Btdt,

I sincerely appreciate that you are trying to help by sharing someone's info from another board. In the future, will you please post just a link to the Topix (or other) thread and not include full text in my intro thread? Or, perhaps open a separate topic and notify me.

I'm on serious overload and have to limit my exposure to new info.

Thanks in advance.

Barb

Just wanted you to know that I think about you a lot and send you well wishes. I have seen a few posts from you and that is heartening.

What happened and how I arrived here: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4243-cymbaltawithdrawal5600-introduction/#entry50878

July 2016 I have decided to leave my story here at SA unfinished. I have left my contact information in my profile for anyone who wishes to talk to me. I have a posting history spanning nearly 4 years and 3000+ posts all over the site.

Thank you to all who participated in my recovery. I'll miss talking to you but know that I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines, suffering and rejoicing with you in spirit, as you go on in your journey.

Barbs I just want to say that I am not saying you should be taking the steroids!

I'm sorry it looks that way, I didn't mean to come across that way and apologise if I did.

My niece didn't look after herself and wouldn't have looked at changing her lifestyle.

She takes better care of herself but still drinks and eats junk food! She needs the

steroids because she wouldn't change her lifestyle enough to manage the illness.

I was thinking about what I had written and realised it could come across as me

suggesting that you need the steroids. I'm not always very good at explaining things.

Btdt is right, there will be other ways of managing things without drugs and I know

you would rather do that than suffer by taking more drugs.

I did a search awhile back on ad benzo and steroid withdrawal and this site came up I have not truly explored it yet but think there must be withdrawal from steroids too or it would not have made the list.. no idea why I searched now but have found it again.

here is the link if you can make any use of it. Barb

I do intend to give a it look over eventually if I don't forget about it again.

I think of you also and wish your journey was easier...

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Barb,

I wrote the wrong years on my thread. I should have said I finished my psych drug taper in 2002-2004. My sleep issues continue and I'm not too sure why?

Hi Barb, thinking of you.

I've been struggling with grief again lately, over my lost life. How can you grieve a life, a lost life? It's just too big.

Last night I dreamed my children were young again, and in my dream we were living together in a happy household and they were having the childhood I always wanted for them (which they never got).

When I have those dreams I never want to wake up. But of course I do.

At least, even though my house is lonely, it's peaceful. And spring is here. I'm sick today, staying inside, but I can see sunshine through the window. That sounds symbolic, but really it's just an actual window made of glass, actual sunshine coming from the sun.

Well, this isn't cheery...sorry. Anyway, wanted to say hello.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Sending healing thoughts and love to you Barb, you have a home here

(hugs)

Petu.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Toxic father was in hospital in PA. He's ok now. I visited with foolish hope that miraculously, things would be different with him and my drug addicted sister. It was the first time I'd been home since my mother died. I was too sick with withdrawal to attend her funeral. My father has never believed nor forgiven me for not being there to put on the family show.

I see now that he abused both my sister and mother. He told me that my mother begged him to take her and run away from my sister, but he continued to provide drug money. When I visited when she was alive, she begged me to take her away from my dad and sister, back to the west coast. Knowing the torment she lived in for the last several years of her life is painful beyond words.

I saw much more of the sister/father dynamic. I tried for years to get help for her, but now I'm treated as the outsider and "bad guy". The guilt my father is carrying around is tremendous though he'll never admit it. The drug she abuses (Fioricet - barbiturate) is FDA approved ~ that is his rationalization. She lived with him for short time recently until he found her unconscious one morning. Paramedics revived her, then a stint in local psych ward.

WHY am I only seeing this pattern ~ with father at the helm ~ now during withdrawal?? It was so much easier when I just had a sister who was a drug addict.

Husband had to come to PA to rescue me. I have been despondent, unable to function. I know that CA is not much better. I don't know how much longer I can exist like this.

These are my only survivors. I have no family of my own. Somehow it seems that might make this all a bit easier..

It's a sad situation, Bar, with no easy solution....I'm sorry, I understand how this is weighing on you right now. Just know you're not alone, it seems most of us have difficult family relationships.

