Hey my name is Omar. This all start back at the end of august early september. I was working to many long hours and started having panic attacks and was vomitting and had severe anxiety out of no where, Constantly crying and was overall depressed out of the blue. Looking back at it i now know it was a nervous breakdown and would have resolved itself within a couple of week. Stupidly I decided to go to the doctor and I was prescribed Klonopin for 20 days at 0.5mg. All hell broke lose when i stopped taking it. I had no idea where I was or Who I was and I had extremely intense Akathasia and 100 other symptoms. I toughed it out for 12 days and it had gotten to the point where my feet where bleeding and I couldnt sit and I hadnt have slept for 3-7 days. I was checked into the pych ward. I spent the next 6 weeks pacing in there and crying from extreme pain. The doctors gave me seroquel and trazadone which basiclly did nothing but I was desperate.

After getting out of the hospital the akathasia went away after 2 weeks, and it is just restlessness now. I was on 100mg of seroquel and 50mg of trazadone. I tapered them both down over the course of a week and then cold turkeyed thinking it would be nothing like benzo withdrawls. I spent the next week in hell and reinstated the seroquel. Luckily I am free of trazadone. I spent the next 2 weeks taping down to 6.5mg of seroquel and went off after a week of 6.5 and the first 4 days where bearable with nausea and overall horrible feeling. On the 5th day all hell broke loose with akathaisa and it felt like I was right back into the benzo withdrawl plus the extreme nausea and stomach pain. I reinstated yesterday at 25mg and the last 24 hours have been hell but I am starting to feel better. Im feeling extremely hopless right now. Im 23 years old and I moved back into my parents house and my mom is nursing me through this. How is it possible to be having these intense of reactions after short term use. I cant go back to the hospital because they will trade one problem for another. Im scared that il never be able to get off 25mg of seroquel eventhough I have only been taking it for 2.5 months. I am down from 100 the first 75mg of tapers where easy the last 25 is where all hell started to break loose.

I dont know if my body isnt fully healed from the benzowithdrawl because its only been 2 months, but I am 80% healed. That seroroquel cold turkey was on par with the benzi withdrawl in terms akathasia, and the confusion was insane I woke up in the middle of the night in extreme pain and didnt know who I was or anything.

Hi Omar,

welcome to Surviving Antidepressants. It looks like you have been dealing with serious withdrawal issues from both klonopin and  seroquel. I am so sorry you have been suffering so badly.

Can you please create a signature so we can understand your history in an easier way?  It helps us have a quick glance at the changes and be able to advise you quickly. Here are some instructions:

How to List Drug History in Signature - Introductions and updates - Surviving Antidepressants

Seems like you have reinstated seroquel now. How is that working? We are generally advising reinstating at much smaller doses as the body is often sensitized and may react strongly to the large doses. Have a look at our reinstating thread:

I was at 25mg for roughly a week then dropped down to 12.5 for 3-4 days and then dropped down to 6mg for 5 days before that disasterous withdrawl. I reinstated yesterday at 25mg and I am already feeling better. Not functional at all but not in agonzing pain thanks god. Most of my benzo symptoms are gone, but when i tried going off seroquel they all came back including the agorophobia which subsided when i got back on 25mg of seroquel yesterday. Do you think that alot of these symptoms are due to a very sensitive system from the benzos?

I defintly learnt my lesson I am tapering very slow. I dont care if it takes a decade lmao, but hopfully I can get off 25mg within 6 months

Hi Omar,

good that you are feeling better. That is important. We recommend tapering no faster than 10% of your previous dose every month which usually would take about 2+ years, not 6 months. Symptoms may get worse at the lower doses. These will help you understand why that is the case.

Why taper by 10% of my dosage? - Tapering - Surviving Antidepressants

Why taper? SERT transporter occupancy studies show importance of gradual change in plasma concentration - Tapering - Surviving Antidepressants

Hope things go well from here on and do keep us updated. Please remember to create your signature (see instructions above).

Wow thats intense. 2 plus years for only 2.5 months of seroquel use. Blows my mind what these pills are capable off. Have you ever heard of anybody getting akathasia from CT seroquel? Trying to figure out if it kindled my klonopin withdrawl that was on its way out. Is it possible to get tardive dykensia or any of those life ruining symptoms for 25m of seroquel? Im scared of tapering that long because of those risks.

