraid.

I have the shortness of breath as well and have been hospitalized for low oxygen levels once and for pneumonia twice. I cough a lot and when I manage to cough something up, it is a clear substance that dries and looks and feels like hard plastic. I showed it to a doctor who just shook his head and gave me new inhalers. I use them because I must get some air but I have to spend most of my time sitting down. There are days when I’m so short of breath I can barely walk across the floor indoors.

I wanted to add to this thread. I experience the phenomenon of stopping breathing while I am falling asleep. It is really frightening, and another of the tens of reasons to get off quetiapine. It's difficult to say which medication is more evil, the paroxetine or the quetiapine, but stopping breathing is terrifying.

7 months of prescribed polypharmacy in 2015-2016, including several classes of psych meds.

1st attempt at taper was too fast. 2nd attempt is underway.

1 Mar 2018: 37.5 mg paroxetine, 150 mg lamotrigine, 300 mg quetiapine

1 Oct 2020: 30 mg paroxetine, 150 mg lamotrigine, 37.5 mg quetiapine

15 May 2022: 25 mg paroxetine, 150 mg lamotrigine, 0 mg quetiapine

11 Jan 2024: 20 mg paroxetine, 118.75 mg lamotrigine

Supplements: Iron, Vit D magnesium glycinate, omega 3

I am not a medical professional. All my posts are my opinions only, based on my experiences.

Hi all,

Last night like detailed earlier in this thread, I had an involuntary gasp for air - like a inward wheeze which felt a lot like a jerk.

I’ve been in withdrawal for almost six months now drug-free. I’m terrified that I’ve had a heart attack. Please is there anyone here who have had this symptom that can tell me otherwise?

I’ve had it once, then chest pains following it (think these pains are anxiety related as I’m so terrified).

Life was already pretty bleak but this has just made it a whole lot worse.

Icip.

Early September 2019 - One 25mg dose of Sertraline taken.

Early October 2019 - Five 25mg doses (pills) of Sertraline taken for five consecutive days.

Withdrawal/reaction happened on the 27th of October (2019) in the evening.

Symptoms that have gone: Joint and muscle pain/weakness in my legs, phantom senses, chemical dread, chemical fear, DP/DR has gotten a lot lot better than what it is now, it was one of my worst and all-encompassing symptoms when it started, awful aphasia, parkinsonism, head pressure, pressure in my frontal lobe when trying to think/work out something, inability to plan or execute anything//feelings of being literally scatterbrained, inability to think in my head other than slight acknowledgements - the voice in my head sounded weak and 'small' like it was restrained to a much smaller area of my brain, constant fatigue, emotional numbness, constant eyestrain, and changes in perception of colour/contrast in sight.

Main remaining symptoms: Visual Snow/HPPD, derealisation, tinnitus, and brain/cog fog.

Drug free.

@Rachellynn,

Hi, I’ve just done a little digging as per your advice. When in withdrawal I noticed my heart rhythm had changed, since the weird jerk thingy I had two days ago, it almost seems normal. A little heavy maybe + tired feeling - but I can feel it and it’s slowed down substantially (was fast + light before).

I’ll still go to the doctors when I can just to check everything as heart problems are prevalent in both sides of my family, but thank you:) you’ve calmed me down a little!

Icip.

Can I ask if you’ve had it before?

@Riina, @SigmundFreud, did any of your night gasp breathing improve. It just started for me. Riina was yours iron or menstrual related? Sleep apnea? Is temporary sleep apnea possible? Can anyone actually stop breathing or does your body actually always begin breathing again

It's a scary symptom

Thx

I do have shortness of breath throughout the day...mostly during the night. I've learned to accept it. This is different tho.

  • 2 weeks later...

8 days started noticing shortness of breath. I have a hard time breathing esp in the morning when I get out of bed (lasts awhile), if I engage in too much exertion (my limits are low- am 9 wks into lexapro withdrawal), or if I’m in certain body positions.  Laying on my stomach feels better.  Diaphragmatic breathing helps for a little while.  Today the chest tightness and pain are there too.  Got a covid test Wed am- came back negative.  My pulse oximeter readings sometime sit at 94 and occasionally dip to 93 or 92 briefly at night while lying on my back.  If I walk around a bit w it on they go back up to 95-99.   Since it isn’t covid it has to be lexapro withdrawal, but has anyone else experienced this???

Was on Lexapro for 66 days starting in early January.  5mg for a week, 10mg for 3, 7.5 for 3 days, then 5mg and 2.5mg for approx two weeks after.

Was on Lithium for 60 days starting in late January. 1 300mg ER pill a day.  Stopped CT

Was given a .5 ativan script in early Jan.  Took it maybe 20x total from early Jan to beg of June, 2020.

-Fall of 2019:  had two vertigo attacks for the first time with no warning, each followed by 4-5 days of morning dizziness.

-Last Friday of 2019:  had first ever, out of the blue, panic attack.  Went to ER- didn't know what was happening.  Was diagnosed w/GAD, even though had never had anxiety or depression problems before.  Basically no health problems at all prior to this, and in very good shape emotionally, physically, and mentally.

-4 days after panic attack given lexapro.  That's when the hell began.  Was on it 66 days.  Reacted badly to it.  Gave me suicidal ideation 4 wks after starting it, plus exhaustion, off the charts anxiety, dizziness, and fatigue.  Did a fast taper over 5 wks.  Was on it 66 days total.

-been off lexapro completely since mid-March, 2020.  First 3 weeks I got better and better.  Then, week 4 into WD got slammed.  Since then, over 64 side effects/symptoms.  Can't drive.  At times, barely surviving.

-since Jan., have been to the e r 16x.

