Did anyone try to take glycine during the day? 

1st short round: from 2012 april ~ july 

Sertraline 50mg with 1mg Larazepam fast wd few problems

 

2013 may - 2014 january:  75mg Effexor XR +  1mg Rivotril + 10mg Ambien(zolpidem)

2014 january ~ june :        150mg Effexor XR +  2mg Rivotril    cold turkeyed both almost at the same time (crazy wd of course)

 

two days after cold turkey of Effexor I started 10mg of Lexapro for around a month then did a fast taper (for some days took little Ambien to combat wd)

 

Reinstated to 1mg of Klonopin on 2015.04.23  took the 1mg total for 10 days.  I did in three divided doses 0.25 morning + 0.25 afternoon + 0.5 before sleep.  

Now: 1 mgs total K, divided into .75 night .25 day

 

Started taking 3mg Lamictal on 05.07...... Slowly tiltrated up to 6mg....

hi there i have been using tryptophan to fall asleep for about a month now it seems to work most nights. I tried melatonin but it didn't work for me but i wonder if i should go back to 5htp and rotate with the tryptophan??? Tryptophan worked best for me but it could be coming to and end it hasn't been working lately. But i don't know if this is because i am trying to start to go back to the gym and on the nights i workout i can't sleep no matter what i take..Im hoping this will eventually calm down. but for now i just keep taking the tryptophan because there is nothing like falling asleep and waking up its wonderful and i feel human.. on the nights i can't sleep trying to sleep is the worst part of all this its been alitlle over 3 months now,,

2007 started 40 mg of prozac was on it for 7 years

may 2016 went off my prozac

tapered from 40-20 for 2 months 20-10 for a month then 10 for a month

now I'm taking omega 3 fish oil using magnesium spray

taking calcium lactate and alternating melatonin and tryptophan for help with falling asleep

yeah I'm pretty sure the tryptophan is not working anymore haven't been able to fall asleep for a few days now. there is nothing like that tossing and turning to make me dread going to sleep.. But i keep taking the tryptophan in hopes it will work. Im gonna try and not take it tonight but i wonder at this point if it is working like a placebo just because i think its gonna work eventually again.. I don't know if my nervous system can heal if i can't get any sleep?

After struggling with sleeping for over 5 months I decided to try out glycine. Here is my experience.

 

Briefly: I've only taken it for two nights before sleep. First night at 2 grams and the second at 3. The positive effect on sleeping was noticeable: the first night I got 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep in the first half of the night. Unfortunately anxiety during the day was also noticeable.

 

The second night after 3 grams

I felt sleepy even when I woke up in the middle of the night but anxiety upon waking up was brutal. It stayed on a high level throughout the day.

 

No glycine for me tonight. I will maybe try again at a lower dose.

Current: 9/2022 Xanax 0.08, Lexapro 2

2020 Xanax 0.26 (down from 2 mg in 2013), Lexapro 2.85 mg (down from 5 mg 2013)

Amitriptyline (tricyclic AD) and clonazepam for 3 months to treat headache in 1996 
1999. - present Xanax prn up to 3 mg.
2000-2005 Prozac CT twice, 2005-2010 Zoloft CT 3 times, 2010-2013 Escitalopram 10 mg
went from 2.5 to zero on 7 Aug 2013, bad crash 40 days after
reinstated to 5 mg Escitalopram 4Oct 2013 and holding liquid Xanax every 5 hours
28 Jan 2014 Xanax 1.9, 18 Apr  2015 1 mg,  25 June 2015 Lex 4.8, 6 Aug Lexapro 4.6, 1 Jan 2016 0.64  Xanax     9 month hold

I started taking 50 mg of 5-HTP at night. It did help me sleep but invariably woke with a headache. Because it seemed to be helping me sleep and improve my mood I kept taking it in spite of the headaches. Then after a couple of weeks I noticed I was getting very anxious and weepy.

I hadn't been dropping from prozac for eight months but this felt like bad withdrawal symptoms. I stopped the 5-HTP and the anxiety and crying let up. Wonder if anyone else had this kind of experience.

