Is Buspar ever used strategically to help taper off citalopram and then easier to taper off BuSpar?

No, I've not heard of this. Doing a direct switch to a short acting drug like Buspar would make very little sense.

2003-2009 on and off various SSRI's for short periods, Ativan prn

2010-2011 Ativan, up to 1.5mg/day - tapered off without issue

2013-2021 ativan 1-1.5mg 10-12x/month, daily starting Oct 21 to help with buspar WD

2016 - Effexor 75mg, short-term

2021 Mar -Jun Buspar ADR at high dose, tapered 3 months

2021 Aug Wellbutrin 150mg for 5 days (ADR), then MIrtazapine 7.5mg for 7 days (ADR)

Oct 22/21 - Direct switch ativan to clonazepam (don't do this)

Tapered clonaz Oct/21 - Apr/23  - 0mg!

Supplements: omega-3, mag-glycinate

The only reason I would do it is if it would replace Celexa and be easier to taper off without all the withdrawal symptoms, but thank you so much for that answer!

Greetings Guys

because of ongoing constipation issues, I started doing some research on tapering lorazepam.

My research indicates that lorazepam is much more likely to cause constipation than the Citolapram.

Recently I had decided to hold on tapering the lorazepam further while I am tapering to get off of citalopram.

The reason for this decision is that lorazepam helps me sleep and once in a great while I take it during the day, especially when it seems like I’m having side effects from withdrawal from citolapram.

Does anyone know in light of the constipation issues which have been going on for months and months, if it  would it be a better strategy to just hold at my current citalopram and continue to taper off of lorazepam in order to correct ongoing constipation issues?

I have researched and purchased books and on ongoing research to treat constipation, but if this is likely caused by a medication, I would prefer to work on tapering the medication that is causing this problem.

Another question I have and I don’t know if it can be answered in this forum, is there an eventual lower dose of lorazepam that can be achieved that would least likely that affect my gut/constipation?

Just  for reference, I had a an upper and lower abdominal CT scan last year due to possible kidney stones so I think that really rules out large polyps, tumors that could cause constipation. Also, colonoscopies are extremely dangerous per some MDs and my research, so I don’t want to go that route.
I have employed holistic ways which have assisted me greatly with constipation, however, I want to get to the root of this as it causes ongoing health problems etc

TY, KC

@102820Hi, just to let you know I too have been having constipation problems since coming off citalopram. I had a CT scan which was ok. I'm hoping it will sort itself out eventually but in the meantime I have tried senokot which is a herbal remedy, it works but can give you a tummy ache. I have fybogel too which I have yet to try. I hope the mods can advise you regarding which med you should taper from to best help you with this. Best wishes.🙏🙂

Hi Sonia!

thank you for your reply to this post. May ask when you discontinued escitalopram? Like how long have you been off of it?

@102820Hi, I came off 5.2 mg Citalopram cold turkey in September 2023 and reinstated 0.5 mg in Jan to 2024. Since re instating (and possibly some time after stopping in September), my problem started, not exactly sure when. I think it's nearer the reinstatement time.🙂
