Colonoscopy Prep

compsports

Recommended Posts

Scheduled for one in a few months.   Unfortunately, the doc has ordered MoviePrep which sounds ghastly.   Can anyone share their experiences and tell me which preparations they had better luck with?

I am seriously thinking of asking for an alternative like swallowing pills but wanted to have the right information.

Thanks!

Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010
Started taper of Adderall, Wellbutrin XL, Remeron, and Doxepin in 2006
Finished taper on June 10, 2010

Temazepam on a PRN basis approximately twice a month - 2014 to 2016

Beginning in 2017 - Consumption increased to about two times per week

April 2017 - Increased to taking it full time for insomnia

compsports, I was concerned about the preparation required after all I'd heard from others and read online.

My experience of the preparation was that it was mildly uncomfortable. I didn't like the sensations of urgently needing to use "the facilities" but it was manageable. Like most people, I planned for a night at home, not a night "out on the town."  The few times I've had food- or water-based infections that caused diarrhea were much, much worse than colonoscopy prep.

As for the MoviPrep itself, I'd never order it as a menu item but I wouldn't refuse a future colonoscopy because of the laxative or its effects.

The pills are intended to create the same effect -- clearing the colon so that the lining is visible for examination. So you may not have the taste & texture issues to deal with but you'd still have the experience of urgently needing the toilet.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Sorry I wasn't clear SW.   From what I have read, some preps seem to be more "tolerable" than others.   That is the reason for my question.

I will have my colonoscopy on 21st March with MoviPrep...I agreed...They want to sedate me as well...I think I will agree as well, as it was not really pleasant when I had endoscopy with no sedation...

I discussed other preparation methods with doctor, all of them have side-effects...

- 12.03.2021- doxepin- 50mg

- 6.11.2020- 75mg

- 16.10.2020- 100mg

- 30.09.2020- doxepin- 125mg

- May 2020, omeprazole 40mg switched to esomeprazole 20mg

- 2012 re-started Doxepin 75mg, evening. Increased to 150mg

- 2012, Atenolol 25mg, twice a day

- 2016, Low dose of HRT in evening, Sandrena and Utrogestan

- Long term of Nasal spray Otrivine

- 2012, PPI Omeprazole 40mg-evening

24.10.2014- Started ESCITALOPRAM-first 5mg and then 10mg; due to the adverse symptoms reduced on 5.01.2015- Escitalopram- 2.5mg 22.07.2016- re-started reduction by 1% at a time. Completed tappering on  19.03.2020 😇

Thanks Ikam.  Mine is three days after yours on the 24th.

Going to ask the doc about doing a gradual clearing out over 6 days based on the book, "The Gentle Colonoscopy."   But he may balk not being familiar with the protocol.

Regarding sedation, he recommended going with propofol which initially seemed fine since I have never had problems with it.   But because I read the chances of complications are greater with this, I might go with a Fentanyl only sedation.

Hello, @Ариэль!

Did you also do colonoscopy? I also need to do it and I'm terribly afraid of it. How did everything go for you? Did you do it under medical sleep or not?

2019-2020 fluoxetine due to anxiety disorder (1 capsule per day), withdrawal without WD.

2021- 1 month of Atarax in a daily dosage of 25 mg + symptomatically for a year 1/4 of 25 mg (approximately once a month).

2023 - severe stress, Atarax symptomatically 1/2 of 25 mg (approximately once a month / once a week). Velaxine (min. dosage 1 day) pronounced side effect in the form of an uncontrolled panic attack, withdrawal.

February 2024 - Zoloft (+ Atarax 1.5 months in a dosage of 1/2 25 mg to 50 mg at a time almost every day) with a gradual increase once a week to 75 mg, constant headache, tremor, anxiety, poor eyesight. Then reduce the dose for 3 weeks to 0 mg.

April 2024 - On the 10th day after complete abstinence, derealization, depression, panic attacks, headache, blurred vision, fog in the head, delirium. April 2024 - about once every three days, Atarax 25 mg, slightly relieved the symptoms, then I did not understand what was wrong with me.

MY PROGRESS: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FeyWn2cUXt8UGRp0th2-hMbfjJBzb2PU6Xyg2HcKy_4/edit

MY SYMPTOMS: derealization +; wave extreme depression + ; nausea +/- ; loss of appetite +/- ;

insomnia; weakness in the hands; panic attacks; paresthesia; anxiety; blurred vision; pictures before going to bed; morning cortisol awakenings