I also tried taking 500 mg of L-Tryptophan in the mornings with B6. I always had a strange prickling sensation in my skin, mild nausea and feeling out of breath afterwards. A bit like a flush after taking Niacin but not the same. I can't find any reports of this as a known side effect. Anyone else had this experience or know the cause?

On 20 mg of Prozac for about ten years. Sept 2012 started reducing 10% a drop using gram scale, with average of one month holds.

When I'd reached the half way mark, taking 10 mg  powder out of the 20 mg capsules, I switched over to 10 mg capsules and cutting

down from those. Withdrawals got harder the lower I dropped.  May 2013 changed to 5% drops, holding until all withdrawal symptoms gone.

January 2015 changed to liquid prozac (concentration of 20MG per 5 mL) using a 1mL oral syringe.

Current dose of fluoxetine solution equivalent 3.4 mg. Any effort to drop below this has been disastrous so for the time being I'm staying at this level.
Adding 200 mg Tryptophan and 200 GABA a day has helped with anxiety.
Also take 1,300mg Omega- 3,  875mg  Magnesium, 1800mg Curcumin, 1000mg Vit C, 5000 Vit D.

I got a lot of that during my times of taking 5-HTP. I got tired of it.

My self imposed Amino Acid Therapy: Tyrosine 500mg 1xday, Theanine 200 mg 1xday, & Taurine 500 mg 2x day. (All neurotransitter pre-cursors)- seems to have helped me immensely. And of course- eating healthy, including Black Beans for the oligosaccharides for gut health.

I take glycine daily. I am taking it for liver benefits. I also am taking 3mg a day. Ideally I am supposed to take 1mg in the morning and 2mg at bed, which I've not been doing but spacing it 3x daily between meals. After reading this I will try to take a more concentrated dose at bedtime to see if I get a sleep benefit.

If your still around could you please tell me how glycine benefits the liver?  I know I want to be spoon fed... I could look it up. 

 

Odd short story about glycine... I could not find it when I first went looking.  Then I got his movement disorder and started being a true supplement shopper... ( like my life depended on it) I had a store order it in for me.  A lady who had MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities) which is what I seem to have now... suggested using it to help with reactions.  The idea according to her was it helped to push thing thru the liver and out of the body faster.. it and a few more things.  

ALA +glycine+ NAC = glutothione... glutothione is used to detox the body... something like that... is what I read ... 

 

I started taking the glycine with vit C glutathione and ALA to get out of a reaction to chemicals faster... when it did not work fast I would bump up the glycine first as it tastes best...often this was enough to stop the numb face spinning head brain fog pick a symptom.... 

 

I started to sleep better... after being on all of the above... truth is I started taking glutathione first as it was the master detoxer and then learned taking it too much can cause your body not to make enough... so then I saved it for bad reactions and take the precursors for maintenance.

 

I started with magnesium calm at 1/4 t a night as I have reacted to it for a years and built up to 1 t.  I stay there.

 

I have not tried glycine with magnesium before bed for sleep but I have taken it to stop the jerking when jerking wakes me up it seems to help for that.

BACKGROUND & AIMS:

Several diseases are characterised by decreased glutathione (GSH) levels due to an enhanced formation of oxygen radicals. To increase GSH levels, the additional supply of GSH precursors was suggested. In this study we evaluated the potency of a single and combined administration of the GSH modulating substances glutamine (GLN), N-acetylcysteine (NAC), and glycine (GLY) as well as R,S-alpha-lipoic acid (LA) to enhance intracellular GSH content in a well-defined model system.

RESULTS:

Exposure of myelomonocytic U937 cells for 24 h to GLN revealed a 1.5-fold enhancement of GSH levels with a concomitant decrease in the formation of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation. Addition of NAC stimulated GSH formation only at subphysiological GLN levels. GLY enhanced GSH levels under GLN starvation, but caused a diminution of GSH content under optimal GLN supply. LA in combination with 2 mmol/l GLN evoked a 3.6-fold enhancement of GSH content compared to GLN starved cells.

