It's really important to note how you feel before and after you take the citalopram. It will take at least 4-7 days to reach full effect.

Can u just explain a little more about reinstatement. If i feel better from it, I will stay on it a bit to stabilize and give my nervous system time to repair because I went off meds to quick, correct?. This doesnt necessarily mean my healing is going to be longer ? And after a week reinstating i will decide on what to do from there? Thanks

You will need a few months to stabilize.

One week is no where near enough time.

It does NOT mean Your healing will be longer. You may heal quicker with less stress on Your nervous system.

But that is a long term healing goal.

Did I harm my nervous system by going ct in September?  Can it be totally healed? Why do some people decide not to reinstate ? What are the risks ? Getting a little scared tonight?

Yes, the symptoms are a sign that Your nervous system is in distress and has suffered some "harm".

No one can say whether it will be fully healed, but my personal opinion is that anyone who suffers serious symptoms does not completely heal, but can come close.

It depends on how responsible we are with the rest of Our tapering.

If we continue to be reckless we do more repeated damage with "kindling".

The risks depend on the medication, the persons former drug history and how responsible they have been tapering.

Some do not reinstate if they think their symptoms are not too bad, or if they don't want to properly spend the correct amount of time tapering.

It is probably wiser NOT to reinstate if You are only going to go cold turkey again within another month.

Each time we go on and off we risk further damage or a negative reaction.

It's important to commit to doing the reinstatement correctly to get the full benefit and to not do more harm to yourself.

I didnt know ..my doctor didnt tell me to give it time.. I will stay on the reinstate til i need to 3 months or longer. I had all the serious symptoms..i was following a vitamin company that kept telling me it would get better. They where saying my symptoms where the chemicals in my body i just needed to get them out by protein shakes and amino acids and it wasnt getting better.  I see now they didnt know what they where doing and I paid for it. Angry about that. They shouldnt be in business. Thanks

Hey @Colonial when you say your personally think people with serious symptoms don’t fully heal it just makes me think I’m gunna have this for the rest of my life. Are you saying that regardless of how much I heal, I probably won’t ever feel tired again? That’s what gets me.

Sorry not to take over the thread.

also @Ella56 what made you reinstate if you don’t mind me asking? Was it the same Insomnia or the terror feeling? I had the terror feeling for about three weeks almost but now it’s just normal anxiety of “will I ever get better”.  How do you feel right now?

Example:

2018 - Started Effexor 37.5 in Janurary of 2018
2019 January, 2nd  - Cold Turkeyed from Effexor for 3 days. Reinstated on the third day, then stabilized(It took 3 months to stabilize)

2019 June - I switched from Effexor instant release to Extended Release 37.5 for better tapering. I tapered to 50% in 4 weeks before reinstating my dosage back to 37.5(due to withdrawls). I waited 2 months to stabilize but never did at 37.5

2019 September - continued to taper in to 25% on extended release

2019 October - continued to taper to half of the beads(18.75mg)... WIthdrawls were so bad I tried switching back to the instant release at the same dosage(18.75mg)

2019 November 28th - Discontinued effexor at 18.75 without anymore tapering.

2020 January - Just can't sleep, have constipation, low libido and still lack of full emotion

Rozon1 .i reinstated because my symptoms where horrific and yes terror also and going on for months.i just found this site and realized it was symptoms from ct and found out i had an option and hoping it makes it better. I need a few more days to tell if it is working. I would never of gone through this if i would of tapered, I believe.  Also, because i decided it could help my nervous system heal because I realized, from the info here,  that the symptoms I was having was because my nervous system was in serious distress.

Your nervous system is not made of rubber. If you injure your knee, it will take some time to heal up. If you injure it over and over, it will take longer to heal. Same with your nervous system, except it takes much longer to heal than a knee, it's more complicated.

Cold turkey is a much more serious injury to your nervous system than a bruise is to your knee.

Reinstatement is a way to "do over" the part of your taper you didn't do the first time around. It can relieve the withdrawal symptoms, sometimes completely.

Otherwise, we don't know how long you will have withdrawal syndrome. It could be for a very long time. Would you rather have severe symptoms for a long time or tolerable symptoms? Your choice.

In the meantime, many people find fish oil and magnesium supplements helpful, see

@Ella56 my symptoms are more physical. Insomnia and never feeling at ease. Did it just get worse over time or did you see any signs of relief?

@Ella56 my symptoms are more physical. Insomnia and never feeling at ease. Did it just get worse over time or did you see any signs of relief?

It was bad for months but i was on a vitamin program with a company that said they knew how to help me. I went through it alone..i dont know how i made it.  I see signs of relief now it has been six months. I went through the nightmare intense emotional pain. Driving crazy, suicidal, hospital twice. If i would of known would of reinstated sooner but i have been on meds 20 years celexa, ativan, clonazepam etc. I finally found out about this site from a lady on Irene Lyons site..healing the nervous system. It takes time..you will heal..do u take omegas? I have read on here omegas and vit e.

Age 21 started on antidepressants, Paxil, Zoloft cant remember dozes.

Most I remember is being on Celexa 10 - 40 mg since 1996 to 2019 up and down.

Changed to Pristiq March 2019 to May 2019 lowest doze but quit scared ot it.

Went back to Celexa 20mg may 2019 to sept 2019.Tried Cipralex, 3 days,

Went off celexa 20 mg Sept 16/19 taper 1 month.

Took Ativan .5 to 1 mg on and off for years and some Clonazepam for anxiety.

Ativan in dec 2019 about 10 and in jan 2019. .05mg.