...Is it even possible to get tardive disorders from 25mg of seroquel

The asch conformity experiment is relevant to withdrawal symptoms in that it's hard to believe what you are actually experiencing when people and literature around you denies what is actually happening. But if you are getting a twitch and there is no other likely cause then most likely it is seroquel causing the twitch which is a dyskinesia and most likely a "withdrawal dyskinesia" as opposed to a "tardive dyskinesia" and so it very likely will improve over time and is common to experience. You say you are stabilized but the dates of the too rapid tapering and cold turkeys in your signature suggests you are not stabilized, so does the twitch.

That is a promoted theoretical model but in reality people experience dyskinetic symptoms also when lowering doses at already low doses. Affinity of receptors would only mean a tendency to first bind to high affinity, randomly lower affinity receptors will also have some occupancy. But there can also be other explanations. Nobody knows. But the twitch could very well be due to Seroquel and is likely to pass over time when you stabilize.

A week of oxazepam 10mg with 1 day of zopiclone 7.5mg and concurrent Zyprexa totalling: 10mg 25 days , 7.5mg 18 days, 5mg 14 days, 2.5mg 11 days,  10x0mg + 4x1mg. Very bad condition reinstated: zyprexa 7.5mg zopiclone 8.5mg, 25mg Propiomazine. Next day 5mg Z. Then 6 months taper to nothing but Zyprexa and 0.0mg again. 6 days 0mg. Reinstated 0.12mg x2 days. 23 june: 0.25mg. 29 june: 0.12mg. 8th and 9th july 2020 also tried 0.375mg Melatonin. 9 july 0.16mg. Made an error of judgement in august and was forced on various drugs in hospital mainly landing on: Abilify injections + pills for a daily total of 5-15 mg (for 2½ month) + zyprexa 3 days of 10mg mostly 2.5mg but started cheating. 14 oct 2020 only zyprexa and due to cheating earlier able to go 0.31mg! 30 oct 0.21mg, 13 nov 0.14mg, 28 nov 0.10mg, 14 dec 0.07mg, 04 jan 2021 0.035mg, 25 jan 0.017mg, 4 feb 2021 0.000 mg

I have been activating a reduction in my Risperdal which is like a cousin to Seroquel.  So I am now at around .3mgs.  Which is like taking 20mgs of Seroquel.  So my tapper has been going well.  But I have gotten a tremor in my fingers before.  Before I switched from Geodon to Risperdal it was stronger.  But I think it is going away the lower the doses I am able to tapper.  So when I reduce I get body reactions.  My tongue goes wild in my mouth.  I rub it constantly against my lower teeth.  It's a repeditive movement.  A lot of these body reaction go away as my blood level stabilizes.  So your twitch may not be permanent.  My tremors have come and gone.  Thank God you are at a low dose.  It is good for me to tapper slowly.  Going off a low dose at the end is like jumping off a cliff.  It is better for me to cut the pills.

Vistaril (Hydroxyzine) 50mgs at bedtime 2018 -2021 Prescribed with Risp for better sleep

Risperidone (Risperdal) 1mg 2017 -2018   .5mg 2018 -2020

Risperidone .375mgs 11/25/21 - 12/13/21  (18days) Risperdal .333mgs ?  12/14 - 12/16/21  (2 days)

Risperdal .315mgs        12/17 - 12/26/21  Holding here now for the last 10 days (if I go lower I get insomnia)  Risperdal .25 12/28  12/31 (3days)

I know the lower I go on the Risperdal the slower I will need to cut down and hold for at least a month at a time.  I plan to hold at .25 for 3 months when I get there.  Correction, I am reconsidering trying to tapper again after one months.  So the tapper may begin again on 1/28/22

Ya bro its a tough position to be in i went from 100-25 mg over a couple of days with relative ease. The last 25mg hit me like a bag of bricks. I think it kindled my benzo withdrawl and thats why I had to hop back on. I am going to taper with 2 weeks in between each cut from 25-18.5-12.5-6.5 and hold the last 6.5 for a while. Maybe even drop it down by 1-2mg each cut after that.

Hello, @Omar1 We'll need to see a pattern of twitches over some time to see if this is different from the random twitches people get from withdrawal. Please let us know how you're doing.