CONCLUSION:

These results demonstrate that the GSH content of U937 cells is dependent on the supply of GLN, NAC, LA, and GLY. Combinations of the single substances can enhance but also decrease the intracellular GSH content, which is of clinical importance when supplying GSH-modulating substances to patients.

Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Has anybody found glycine to help with anxiety?

History: Prozac & Lithium from 1999 to 2003. Ended up back on after 4 months because taking a beta-blocker caused immediate depression (just 2 doses - turned out I didn't even need it; I had no other withdrawal symptoms - I might have ended up med and withdrawal-free otherwise :(). - Switched to Effexor (75mg 3/day) and Seroquel (50mg 3/day) in 2010. - Did a self-taper during 2016. - Developed Discontinuation Syndrome 02/17.

Supplements: Magnesium-Glycinate 400mg split into 4 100mg doses throughout the day. Vitamin C 500mg - once per day. Fish Oil 1360 mg (950 mg Active Omega-3) - twice per day.

I'm not a doctor. I use the internet, experience, and trial & error. Seek medical advice if necessary.

I started taking glycine this past week or so and it def helps me with anxiety

 

I started off with half a capsule (500mgs) and worked up slowly to a full capsule at night and one in the morning.

 

I don't know if it helps with sleep but it does help me relax so my sleep seems deeper and more refreshing.

I did have a few nights with poor sleep since taking it, but with no increase in anxiety.

 

I increased the dose last night to 2 capsules (1000mgs each) and had a very good night.

 

My question is: has anyone had a stable dose of glycine go "paradoxical" ?

I plan to stay on the 2 capsules at night and one in the morning, but am wondering if I should be watching for an possible opposite reaction of increased anxiety, the longer I take it?

do you think I should take a break from it from time to time, or lower the dose at least, to prevent a possible paradoxical reaction?

I don't know how many ppl use glycine so I don't know if there's enough experience out there to be able to say how it works for ppl in WD

 

but I hope someone with experience can chime in.

  • pysch med history: 1974 @ age 18 to Oct 2017 (approx 43 yrs total) 
  •  Drug list: stelazine, haldol, elavil, lithium, zoloft, celexa, lexapro(doses as high as 40mgs), klonopin, ambien, seroquel(high doses), depakote, zyprexa, lamictal- plus brief trials of dozens of other psych meds over the years
  • started lexapro 2002, dose varied from 20mgs to 40mgs. First attempt to get off it was 2007- WD symptoms were mistaken for "relapse". 
  •  2013 too fast taper down to 5mg but WD forced me back to 20mgs
  •  June of 2105, tapered again too rapidly to 2.5mgs by Dec 2015. Found SA, held at 2.5 mgs til May 2016 when I foolishly "jumped off". felt ok until  Sept, then acute WD hit!!  reinstated at 0.3mgs in Oct. 2106
  • Tapered off to zero by  Oct. 2017 Doing very well. 
  • Nov. 2018 feel 95% healed, age 63 
  • Jan. 2020 feel 100% healed, peaceful and content

Hi everybody!

 

I have also taken glycine for sleep for many months to its relaxing effect on the CNS and it has helped me a lot, I get restful sleeps and I get sleeped after few minutes I lay on bed even if a I have anxiety all day long. I take it together with a infusion of chamomile, passionflower and meliss. However, even if I sleep very well, the moment I open my eyes I get all my anxiety back.

I use the Glycinate powder of Now food I find on iherb which I think it is excellent, i take 3/4 teaspoon as indicated on the product

 

I have never used it during the day, so I am waiting for catnap opinion as well.

 

Is glycine safe to bu used for many months or may it be creating an addiction/dependency? Should I suspend it from time to time or it is not necessary so far I get relief from it?

Valium: 1 year approx. - begun at the end of 2010 and tapered off at the end of 2011

Rivotril: 3 years approx.- begun at the end of 2011 tapered off at the end of 2014

Gabapentin: 9 months approx., begun in March 2011 tapered off at the end of 2011

Laroxyl (amitriptyline)- 1,5 years, begun at the end of 2011 and tapered off in April of 2013 and then changed to 

Cymbalta - 1,8 years (up to 90mg), begun in April 2013 and tapered off in 6-8 weeks from 90 mg to 0 mg at the beginning of 2015.

