Greatful: Is this withdrawal or too many med changes at once?

I’ve only been on SA since late June ish but I’m starting to see more and more how important support between members is. I was wondering what you were referring to when you were talking about submitting paperwork for work now I see what you’re doing. Sometimes something’s gotta give. When you say everything broke loose in November you mean drug wise?

History of depression and anxiety. Symptoms of PTSD. 1998-1999 Venlafaxine 2006-2007 Prozac.2013-15 Sertraline 50mg. 2015 cross-tapered to citalopram 20mg. 2015-2021 Citalopram 20mg (brief increase to 30mg for 2/3 months in 2019. 01/2021 Dropped from 20mg to 10mg, back up to 20mg til June. 25/6/21 stopped CT. Started 50mg 5htp after a week without citalopram in the hope this would balance out my serotonin levels. After 3 days increased to 100mg 5htp. 11/7/21 Stopped 5htp with the intention of reinstating citalopram at 1mg. 16/7/21 Reinstated cit at 1mg. 2/8/21 Increased dose to 2mg. 28/11/21 10% reduction to 1.8mg.

8/12/21 2mg 6/1/22 1.8mg 10/2/22 1.6mg 13/5/22 1.5mg 4/6/22 1.55mg 4/7/22 1.4mg 4/8/22 1.25mg 1/11/22 1.1mg 3/3/23 1mg 18/4/23 0.9mg 2/6/23 0.8mg 4/10/23 0.7mg 11/11/23 jumped off @0.7mg started on 5htp 200mg -400mg, L-Theanine, and L-tyrosine 200mg. 25/11/23 came off 5-htp, l-tyrosine and l-Theanine. 24/12/23 went on 7.5mg mirtazapine. 27/12/23 stopped mirtazapine & reinstated citalopram @.35mg. 1/1/24 increased to 0.5mg. PTSD diagnosis October 2023. 11/11/23 started EMDR therapy for PTSD. Multiple unsuccessful attempts to taper off citalopram. Vegan, otherwise healthy lifestyle. Other medications; tapering off combined HRT. Other supplements; magnesium glycinate, vegan omega3. Completely OFF caffeine (since July 21). Finding it difficult to completely give up alcohol but haven’t had any since 25/12/23. Main symptoms; crushing depression, anhedonia/emotional anesthesia, irritability, rage, anxiety/fear, intrusive thoughts, cognitive fog, inability to focus, restlessness and some insomnia

@Kat66  It is hard to remember what all went on when....I was crashing the end of November and because my doctor and I didn't know what we were doing, we started Zoloft in December. I think I was still on 3mg Prozac,  we should have upped the Prozac a little.  Zoloft didn't work, so on the drug merry- go-round nightmare....

The sad thing is I had joined SA back in November, but for some reason I must not have explored it.  I didn't even do a introductory,  I just joined and forgot about it I guess.  Just think of all the mistakes that could have been avoided....

@Greatful

First, I’m so sorry for not getting back to you sooner.  I’ve been slow at doing anything lately. Please forgive me.

Before I address tapering Lexapro.. I need advice on moving my Lexapro form noon to take it with my 8am with my  Lamictal and other supplements.   I am on some many different times taking meds....7-am Xanax 8-am Lamictal and supplements 12-pm Lexapro

8:30-pm Xanax  9:30- pm Trazadone and melatonin and Magn. Omega 3 L Theanine throughout the day.  I forgot my Lexapro yesterday, I didn't notice it until 8:30pm, I decided to wait until today to take it, so I took it at 10-am instead of waiting until noon.  So I went  22 hours without taking it.  I would like to slowly over the next few days  move it to take at 8 am.  I just need to know if there is any reason I can't take it at the same time as the Lamictal?  I am feeling a little bump with the 1 day missing it.  I also metabolize it quickly.  How long do you think it will take to adjust to this little miss hap.  My brain is quite worked up.

I would just take your lexapro an hour early everyday until you reach the time you want to stick to. I can understand missing a dose, I did that a few times until I started setting alarms in my phone to remind myself. Maybe you could do that? I checked I interactions and all I found is that it can lower your sodium, so just watch for that. You might read the drug interactions for yourself just to make sure😊

I dropped the Xanax fast in May, but you and I adjusted the dosing times the first week in July.  I think I am having some wd from it still.

