MaryJane Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 I am 77 and wondered how being older affects withdrawal. Its 8 months since I took last dose of Prozac (after a very long slow taper)and I still have withdrawal symptoms.. Unsure what might be just normal ageing rather than withdrawal.
MaryJane Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 I am 77 years old and not sure what seem like lingering withdrawal symptoms might be due to ageing instead
Moderator Emeritus ChessieCat Posted March 9, 2018 Moderator Emeritus Posted March 9, 2018 Hi MaryJane and welcome to SA, I have a similar problem to you trying to work out what is withdrawal and what is ageing. I'm 60, have been on an antidepressant for 25 years and started tapering 2.5 years ago. If you are taking 2 or more of any type of drugs we suggest that you use the Drug Interactions Checker We ask all members to create a drug signature. This allows us to see your history at a glance whenever you make a post. This is the preferred format which makes it easier for us to see your drug history at a glance: A request: Would you summarize your history in a signature - ALL drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements, in the last 12-24 months particularly? Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses. A list is easier to understand than one or multiple paragraphs. Any drugs prior to 24 months ago can just be listed with start and stop years. Please use actual dates or approximate dates (mid-June, Late October) rather than relative time frames (last week, 3 months ago) Spell out months, e.g. "October" or "Oct."; 9/1/2016 can be interpreted as Jan. 9, 2016 or Sept. 1, 2016. RedRobin123 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I am over 70 and worried that I will never experience a normal life again. I am weaning off of Abilify and going very slow. I am having problems just getting out of bed in the morning. Some days I don’t even get dressed. My legs are very weak and barely able to get around the house. Will some of this improve as more of the drug gets out of my system. I am hoping there will be some improvement as I continue the taper. The Abilify took my life. Moderator Emeritus Gridley Posted March 13, 2018 Moderator Emeritus Posted March 13, 2018 Yes, it will improve with time and as your taper continues. Sometimes it's more time than we anticipated or would like, but it will improve. We're on different drugs, but I am feeling better and better as my dosage decreases. Many of us here are seniors. Please put in your signature when you started tapering Abilify, the dosage you started at, and the rate of your taper. Here is the link to your signature.