Brain zaps  Agitation, terror and dread, suicidal feelings, stomach in fear. afraid to be alone. Depression

Now: feeling disconnected from self and inability to connect with others, anxiety, depression,.emotionally weak and helplesd, ringing in my ears.

Feb 25, 2020 reinstated 1mg celexa.

@Ella56 you didn’t get relief from your terror? Like it didn’t get better overtime?

@AltostrataI need to add some info on my meds. Last April when i was trying pristiq for 2 months and then trintellix 1 month. I am teying to get things straight. i did because i didnt think celexa was working  i dont think celexa worked for me for a long time but didnt do anything. I dont know if this info matters on my reinstatement. I also took clonazepam but infrequent. I took ativan the most for infrequent also for years. I look back at this and think why..did i not question these meds and go off sooner. I was under lots of major stress for the last ten years. I still am and in therapy. When i was on celexa i went up and down depending what was going on in my life and wondering if i hurt myself from that.

How did you switch from Celexa to Pristiq?

How did you feel while you were taking Pristiq? Were you also using a benzo at the same time you were taking Pristiq? What effect did the benzo have on you? How often did you take it?

I do not see the Trintellix anywhere on your med list.

If the reason you stopped had nothing to do with an adverse reaction I don't believe it's relevant.

You aren't reinstating because the Celexa "worked", your doing it to see if it will help the WD Symptoms.

Can you please add the dose amount of the Cipralex you "tried" for 3 days this month? And the Trintellex dates and dosage?

At least I "think" it was this month, you wrote: Celexa may 2019 to oct 2019. Tried cipralex for 3 days feb 1 to 3 this year.

Your drug history is vague and not in chronological order and it makes it difficult to spot "clues" to Your symptoms.

That is more relevant to understanding how well Your reinstatement goes (because it was so recent), than why you took something a year ago.

If you took large dosages of the cipralex for 3 days,  this calendar year, that may impact your reinstatement.

That along with the 20 Ativan over the past 90 days.

If Your going to continue to take the Ativan PRN, You need to keep a chart of that as well, as well as any "symptoms" that occur around those dosages.

I only took benzos once in awhile ..5 maybe a month at most. I cant remember why i though pristiq wasnt good either. When i first started it gave me energy. Was afraid of what i had heard of how hard it was to get off. Not thinking celexa would be. I might of taken ativan. Usually ativan prescription of 10 lasted me months. But took a few more maybe in 2019 because of a major loss. I qas a fraid to get addicted to it

You did not post that the reason you stopped both the Cipralex and the Trinlellex was because you "thought" it was making you sick.

That's important.

But posting it in the thread doesn't help, you need to add them to your drug history in your signature line.

I assume you mean you took 10mg of Cipralex 3 days in a row, if so add that to your drug line, as well as the amount you took of the Trinlellex .

I switched by going to 5mg on celexa then took pristiq and when i switched back took pristiq every other day then went back on celexa. I never took any ativan with pristiq because i didnt have anxiety. I only ever took .5mg ativan. I havent taken it since feb. Took 10 in Dec and some in jan cant remember but not much at all sept 2019 til dec 2020. Ativan helped anxiety a bit. I think now i always had some anxiety with celexa.

Why did you go off Pristiq? How long did you take it every other day? How did you feel when you were taking Trintillex? How did you feel when you went back on Celexa?

I think i was ok on pristiq..one reason i went off was my niece said it was hard to get off and there was another..i cant remember what though..maybe i just felt ADs werent the answer by then and wasted my life on then. But my life was always stressful so didnt make changes. Pristiq I went off it every other day for a week or so and also I broke it in half too ...so i went down 1 week of half doze and one week every over day.. I didnt like trintellex i think stomach. Was not long on that 1 week i think. I felt the same when i went back on celexa as i always did.. never very good and always anxiety but was use to it. Just realizing all these things now. I guess that is why i tried others. I got by with celexa by taking ativan once in awhile over the years.

@Ella56 how do you feel now? just going to keep updated on your reinstatement story only because I might reinstate soon myself.

Would be interesting to know if the length of delay in re instating either delays the amount of time needed for relief to begin...

Or mitigate how much assistance it is.

I think Celexa wasnt working for me when i took it ..maybe poop out??..i dont know but i had to take Ativan for anxiety. Pristiq i only used a short time. I dont know what to do now. I dont think taking Ativan would be good? I wanted to do something to help my nervous system with the reinstate. Will put my daily notes in. Thank you for your help.

I never really got a good handle on what "poop out" means.

I know it's MORE than it stops working, it also has to do with it giving You negative effects as well.

I'm just not sure how that's different, categorically, from an adverse reaction, other than how long it took to manifest.

Well, if the reinstate helps, it will hopefully level out the anxiety some.

Did you try the Epsom salt baths?  They always helped Me.

Did you really read through, carefully, the sections on "self care" for anxiety?

I know its a lot of material, but it's good to look into.

Other than what is in those articles, there really isn't any other advice anyone here can give you, other than wait it out a few weeks...

And then see where You are at the 1 month mark.

Unless the re instate makes you significantly worse, we just have to wait.

@Ella56 I almsot wonder if you're not on a high enough dosage. Just stick to this dosage for 7 days and see how it goes like Alto said. Then from there, you can ask them what to do. That's why I'm afraid to reinstate, simply, because if it has no effect on me, do I go up or stay there. Or just get off and let my body do its thing

The Mods generally know what's the best dose.

It's too early to be double guessing.

And Rozon's fear is something You have to be squared away with before You reinstate.

There's no point reinstating if your not going to commit to it.

You just end up doing more harm to take it again for a week or 2 and then quit again without just cause.