Over all I am slowly seeing some  improvements.  Still have a lot of confusion and disconnected thinking that comes and goes. 20% better.  I have a lot of underlining panic 75% of the time. I think I have some akathisia, underlining restlessness.  Arm and leg weakness, electricity running lightly through my body. shakey numbness on my face mostly on left side. Left eye too.

That’s natural to have wd symptoms from the Xanax. It can take quite a while for your body to adjust unfortunately. It’s great that you are 20% better than you were. You’ve only been on this dose for a good month now. That’s a good sign your body is accepting this dose.

My brain is the most trouble some.  I don't have a sudden zap but a numbing tingling sensation that can feel like electricity in my brain.

That is very normal to have that symptom. Do you have it all the time? I remember having that exact feeling a lot. I feel for you. But just know, it will go away. Wish I could tell you when.

On 8/20/2021 at 4:07 PM, Greatful said:

This is what I am talking about. When I get really over stimulated my brain symptoms get worse.

I am just wondering if the Lexapro is increasing my panic, underlining anxiety restlessness. Quite a bit I will feel l so intense, panicky and my brain will be very intense.  I feel like I have to bolt and take off.

I am so sorry to put all this to you,  so many different things can be contributing to my symptoms.   I could go on and on but I will stop and if you have any questions just ask☺️

Don’t ever apologize for asking questions. I’m glad to answer any that I can. Lexapro did cause panic for me, but I was on

3-4 mg of Xanax so it combated my Lexapro anxiety. It can indeed cause restlessness also. I found a weighted blanket helped me a lot. I still use it.

I’m not an expert, but if I were you, I’d hold another good month or so after you move the Lexapro to the time you want to keep it at. Let your body get used to that time frame. If it “agrees” with you after a month, I think you could try a small reduction (maybe 2.5%) and see how you react. As I think I said, Lexapro is harder to get off of the smaller the dose you take.

Let me know if I can help you anymore.

Hope you feel better very soon😊

Take care,

I love my weighted blanket... I carried it around from room to room last winter.  I can say, I felt a little relief when I was under it.

I will reach out to you when I feel like I can move ahead on the taper....

This is a tuff journey we are on.😢

Update:

I had my second appt. with my new psychiatrist.  It went okay, not sure if she understood all the WD symptoms.  I told her I think I am in PAWS she didn't know that what that meant...I am not sure if she didn't understand the acronym or what PAWS is....She is willing to work with me and prescribe the meds.  She did mention that I am a fast metabolize for my Lexapro and Lamictal and said that might be part of the problem.  Not sure what she meant by that.....She agreed that I should not make any changes right now.

So onward we go..............

@Greatful that is good news , to have someone to do what you want and support you though your tapering is great . Unfortunately it goes against what they’ve been taught about these drugs . The psychiatry profession wouldn’t  exist if they didn’t believe in the chemical imbalance theory and all the drugs they subscribe, all there good for is writing scripts and they get good money to do that . I personally think the whole profession should be abolished.

  • 1995 started Paxil 20mg slowly increasing to 50mg 2014 I decided to tapper myself not knowing how too and crashed , DR added 50mg of Seroquel

  • Through the years made many mistakes tapering

  • Started Tapering Both drugs at the same time 7.5% per month Paxil 9% Seroquel doing daily micro-taper

  • Guided by Mark Horowitz

  • 31/3/24 Paxil 10.31mg

  • 31/3/24 Seroquel 9.9mg

You don't know how hard it was to not bring up SA.  I keep referring to " I have been doing research and  learning about what is happening to me." How I learned that I was taking the xanax wrong and needed to split it up throughout the day to maintain a steady dose."  I don't think it would have gone over very well if I said I was getting my advice on how to take my meds for SA.

You know I would have loved to let out a lot of my thoughts, but I kept it as close to my chest as I could.......

She did mention that I am a fast metabolize for my Lexapro and Lamictal and said that might be part of the problem.  Not sure what she meant by that.....

I'm glad you had a good session with this doctor, @Greatful.  I hope it puts your mind somewhat more at ease.  Good thing also, that you're questioning.

I don’t think I could’ve held back, I keep on thinking about the first psychiatrist that CT of Paxil after being in it for 20 years and then told me what I was going through was my underlying illness, I kept telling him I have never felt like that in my entire life and he made me think there was something seriously wrong with me, he then tried me on 4 different drugs . I was so bad at one stage that I thought the only option for me was to jump off a building to end the pain but I couldn’t do that because  I loved  my kids and life too much . I was just so lucky I did my own research and found SA. I will never see a psychiatrist again, that should’ve never if happened to me and everyone else. It breaks my heart that we all had to suffer in the hands of psychiatry.
I pray to God that one day the medical profession can support us.

