Hmm I've had the zaps before when missing a dose, it doesn't really feel like that, it's more constant

 

People report different kinds of head sensations, pressure, fog, vibrations, fuzzy feeling, humming, pain, crawling sensations, there's probably more.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

I've had almost all of those except the crawling sensations. And no alto I was taking fish oil when off the meds for a month, but quit a few days into reinstatement. I tried taking one a few weeks ago and felt depressed and had higher anxiety for days after, no idea if it was the fish oil or just coincidence but I've been scared to try it again. I havent tried magnesium yet, a bit nervous on trying supplements at the moment.

I've been on and off fish oil several times and changed brands too.  I think it increases my anxiety.  I'm off it now, its hard to tell, but I think I'm slightly better off it.

I haven't heard of anyone having a bad reaction to magnesium and it does seem to provide a calming effect for many of us.  If you take too much, you get diarrhea, so its best to start slow and find your tolerance level, if you decide to try it.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

I had reaction to fish oil and to magnesium seems I am the reaction queen around here I will add for anyone knowledge base that I also have second stage fibrosis of the liver and often wonder if this has something to do with all the reactions I get my liver just can't cope but that is just me guessing.

Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

i had an ok week, broken sleep and some head sensations were my main symptoms, today im feeling really depressed from some personal things going on, but im sure its being magnified because my emotions are a little out of whack still

Planning on making my first drop at the start of march. There's 192 beads in my 37.5 effexor so I will drop 19 beads and see how it goes.

What brand of effexor are you on? I have 37.5 mg with about 130 beads. It's the brand name from Phizer.

Started Effexor August 2012 Sept'12-150mg=extreme anxiety Oct'12 cut half-75mg severe wds

Feb 2013 68.5mg. Mar'13- 65mg. Apr'13-59mg. May'13-57mg. June '13-52mg Aug'13 49.75mg.

Sep'13-48.75. Nov'13-47mg Dec'13-45..5mg

May 2014 42mg. Jun'14 40mg (depressive mood started). Aug'14 -40mg/ started brintellix 2.5mg

Planning on making my first drop at the start of march. There's 192 beads in my 37.5 effexor so I will drop 19 beads and see how it goes.

Have you thought of a scale to be sure you getting the correct amount.  I did not taper but think having a scale is stacking the deck in your favor as I think the correct amount is very important. I could be wrong.   You still have time to get one I bet if your not dropping till March.

Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

If I were starting an effexor taper I would buy the scale now.  I don't know if it makes that much difference but I hear Effexor is put in the capsule by weight and the number of beads varies.. per pill... so I would buy the scale first thing.  Just me and what I would do.  stack the deck on everything I could think of.  I would buy the scale.

Had a decent 2 weeks, still have some weird head symptoms so im gonna hold off on starting my taper for a little bit. The other night i had pretty bad nausea and felt car sick almost? thats the only way i know how to describe the feeling i had,no idea if it was withdrawal or something i ate/did, it went away the next day. Overall my symptoms are pretty manageable, very minor tinnitus (have to plug my ears to notice it) some weird head feelings usually when im trying to sleep or waking up, sometimes i have a lack of concentration and brain farts.

Sounds not too bad I wonder if any of this would improve if you made  a drop in dose I have seen it help other people.  No way to know tho... did you get the scale?  Seems you are doing well :)

Hi Lespaul, I would go for the scale, in my experience counting those beads is a nightmare, and the

different size beads means that you aren't getting consistent doses. I guess the scale will be more

accurate than trying to measure/count the beads.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor. 

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013  

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D 

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

 

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg  

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

I did not buy a scale so I cannot comment on it I hope others who have will come here and comment but they would not know this is information you looking for ...maybe a new thread with you experience with scales... would be an idea so people who have bought one can help you...or you could keep searching on her till you find the information you need. 

Just a thought I think you need a scale that works so if this one is no good don't buy it.  Find a good one.
