BaronVA: Want to taper from Zoloft, but have other health problems

Hi all.

So I've been on 50mg of Zoloft for around 10 years with a couple breaks.

I want to start a slow taper, but I'm very worried. My physical health is in the gutter as I'm in the process of healing 3 autoimmune problems, all of which are related to each other and will no doubt be affected by the taper.

For someone who needs to avoid withdrawal symptoms as much as humanly possible so he can keep his job, would the 2.5% taper be a safe bet?

Hi BaronVA and welcome to SA,

SA's recommended taper method is 10% of the current dose followed by a hold of about 4 weeks to allow the brain to adapt to not getting as much of the drug.  This is a harm reduction method which seems to work well for many people.  However, there are members who have found that they need to taper more slowly.  BrassMonkey devised his own taper plan.  I'll give the links to the different types:

Micro-taper instead of 10% or 5% decreases