When tapering off Cymbalta all these symptoms of anxiety began:

Physically: Inner tremor, craneal and ear ringing, tingling, continuous tension and fatigue, inner agitation, nausea in the morning and mentally: obsessive thoughts, suicidal thoughts when I fell very bad and much hypocondrya. 

Bromazepam- 1,5 month 1-2 capsules/day of 1,5 mg, begun in March 2015 and tapered off in May 2015. As symptoms continued my doctor put me on

Lyrica - 8 months, (up to 75mg/day), begun in June 2015 and then tapered off gradually (25 mg off each month) in February 2016

My symptoms of anxiety went away thanks to Lyrica but went back before beginning to taper it off at the end of November 2015 so I went back to 

Bromazepam- 3 months 1-2 capsules/day of 1,5 mg, begun in November 2015 and tapered off in March 2016.

tried glycine last night, this is what happened

 

took around 300mg of glycine at 8pm and was asleep for just before 9pm which is my usual sleeping time, I then woke just before 12pm for the toilet so got 3 solid hours which is nothing special as I often get over 3 solid hours, the 3 hours I got though was very deep sleep, I knew it was deep when i woke from it and looking at my fitbit data this morning shows that I got 1 and half hours deep sleep within those 3 hours, usually my fitbit data shows I only get 1 and half hours and often a lot less for the whole night of sometimes up to 8 hours , so getting this much deep sleep in just 3 hours shows that the glycine had a big effect on my deep sleep,

 

unfortunately though I could not get back to sleep after I woke, I can usually get back to sleep very fast usually within a minute or 2 if I wake any time before 2.30pm, any time waking after 2.30pm usually takes a while to get back to sleep,

 

so it got to around 1pm and i decided to take another 300mg of glycine, this did nothing and it got to 2am and I knew I was getting no more sleep unless I took a sleep aid so I took 1 tylenol pm which I have just imported from the USA, this worked and I was back asleep just before 3am, ended up getting around another 3 hours sleep waking once in between,

 

I have probably chose a bad time to try glycine as the last few days I have a cold and really sore throat and sleep is always worse when I have a cold etc,

 

I am going to experiment some more with glycine, maybe I did not take enough to keep me asleep longer than the 3 hours as it does say on the bottle to take up to 3 capsules before bed which is 3000mg where I just took 1/10 of that at only 300mg,

 

I will likely try taking it next when wake in the early morning and see what effect that has and then do some further experimenting when my cold and sore throat has fully gone

2001 - 2005 prozac,  2001 - 2017 various benzos, mainly diazapem and zanex,  2002 - 2017 olanzapine or seroquel,  2002 -2017 propanolol, 2005 - 2009 venlafaxine 75mg , forced to go cold turkey off venlafaxine as moved Thailand, doctor cut me off and couldn't get it there, severely ill for over 2 years, countered withdrawals with more zanex and seroquel

2014 returned to UK, mainly to get treatment getting off meds

doctor advised to taper seroquel over a few weeks, severely ill and bed bed-bound so reinstated it, 2015 tapered seroquel myself slower over a few months, was off it 2 months and was too ill so went on olanzapine, became zombie and too tired to get out of bed, went back on seroquel, very depressed so went back on venlafaxine, didnt work  so doctor swapped to zoloft became very agitated so back on venlafaxine

June 2016 - felt strong enough to begin tapering again, started what I thought was a slow taper of all meds,  2016 July Not had any alcoholic drink since this date, 

2016 October completely off diazepem, 2017 Feb completely off seroquel, 2017 March completely off proponanlol, 2017 April (day before birthday) completely off venlafaxine, OFF ALL MEDS 11/4/2017, was fine for nearly 3 months and then delayed withdrawal hit,

supplements taking: turmeric capsules, NiaCel (nicotinamide riboside), Vit B12 sublingual, Vit B3, Vit B6, Vit B1, apple cider vinegar, manuka umf 10 honey, camu camu powder,  melatonin when needed, epsom salt baths, juices, smoothies,

Hi fellow insomniacs..

