Not a lot I don't think. She refers patients to psychiatrists for psych drugs and is not familiar with Mirtazapine. She alooked it up and says I need to go to 15mg which I know is wrong.

I know this but was worried by her reaction.

Well, don't pay any attention to her advice about psychiatric drugs. Many doctors don't know anything.

The thing that bothers me the most is I still have absolutely no appetite. I lost it during the cold turkey and it hasn't returned. I am forcing myself to eat a little but I have dropped so much weight I am worried I may die of malnutrition. Had anyone else had this? I am very worried as if stabilising symptoms are this bad, how am I going to cope during a taper from hell?

You may wish to reduce the mirtazapine again by a tiny bit, maybe .5mg, to further reduce the palpitations.

I'm not really getting palpitations or if I do they are not too noticeable. And am also worried to destabilise myself further with any reduction though?

I am suffering extreme fatigue, extreme malaise, nausea, chest burning, GI and am losing more and more weight. I am pretty desperate but I know I have to stay the course but I don't see how I can

I read that stabilisation from a cold turkey can take many weeks or months but I don't know how I will survive this if I can't eat properly. Sorry for the miserable post. I wish I has better news but I don't .

Since writing this my young son has just given me a proper talking to and boy did I need itt! He has told me this will not kill me. I have to give it more time, be positive, distract and force myself to eat sensibly even if I am not hungry.

Change in attitude required but hell, this is tough!

Angel, since you felt better after reducing mirtazapine to 6.5mg, that indicates you were taking too much. Slightly less might be more tolerable and reduce those symptoms you feel.

Thanks Alto. I would love to reduce my dose but if I do this, would this destabilise me further as I have 10 days under my belt on 6.5mg and I have been feeling a little better today overall despite the symptoms.

Are the symptoms I am getting normal withdrawal symptoms do you think or something that would defintely lessen if I reduce?

I am so confused, I don't know what to do.

Thanks

Angel

Perhaps I should give the 6.5 mg a full month to see if symptoms settle somewhat and then consider a drop if I am no better. What do you think Alto?

Today has been slightly easier with a nice window this evening - first time. Maybe it was my son's pep talk too.

Today has been a fraction easier but the burning inside my chest is severe and painful throughout the day.

I know you have kindly given me advice Alto to reduce by 0.5 to 4.5 or just reduce to 6 now. But how would I know whether the chest burning would be relieved?

Has anyone else had this nasty symptom? Please chip in.

I just don't know what is best for me to do:

1) to persevere and hopefully stabilise on 6mg - will I know if I have stabilised by one month?

or

2) to make dosage reductions and accept the consequences of fresh withdrawals ?

My heart tells me to persevere but it's so difficult.

Sorry for all my questions

I actually looked up the side effects of Mirt and this burning ( or heartburn) is a side effect so I think I may get it at any dose. It is by far my worst symptom and I think I could cope if I didn't have it.

Has anyone else has this and how did you deal with it?

Side effects are related to dosage. Decreasing dosage usually decreases side effects, such as the palpitation.

Having side effects delays stabilization of your nervous system.

The only way to find out if you are more comfortable at 6mg is to try it.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I just want to record this day 11 on 6.5mg. It has been the worst day of my life and am praying for strength to carry on.

Apart from symptoms I am also getting horrendous mind blowing heartburn. My stomach is quite empty as I have no appetite and that probably makes it worse but I just can't eat.

Today's symptoms have been anxiety based waves which have had me crawling out of my skin, feeling fatigued, nauseous and terrible.

Symptoms that have improved are blood pressure (normal now), palpitations are no longer strong nor on a daily basis, stomach cramps have lessened, brain fog lifted so perhaps I am stabilising?

I read somewhere that the liquid Mirt doesn't cause as much heartburn as the sol tabs which I am taking.

This is the most difficult thing I am going through. Maybe not worse than Benzo withdrawals but certainly on a par with them. I honestly don't know where I can find the strength to travel on this difficult journey.

Can anyone relate?

Angel,

yes I can relate.

I'm in a 'there's no way out' kind of wave at the moment too. I know you want somebody to tell you EXACTLY what would happen if you reduced your dosage. But unfortunately nobody has any way of knowing.

You just have to try it and see what happens. I will tell you that early on in my updose, my symptoms got much worse before they got better. Sometimes stabilization can take a long time.

I feel for you x

July 2001 prescribed 20mg citalopram for depression;
On and off meds from 2003-2006.
February 2006 back on 20mg citalopram and stayed on it until my last attempt at tapering in September 2011.
By far the worst withdrawal symptoms ever. Reinstated to 20mg citalopram
October 2012 - found this forum!
Nov 2012 to Feb 2013 did 10% taper, got doen to 11mg - was going great until stressful situation. Cortisol levels hit the roof, hideous insomnia forced me to updose to 20mg.
March 2016 - close to 100% back to normal!

I'm extremely worried and depressed. I spoke to the Bristol and Tranquiliser Helpline today as I was feeling so ill from w/ds. The man pointed out the relevance of my previous A/Ds which I never took into account nor the fast tapers nor the relevance to my panic attack or the way I was feeling when I was put on the MIrtazapine in January. I have updated my signature.

He says I have essentially done 3 cold turkeys plus my benzo saga and it is going to take months to stabilise. He said I was bound to get some repercussions.

What have I done? Am I the worst-case scenario here? Am I going to be okay?

I honestly never realised my previous history has contributed to how I am feeling.

Can anyone reassure me I am going to be fine in the end.

I am so worried.

Angel, many people here have been switched on and off numerous drugs. This does affect one's sensitivity to dosage changes. You are far from the worst-case scenario. You are getting waves and windows of feeling better. This is normal in recovering from psychiatric drug damage.

Please focus on managing your tendency to worry. This is an important skill that will serve you well now and in the future. Only you can do this for yourself. Unless you do it, no matter how many times we might reassure you, it won't be enough.

One thing you might do is re-read this entire topic when you are feeling worried and see that you've made progress already.

Thanks Alto. I am very relieved. I was worried that with my full history which I didn't realise was relevant when I joined this site, that the outcome for me might be different now. Thank you so much for putting my mind at rest.

And yes, I am having better moments. And will try not to worry so much.

Thanks

Angel