I really hope you feel better, soon. I'm glad your husband came to rescue you.

One positive thing is that your husband did come to PA to rescue you ... that is huge based on what I understand of your relationship.  It is something that there is someone to rescue you.  Maybe you would like a better "family," but at least you have a life line.

It is huge that you were able to travel to PA.  Give yourself some credit for this, too.  Maybe it was too much for you and that is why you became despondent.  It really does sound like the family in PA is toxic.

I don't know why you are just now seeing the dynamic clearly - perhaps it is because you have had the benefit of some distance ... the benefit of being separate from being directly in the dysfunction for some amount of time.

I'd like to offer you a thought, you don't need for your father to forgive you for not coming to PA to participate in the family drama around your mother's funeral.  If you are blaming yourself for being too ill to travel to the funeral, then you should forgive yourself.  It was not something you could do at the time.

I have always found that it is the people who I love and respect whose opinions I care about.  If I don't love and respect someone who has a bad opinion of me, I just let that go - it doesn't have anything to do with me.  But it is what I think of myself that can cause me the greatest discomfort.  It doesn't sound like you love or respect your father and it doesn't sound like he is being very fair to you.   Can you let that go?

Barb, just because these people are related to you by blood doesn't mean it is your only connection in life.  I think about you every day and send your positive energy every day.  There are many of us here ... in this virtual community ... that have a lot of positive energy for you.

Sending you love, light, healing energy, strength and courage.

Things look different when in withdrawal so I think anyway.  There are many states of withdrawal and some of them it is best to try to avoid anything too deep.  I could easily convince myself of something when in a withdrawal bad state that seemed untrue when I had a window.  Maybe let it all rest for now and see how you feel about it later as it may change.  I wish you peace.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Hi Barb, I'm glad your husband came to rescue you and agree with Karma

that it is good he did that for you. Maybe it will be good for you now that you have seen

the truth about how things really are.

I hope that things can start to improve for you in some way, however small, you have

going through so much and deserve a window.  Mamma hugs. xx

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

Thanks everyone. You all speak the truth that is so darn hard to see for myself right now.

I wasn't away for a few hours when I started receiving messages that my sister is in psych ward on another OD. She's ok medically. One message, in particular, struck me. My cousin texted me because she has given up on influencing my dad, but wanted me to call to be sure he was ok. This is typical of how I was the family liaison and ran interference for many years. I won't be put in that position again.

Some positive things came of this experience (thank you, Karma dear)

Husband is stepping up.

I was able to travel myself.

I was very functional and upbeat while dad was in hospital. It was when we were alone together in the house that I became despondent. I realized that I don't like him, respect him and probably don't love him. Very hard to admit to myself.

Things appear very different since being off Pristiq, though I saw red flags previously. Others have described how their worldviews have been turned upsidedown. It's extremely disturbing and I often question which "reality" is real. Not just concerning medicine and drugs, but all aspects of life.

Regarding other people in my life.... I have so few people left that I am in touch with. Only 1 or 2 local friends, my husband and his family (none local). My job used to be the foundation of my social life and support. I know it leads me to seek out or accept people that I wouldn't have previously. "Any friend is better than no friend" kind of thing. Not healthy, I know, but I recognize that tendency since not being able to work for many years.

I love and appreciate you all more than I can describe!

Pristiq tapered over 8 months ending Spring 2011 after 18 years of polydrugging that began w/Zoloft for fatigue/general malaise (not mood). CURRENT: 1mg Klonopin qhs (SSRI bruxism), 75mg trazodone qhs, various hormonesLitigation for 11 years for Work-related injury, settled 2004. Involuntary medical retirement in 2001 (age 39). 2012 - brain MRI showing diffuse, chronic cerebrovascular damage/demyelination possibly vasculitis/cerebritis. Dx w/autoimmune polyendocrine failure.<p>2013 - Dx w/CNS Sjogren's Lupus (FANA antibodies first appeared in 1997 but missed by doc).