-was given lithium after experienced SI from lexapro to as a "mood stabilizer".  Never really noticed anything from it, nor anything after stopping it, except for a few days of heightened depression about a week after.

-was given low dosage ativan script 2nd week into lexapro to deal with the anxiety/panic spike caused by the lexapro.  Took it perhaps 20x between Jan and June, 2020.  Always made me feel better, but last time it was taken (early June) experienced intrusive thoughts after so stopped it.  Didn't feel any negative reaction from stopping it, perhaps b/c it was taken so infrequently and the dosage was so low.

I get the gasps when lying in the bed resting or trying to sleep.  Sudden intake of breath.  Plus I get shortness of breath pretty frequently.  My blood oxygen seems ok, holding about 96%.  Does anybody know exactly what’s causing this?  It’s just one more withdrawal symptom I’m having that I don’t know if that’s it or something else.

Introduction: Orbet: First post

on numerous psych meds going back to 2003

2020 sertaline for a few months, tried latuda for about a week, ct sertaline over concerns about serotonin syndrome

seroquel 100 and trazodone 50 continuing through

2021 April seroquel increased to 200 mg, Trazodone increased to 100 mg,  a few days latuda before I stopped taking it.also, took low doses of haldol left over from an old script ending in April. May 2021

Doctor cut seroquel from 200 mg to 100 mg

trazodone raised from 100 mg to 150 mg

became suicidal, hospitalized for 6th time in two years

tried on vraylar, 2 days, haldol, 3 days, sent home, took latuda a couple of days, put on Prozac but stopped after two days due to heightened anxiety. Currently on: seroquel 100 mg, trazodone 150 mg, and Benadryl 50 mg at 12:00 am nightly, and hydroxyzine 100 mg x 3 I only take twice daily at 12:00 Pm and 6 pm.

Anyone else had their breathing become difficult after stopping taking antidepressants?

Three months after stopping sertraline (zoloft) my breathing has become difficult and it feels like I need to cough all the time.

I find noticing my emotions, slowing down, and breathing from as deep as possible helpful in those moments.

mine appeared in January and I still have SOB all be it not as bad as it was in Jan-Feb.

Question: does anyone with this feel like it's worse after meals?

In general I've noticed it is always worse after meals, and now that things are better, I notice the only time where it sees to flareup are after loads of carbs... For example I had a pint of lime juice today, which I never have, and it was my worst day in weeks...

Nov 2019: put on amitriptyline 100mg for insomnia. Worked great, sleep back to normal by March 2020

Jan 2020: Amitriptyline down to 50mg. Some withdrawal for two weeks.

April-May 2020: tapered off amitriptyline a first time over 6 weeks. withdrawal.

June 2020: reinstated amitriptyline 50mg a first time. Things improved progressively for 6 months. Backto normal in November

December 2020: new attempt at tapering amitriptyline (from 50mg), slower this time

February 2021: 30mg amitriptyline... withdrawal starts

March 2021: reinstatement 35mg amitriptyline, then 50mg late march.

April 2021: increased dosage to 75mg; Kindling started, HORRIFIC.

July 2021: reinstatement clearly made things worse so I decide to taper slowly again, at 2.5mg per month

March-April 2022: I hit 45mg amitriptyline dosage, withdrawal has drastically improved, symptom intensity down to 2 or 3 out of ten. Able to exercise, drink etc no issues. I pause the taper. I have stayed on 45mg of amitriptyline ever since.

May 2022: New wave of withdrawal, lasts until January 2023 (nerve pain in my skull)

May 2023: New wave, this time anxiety and pins and needles in my head, much like the kindling reaction in 2021. Not sure what caused it. Wave still ongoing.

Hi, it is the hot weather that makes it hard to catch my breath and then i seem to spirall into panic breathing!!! Horrid but I try to manage it by doing breath work, which helps but does mean I spend a lot of time counting my breaths rather than doing anything else, which in turn makes it worce. I think its just one of the joys and delights of WD!!!!! Take care Redkite

Also wrote this in my into topic, but since it is so connected to the breathing problems I will put it here too.

I was 3 months completely of Venlafaxine, thinking the worst withdrawals where gone. I was just havinf problems with my mood at this point, depression.

One day I suddenly feel like I can't breathe, and over the next week symptoms get worse. No energy at all, throat feels like its thightening up, waking up because I can't breathe. Not enough air to talk when I have a conversation. Dizzy, confusion and eventually my gut starts to act up too, trouble eating and my stomach seems it doesnt want to digest anymore. Laying on couch in fetal position for days, too sick to do anything.

In the ER they can't find anything wrong, even went to cardiologist. During a walk I would get an attack of some sort where my chest feels really bizarely sick and left arm tingling, so obviously I feared for my heart.

The symptoms where at times triggered by food, but an allergy also didnt really make sense either.

I call this my month of hell, because its been a month now and I still have trouble breathing. The other symptoms seem to have lessened or are gone. I hope the worst is over, because this is one of the worst WD symptoms I experienced.

The fact that during this month my morning cortisol spikes came back and my mood was all over the place made me understand it might just be WD, but in the back of my head I'm still worried.

I went from 10 to 0mg in just 2 months, so that probably did it for me. My central nervous system must be out of wack.

2000-2008 citalopram dose unknown

2008 - 2020 Venlafaxine XR 75mg

2020-2021 Venlafaxine XR 112 mg(for about 3 months)

2021 februari tapering begins! 85mg march, 75mg april, 65mg may, 55mg june, 50mg august, 42mg october, 37.5mg december

2022 34mg may, 31mg june, 28mg juli, 25mg august, 20mg september, 18mg october, 14mg november,

2023 10mg feb, 5mg  march, 0mg 28 of march
