Arc1990 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Sorry if you're posting this in the wrong place, I'm new here, I'm not fluent in English either. Please do not consider possible errors. I used clonazepam for three years, I tried to quit this twice and it was absolutely horrible experiences. I would like to understand how to do this safely, I was directed to this forum via Facebook, they said that I could get help here and that a moderator could give me access to benzobuddies. I can not sign up for benzobuddies. All email I submit for registration counts as invalid. My question is mainly aimed at understanding how I can measure the 10% decrease from previous dosage. When I heard that the correct thing would be to reduce the dose to 10% per month, I figured it was 10% of the initial dose. I use 20 drops of liquid clonazepam, how can I measure 10% of 18 drops? Is not that impossible?
Moderator Emeritus scallywag Posted June 26, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) Arc -- Welcome to Surviving Antidepressants (SA) You're very smart to be doing research before starting to decrease your dose of medication. You may wish to start a topic in our Members-only benzo forum where the moderators are more familiar with benzodiazepine medications and withdrawal. I'm not sure if 10% decreases are a recommended approach for tapering off benzodiazepine medication. We have an information topic about the recommendations of Dr. Heather Ashton, the doctor who first developed sane and safe tapering for benzos, and the subsequent changes to her initial protocols here: Ashton and beyond in benzo tapering If 10% decreases are the way you choose to taper, one relatively simple way to get the 90% next dose (10% decrease) would be to dilute the drops. It's easy to do for the decrease from 18 drops to 16.2 -- put the drops into 10 ml water and then take 9 ml. After that decrease, one or two more calculations are needed. Next decrease is to 14.6 drops. Put one drop in 10 ml of water, take 6 ml of the solution (0.6 drops) PLUS take 14 drops from the bottle. If you need assistance with math, please let us know. There are some of us here that are happy to help. Edited June 26, 2017 by scallywag This is not medical advice. nz11 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Arc any update? Thought for the day: Lets stand up, and let’s speak out , together. G Olsen We have until the 14th. Feb 2018. URGENT REQUEST Please consider submitting for the petition on Prescribed Drug Dependence and Withdrawal currently awaiting its third consideration at the Scottish Parliament. You don't even have to be from Scotland. By clicking on the link below you can read some of the previous submissions but be warned many of them are quite harrowing. http://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01651 Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos. Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Tell them if you wish to remain anonymous. We need the numbers to help convince the committee members we are not isolated cases. You have until mid February. Thank you Recovering paxil addict None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013. This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality! "Every time I read of a multi-person shooting, I always presume that person had just started a SSRI or had just stopped." Dr Mosher. Me too! Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015 I believe the ssri era will soon stand as one of the most shameful in the history of medicine.