 

sleep has been one of the biggest withdrawal symptoms for me..im 1 and a half years off fluroxetine SSRI and I have no trouble falling asleep..but get 3..4..5 hours max a night..what I would do to get 8 or 9 hours of sleep. My body feels hot and agitated when I wake, i have no anxiety just an inability to stay asleep..Weird thing is most days I am able to get through work etc but I am heavily brain fogged and surreal for most days. I haven't tried any Amino acids yet and i'm wondering could they help with sleep? Which ones should i try?

 

Any suggesstions i'd be so grateful..i'm beyond desperate right now x

5/28/2015-off Adderal salts 2.5mg. (I had been on that since hospital 10/2014)

12/2015---just holding, holding, holding, with trileptal/oxcarb at 75 mg. 1/2 tab at hs.  My last psycho med ever!  Tapered @ 10% every 4 weeks, sometimes 2 weeks to

2016 Dec 16 medication free!!

I was reading through this post about Glycine because I was considering adding into my sleep tool kit while I'm tapering from Clonazepam.

 

Currently I take between .25 and .50 of Melatonin though I will take breaks from it for 3 or 4 days.  I also take between 1 and 2 Magnesium Gylcinate tablets totalling about 200mgs.  

 

From what I have read here, adding the gylcinate and starting at a low dose doesn't seem to cause issues. Ans it seems to be okay taking with the Magnesium Gylcinate.

 

Is anyone still using it or trying it?

 

I'm getting between 4-6 hours of broken sleep.  Very light and takes me a long time to fall asleep.  

9/2013-4/2014:  After moms death, was prescribed a series of meds for short periods of time that didn't work. Zoloft, Lexapro,  Nortriptyline, Liquid Prozac, Cymbalta. 

1/2014-9/2014. Clonzapam: Given Lamictal, stopped Clonzapam at .125mgs  

1/2015-4 2017 Remeron: 41.25 -0.025mgs

7/2015-11/2018 Lamictal: 200mgs-0.05 mgs Had paradoxical reaction to Lamictal wd, broke my heart to take a benzo but wasn't sleeping. 

3/28/2019 -2/5/ 2021  Clonazapam: 0.625mgs-.00115 Med Free 

July 27th, 2022**Severe Setback due to surgery/ anesthesia. 

9/7/22-10/4/22 Trazadone 50-100mgs for sleep, 10/13/22-11/13/22 Trazadone 1 mg to stabilize

Hey all, insomnia has to be one of the longest lasting and often worst symptoms (since it leads to others) I've had to deal with.  After trying dozens of supplements and vitamins, I've found these amino acids to help me most of all with sleep issues.  Each one is known alone to increase growth hormone, so together I imagine they increase it by quite a lot, which is probably why this combination works so well for sleep. 

 

My experience with each:

ornithine: This is by far the most effective one of the three for getting to sleep and staying asleep I've found.  I've played with the dosage a bit, and right now have settled for about 2g 30 min to an hour before bedtime.  Some say that when taking right at bedtime, it keeps them up for a while, hence the earlier dosing.  After waking too early (happens to me every night, unfortunately), I've found I can only take a fraction of my usual dosage (less than 500mg) or I become nauseated.  With this in my system, though, I've found it much easier to get back to sleep after awakening too early

 

lysine: I haven't seen anyone mention this for sleep, but without a doubt it has helped me.  Be sure to check into this one before using, because there are possible issues with higher doses (i.e. excess calcium retention).  Around 1g seems to be right for me.   With doses too high, something feels very wrong and can even keep me up.

 

glycine hcl: For whatever reason, I've only found success with this in pretty small doses (500mg).   Higher doses tend to have the opposite effect on me.