@Cheeky  Hi thanks for stopping by.  Rough morning.  I feel like I am in a transition stage.

I sometimes feel like part of me is coming back but then I still have so many WD symptoms.

Like my thoughts and brain are partly clear,  I have one leg over the line in recovery,  Some normalcy but I am still forced to feel like crap... I have been feeling really panicky,  maybe a little akathisia I got to run or bolt or sometimes like I am drowning or swimming up stream.  The funny thing is I don't feel like I can't breath, just that I am being sucked under. I do feel like I am panting a lot.  Did you ever feel like this?

When you get these weird symptoms you can believe WD can make you feel so crazy.  You question can this really be from WD.  It makes me so frustrated,  I told my husband can you give my a push so I go over the line...........

Did you have a good day😚

I know you are going to bed now, sleep well😴

Hi Greatful, just wanted to say hi. I was reading through your thread yesterday and wow you've been through so much! Thank you for sharing with us and interacting despite all the stuff that is going on. The strength you show is inspiring.

Also, now I understand why you're so hesitant to start the tapering again. Sounds like perhaps it's good to hold off for awhile longer. I know it's so hard to be patient.

2017 Oct sertraline | Nov switched to escitalopram 10mg | 2018 Apr escitalopram fast taper (4-8 weeks) to zero/off

2018 Nov restarted escitalopram, increased to 20mg | 2020 Jan escitalopram fast taper (2-3 months) to zero/off

2020 Aug 27 restarted escitalopram 10mg tablet, came across SA.org

2021 Feb 27 complete switch to liquid 9.8mg | Mar 7 decreased to 9.5mg | Mar 14 decreased to 9.3mg | Mar 21 decreased to 9.0mg | Apr 11 decreased to 8.8mg | Apr 18 decreased to 8.6mg | May 9 decreased to 8.3mg | May 16 decreased to 8.1mg | Jun 6 increased to 9.0mg | July 18 decreased to 8.6mg | Aug 15 decreased to 8.2mg | Sept 19 decreased to 8.0mg | Oct 21 decreased to 7.6mg | Nov 18 decreased to 7.2mg | Dec 16 decreased to 6.9mg

2022 Feb 27 decreased to 6.8mg | Mar 31 decreased to 6.4mg | Jul 5 decreased to 6.1mg | Jul 23 decreased to 5.8mg | Aug 10 increased to 6.0mg | Nov 24 decreased to 5.4mg | Dec 31 decreased to 4.8mg

2023 Feb 1 decreased to 4.4mg | May 17 decreased to 4mg | Jul 6 decreased to 3.8mg | Jul 19 decreased to 3.6 | Aug 11 decreased to 3.2mg | Sept 9 decreased to 3.0mg | Sept 22 decreased to 2.7mg | Oct 24 increased to 2.775mg | Nov 12 decreased to 2.7mg | Dec 20 increased to 3.0mg

I hold for longer periods of time when life gets stressful, usually work related.

@Go2zero I saw you were helping colton and you were able to tell him the sert for Pozac, I was wondering if I could ask you to figure out the sert for 5mg Lexapro?

I hope to start tapering in the near future and I am curious how potent it is at this level.

I also want to Thank you for taking your time and being a moderator. All the moderators  here on SA are helping so many people who would be lost with out your kind and caring hearts.

@purpleThank you  for stopping by.  I really appreciate it.  Ever bit of encouragement is needed for us when we are on this journey.    We really do get put through the wringer.  When the times get tough, then the fear and panic show up.  It is crazy how many of us are going through the same pain and misery, all over the world.  We are in this together.  SA is one big life raft.

Thank you for your kind words😚

@Cheeky  It is really a bummer that women have to endure the hormonal garbage too....

You might have a small set back but you'll bounce back in no time.  As for the mind games, just plain torcher some days.

@Cheeky  It is really a bummer that women have to endure the hormonal garbage too....

You might have a small set back but you'll bounce back in no time.  As for the mind games, just plain torcher some days.

How can our brains think so differently while in a wave and then different in a window. It’s just so crazy

Happy to be on this big life raft with you!

