Polzovatel: Pregabalin - adverse reaction after the 1st 75 mg dosage

Hi, I took a small amount (25-50 mg) of Pregabalin for 2.5 weeks for chronic pain, the first dose of 75 mg caused horrendous anxiety, fears, ideations (that I never had before) . I did a quick 3 days taper and , after these 3 days ,started felling very  nauseous as well. I still have  these symptoms now (10.5 months later)

My doctor suggested to try Duloxetine for constant intrusive thoughts - I

tried it years ago for 4 months and tapered off over 8 months as it didnt help.

He also suggested an occasional dosage of benzodiapines ,  I have not taken them yet , but there are so many basic things that I  am not able  to do so I am considering them as well.

I was also wondering if I still can reinstate after 10.5 months and try a small dose of Pregabalin or Duloxetine but after reading posts on your site and realising that in my case its more of an  adverse reaction rather than withdrawals , I am not sure anymore.

I tried lots of supplements but most of them made it worse/ didnt help

Another doctor suggested to try a large dose  (15-30 mg a day) of l- methylfolate - what is your opinion on this ?

2019 - Duloxetine, took for 4 months, tapered off for 8 months

May 2023- Pregabalin- started 25 mg, then 50 mg , symptoms appeared on the first dosage of 75 mg,  took for 2.5 weeks ,stopped after 3 days taper

April 2024- 10.5 months after quitting,  symptoms - fears, ideations , intrusive thoughts, nausea. Waves and windows pattern ( windows - slightly less symptoms)

If you haven't already, would recommend reading Immediate adverse reactions to an antidepressant or within a few doses? How long for recovery?

If you are suffering from an adverse reaction, reintroducing the medication will not help to alleviate your symptoms.

What symptoms are you experiencing? Do they follow The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization?

Thanks,

Firefly

Thank you very much for your reply. I updated my signature.  Just wondering if a small dosage of different AD (duloxetine) can help, I took it in the past for chronic pain and managed to taper off it. Also - my symptoms started on the 1st 75 mg dosage of pregabalin, 25 and 50 mg were not too bad, so I am wondering if a very small dosage of pregabalin can help. Just clutching at straws as I have had  very debilitating anxiety/ ideations for almost 11 months.

Generally speaking, a different type of medication will not ease withdrawal symptoms and could lead to a phenomena known as kindling which you can read more about at Hypersensitivity and Kindling.

Does the anxiety/ideations follow the windows and waves patterns? If so, have you noticed if your windows has increased in duration in the last 11 months?

The symptoms  dont disappear , but the intensity and duration are sometimes slightly less