 

Taken together, these have allowed me to get 7 hours of sleep for a few nights the past week (that's a LOT for me, normally I get 3-4) 

 

Unfortunately, now I have a new problem to deal with -- I no longer enjoy the antidepressant effects of REM sleep deprivation.  As a result, I have severe depression after the nights I'm able to get restful sleep.  Oh well, one problem at a time I guess...

 

Anyway, I really hope this information helps someone.  I know I've been on the brink of suicide many times due to this torture!

We don't recommend people try a handful of supplements at once, but to try them at low doses one at a time. Effects can be unpredictable.

Yes, I would recommend that as well.  It took me a while of trying different dosages and observing the effects of each one before I became comfortable with combining them.  If I were to suggest one to try first, though, it would have to be ornithine

I'm currently using glycine at around 500mg before sleep, and 500mg after early wake-up.   The growth hormone release could partly be why it works so well for sleep.  One might consider ornithine (most effective for me) and/or lysine for sleep as well.   I've been taking all three for a couple weeks.  They also cause the release of growth hormone, and I find their effect on my sleep more consistent than just  glycine.

Im looking for supplements to take for sleep and thinking about glycine. however, I found that it messes with serotonin and this makes me afraid to try it. we should avoid serotonin things, right?

in 2002- 0,5 tablet cipramil for half a year, ended it uneventfully. in 2006 - citalopram for half a year, ended in horrific state, ditched the drugs CT. 2007-2008 not feeling well but drug free. in 2008 prozac 20mg + quetiapine 25mg. 2009 tried to stop, ended up in hole after couple of months, started zoloft. 2009-2011 zoloft 50mg. went to 25mg in 2011 summer, it resulted in half a year horrible suffering. reinstated, changed drugs, nothing happened. by 2012 beginning suddenly felt great and CT meds. after 4 months came suddenly most horrible human suffering that's possible. was started on prozac and questiapine. started tapering slowly, GFCF diet and Hardy Nutritionals vitamins in 2013 summer. 

current medications: 1) fluoxetine and quetiapine since Aug 2012; 2) Daily Essential Nutrients by Hardy Nutritionals 7 capsules / since May 2013 + omega3; 3) Gluten-free-casein-free diet since june 2013

Started withdrawing slowly since april 2013. Mostly around 10% cuts. 

April'13 - March'14: fluoxetine 40mg -> 19,5mg; quetiapine 50mg -> 40mg
April'14-March'15: fluoxetine 19,5mg -> 14,4mg; quetiapine 40mg -> 22mg

April'15-March'16: fluoxetine 14,4mg -> 7,4mg; quetiapine 22mg -> 15mg

April'16-March'17: fluoxetine 7,4mg -> 5,0mg; quetiapine 15mg -> 7,25mg

April'17-March'18: fluoxetine 5,0mg -> 4,0mg; quetiapine 7,25mg -> 0 (as of 1st Feb 2018)!!!!

April´18-March´19: fluoxetine 4,0mg - > 2,3mg. Jumped off fluoxetine 1,4mg due to pregnancy in July 2019. Oct 2019 severe withdrawal syndrome started.

Took mistakenly a complex for hormonal support that included pregnenolone dec2019-april2020. Stopped it april 2020 and immediately severe akathisia started. Have had life threatening akathisia since, 100% disabled, suicidal, very hard to hold on.

And serotonin is a precursor to melatonin which is why it might help some people.  However, as you have most probably seen happen with other members of SA since you became a member back in 2013, things that "other people" are okay taking (those who have not taken psychiatric drugs), members might have issues with.

 

And as we always suggest to members, if you try anything new only start with a small amount and only make one change at a time.

You know what else affects serotonin? Almost all (if not all, albeit indirectly) vitamins, amino acids, and electrolytes, carbohydrates, fats, etc. In other words, about anything you put into your body.  Personally, I had more success with ornithine and lysine (they helped for about a year, then ornithine went paradoxical on me and lysine stopped doing anything noticable) but glycine did help some too. I did have to keep the dose lower than what is normally recommended for sleep with glycine

Correct, the reference to serotonin is baloney, as it usually is.

 

Glycine may be helpful, but we don't know why.