I believe you were the one who educated me on the omega-3 and how the Costco/Kirkland brand had way too little in them. Did you notice any difference with switching to a different brand? Thank you :)

I hope to start tapering in the near future and I am curious how potent it is at this level.

I also want to Thank you for taking your time and being a moderator. All the moderators  here on SA are helping so many people who would be lost with out your kind and caring hearts.

Well I thought I was ready enough to  go away for a long weekend with some of our children and grandchildren.  Well it proved I was not ready for such a big adventure. So much stimulation, all my coping skill went out the window. Panic kept growing, I finally couldn't take it anymore and went into a huge melt down this morning and packed up and left early.  All I could think about is I have to get out of here. I feel so sad that I wasn't strong enough to get through it.  Now I am a mess, way over stimulated. I am so sad that I am so deep into WD that I couldn't stay.

What is the verdict is this going to turn it to a wave?

Please tell there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel!

I can't believe people can feel so awful.

@Greatful So sorry to hear your struggling but it's understandable under the circumstances.  You're anything but weak, you've helped so many people on here (and I'm sure in real life too) even though you're going through withdrawal yourself.  You should congratulate yourself for coming this far.  I don't know if you're going into a wave but I am sure there is light at the end of the tunnel, it will just take time.  Do you practice meditation or mindfulness, I find it helps me (apart from when I really need it and then it's so hard to do!)   Just hang on in there and hope that tomorrow brings a better day.

@GreatfulI’m so sorry. I think you’re right though, it just wasn’t the right time for you to go away. You have been doing a lot lately and that may have contributed to this. This has absolutely nothing to do with how strong or courageous you are, never forget how strong you are. You are seriously my inspiration and I couldn’t be more proud of you 💖

Sometimes these symptoms can just kick our butt no matter what we do. It’s okay. Just give yourself a lot of rest and quiet and you will be just fine. I honestly don’t believe this will put you in a wave.

Do you have a diffuser you can put in your bedroom?

Completely drug free 11/26/22 🎉

Hi @Grateful, so sorry your feeling awful. You are not alone! I currently am on vacation as well. We drive from California to Las Vegas every summer (August) to celebrate a bunch of August bdays in our family. This year and last year sucked terribly. I was in bad shape last year in wd and in bad shape this year. Luckily I have my own air bnb rental that I can stay at and be alone. I have just been faking it to make it this whole time. I even get scared sleeping at night being by myself and knowing I am far from my home. Its hard looking at everyone in my family enjoying themselves and here I am deep inside battling physical symptoms and racing intrusive thoughts. I even had to take half a tablet of my emergency clonazepam one day so that I can get through the day.

Hang in there, I am with you in spirit!

I really hope that one day I will be free of this med and healed and actually be present and enjoy my vacation with family.

It triggers and saddens me that there is separate compartment in my luggage with all my shaved off pills and pill box. I hate seeing it and knowing that its going to control my life for now.

Thankfully tonight is our last night, we have been here since Tuesday, tomorrow we head back out. I have so many emotions going on. Part of me is relieved that we are going back home, but part of me is so depressed that I did not fully enjoy the love and fun my family has. They have no idea that I am just faking it.

Jan 2012 started 50mg Zoloft for mild depression.        2014 increased Zoloft to 100mg

2015 poop out of Zoloft. Started  Lexapro. Bad start effects, only a month on it. Then onto Effexor a month, bad start up effects. Then Prozac, had bad start up effects (serotonin syndrome).  Added anti-psychotic Risperadal, too strong, drooling from the mouth.

2016 on different SSRIs, do not remember, on Effexor for about 1 month, quit cold turkey 2017. Lasted 2 months.

April 2017 back on Zoloft 200mg.    May 2019 switched to Lexapro 30mg.   Oct 2019 switched to Paxil 40mg

September 2020 on Lexapro 20mg and Paxil 9mg.

December 2020 Lexapro 20mg  Paxil 8.82 (Tapering Paxil first by 2% drops every 4-6 weeks or until I feel stable to decrease)

Jan 2021 Lexapro 20mg Paxil 8.6mg

Mar 2021 Lexapro 18mg Paxil 8.8mg

May 2021 Prozac Bridge Attempt.

June 2021 Successfully eliminated Lexapro. Currently holding @ 8mg Prozac & 8.82mg Paxil. Waiting to adjust, and stabilize, then will proceed to cut Paxil.
