Anyone else comming off remeron? How much, how long you been on? What's your experience? Thank you! Tina HI Tina, That is the equivelent of a cold turkey taper. I would reinstate to at least maybe 15mg and hold there for about 4 weeks. If you don't feel any better, increase to 22.5 and hold for 4 more weeks. When you are ready to taper, I believe there are instructions for tapering Remeron at 10% of current dose every 4 weeks in the taper forum. But if not, post a request for help and someone should respond. Hang in there. CS Unfortunately, I can't remember how I did or otherwise I would help you. By the way, you may Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010 Started taper of Adderall, Wellbutrin XL, Remeron, and Doxepin in 2006 Finished taper on June 10, 2010 Temazepam on a PRN basis approximately twice a month - 2014 to 2016 Beginning in 2017 - Consumption increased to about two times per week April 2017 - Increased to taking it full time for insomnia
Moderator Emeritus Petunia Posted October 28, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Posted October 28, 2014 Hi tgirl, Here are our tips for tapering off Remeron: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/5301-tips-for-tapering-off-remeron-mirtazapine/ We recommend cutting by no more than 10% per month, you probably need to updose. Please start a topic for yourself in the introductions section and we will be able to offer suggestions and support through your taper. Petu. I'm not a doctor. My comments are not medical advise. Moderator Emeritus Petunia Posted October 28, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Posted October 28, 2014 Hi tgirl, Welcome, you can use this thread as your ongoing journal to track progress and communicate with the community, add to it whenever you want. I'm sorry to hear that you followed your doctor's advice and have ended up here, sadly, this happens a lot. Many people arrive here after following the advice of well meaning, but ill informed doctors. See: What should I expect from my doctor about withdrawal symptoms Have you or are you taking any other medications? Please put your drug and withdrawal history in your signature. Putting a short version of your drug history in your signature helps people understand your context, it appears below each of your posts. Here are instructions for how to do it: http://survivinganti...your-signature/ We recommend tapering by no more than 10% every 4 weeks, this minimizes the risk of getting withdrawal symptoms. Here is our link for tapering remeron: http://survivinganti...on-mirtazapine/ Its possible to make your own liquid from the tablets, please read through the link above, it will explain this, also read: How to make a liquid from tablets or capsulesGeneral instructions on making a homemade liquid suspension Why did your doctor put you on Remeron? What symptoms are you having at the moment? Are you able to sleep? How long have you been on 7.5mg? You may need to updose and hold for a while, to let your symptoms settle down, then you could continue with a slower taper. Once you get back to us with more details about your drug history and situation, we will be in a better position to offer support and suggestions. Try not to worry, you were only on Remeron for 6 months, with proper tapering, you should be able to come off it and get back to normal. Petu. I'm not a doctor. My comments are not medical advise. Moderator Emeritus bubble Posted October 31, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Posted October 31, 2014 have you been taking any other medication before remeron or are you taking anything now? In what form is 7.5 mg that you are taking now? A kind of general consensus is that you should updose since you went from 45 to 7.5 in a month. Can you be a bit more specific in describing your symptoms? How is your sleep? Do you have a feeling that things have been getting worse over the last 2 weeks? If yes, that would mean the updosing might help. You shouldn't go down any time soon and especially not skip doses. it's getting late here but somebody else will come along to help. Hang in there. Moderator Emeritus bubble Posted October 31, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Posted October 31, 2014 Insomnia is the most common symptom associated with remeron withdrawal. Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted November 1, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Posted November 1, 2014 Hi Tgirl I have been on remeron since 2005 and slowly tapering since 2012. I am not completely off yet. Down to 1.4 mg. I have experienced significant recovery. My capacity to sleep is markedly improved, I have developed new interests, found Joy again etc. it's very possible I experienced many Dr managed tapers that were too fast and resulted in withdrawal. I had symptoms that were very similar to me. I'm not a medical professional but if it was me I would increase my dose. What dose were you on before you dropped to 7.5, how long were you on that dose and did you have any symptoms? D Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others. On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist. Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014. Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September. Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015. Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15). Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past. DRUG FREE - as at 1st May 2017 >My intro post is here - http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/2250-dalsaan
tgirl Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 I was on 45 for 6 mos. Then went down to 15 then down to 7.5. All within 3 weeks. Now my pdoc wants me to start every other day 7.5. Moderator Emeritus dalsaan Posted November 1, 2014 Moderator Emeritus Posted November 1, 2014 I can understand that. It sounds to me that your symptoms have increased and got more intense as you have dropped down. This would suggest withdrawal symptoms and is consistent with my experience. When I have severe withdrawals I have been unable to sleep at all Did you dr say why he wants you to come off so quickly. That schedule is quick even from the manufacturers perspective (and for financial reasons drug companies deny or minimise withdrawal) If it was me I would go up to 15 and wait a month or so to see if I could stabilise on that amount. I definitely wouldn't do one day on, one day off at 7.5. To me, that is a recipe for disaster Up dosing can create issues, particularly given you already have a disturbed nervous system but it can also address withdrawal which is what I think you are going through As I said I'm not a dr but what I would say is that you have been following his advice and that hasn't been working Your thoughts?
