FeralUrban
Butler Hospital, in association with Brown University in Providence, RI are doing research on a 20 week taper comparing two different taper methods. Is this unusual? Considering the paucity of information from pharma and/or scientific research on tapering I was astonished to see this being done. I've put in a call. The research head is on vacation for week, so I'll need to wait to hear back. I probably won't be eligible as my anxiety is PTSD based, not PD, SAD or GAD! TAPS Tapering Anxiety Pharmacotherapy Support Study What is the Purpose of the TAPS Study? The TAPS Study evaluates two supportive programs designed to help individuals with panic disorder (PD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) safely come off long-term medication frequently prescribed for these disorders. In this study we focus on one type of medication, serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs), which include: Anafranil (clomipramine), Prozac (fluoxetine), Paxil (paroxetine), Lexapro (escitalopram), Celexa (citalopram), Luvox (fluvoxamine), Zoloft (sertraline), Effexor (venlafaxine), and Cymbalta (duloxetine). Administrator Altostrata Posted July 31, 2016 Administrator Share Posted July 31, 2016 The problem with these studies is that they are rarely designed to identify withdrawal symptoms. Instead, they use depression measurement questionnaires, which causes adverse reactions to be diagnosed as a relapse or emergence of depression. Can you find the name and e-mail address of the psychiatrists who are heading this study? This is not medical advice. nz11
Great find thanks for posting. Thought for the day: Lets stand up, and let’s speak out , together. G Olsen We have until the 14th. Feb 2018. URGENT REQUEST Please consider submitting for the petition on Prescribed Drug Dependence and Withdrawal currently awaiting its third consideration at the Scottish Parliament. You don't even have to be from Scotland. By clicking on the link below you can read some of the previous submissions but be warned many of them are quite harrowing. http://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01651 Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos. Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Tell them if you wish to remain anonymous. We need the numbers to help convince the committee members we are not isolated cases. You have until mid February. Thank you Recovering paxil addict None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013. This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality! "Every time I read of a multi-person shooting, I always presume that person had just started a SSRI or had just stopped." Dr Mosher. Me too! Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015 I believe the ssri era will soon stand as one of the most shameful in the history of medicine. FeralUrban
I just spoke with Christina Boisseau, the research director. This is what I learned. It is an NIH funded study and the results will be on PubMed next year sometime, perhaps 12 months from now. Since it is a double blinded study she has no idea yet what the results may be. The two groups both receive weekly taper management meetings with psychiatrists. One group also receives training emotional management to deal with re-emerging symptoms of OCD in the TOPS study and Anxiety in the TAPS study. They are working with OCD and Anxiety Disorder patients on any SSRI or SNRI. They will be comparing the data from various medications, say Prozac vs. Effexor. They are monitoring withdrawal symptoms as well as re-emerging disorder symptoms. I thanked her for doing the study and let her know that withdrawal is a huge problem for a large number of people and I mentioned the surviving antidepressants website. I asked her for a referral to a doctor who could help me withdraw. She had no specific recommendation. That was a bit disappointing, but expected. 2002 to 2016 Venlafaxine ER 225mg. 2013 TMS treatments triggered nerve pain in face, arm, back. 2016 TMS round ending Feb 1 Central Nerve Pain and and sub-acute serotonin toxicity compounded by Imitrex.
