Hello there

I don’t like to keep intruding and posting it’s difficult enough as you say coping with it day in day out.

There are so many of us going through exactly the same . The symptoms you describe are from w/d. I bet like me yr headaches have somewhat subsided and now you have a new set of symptoms to deal with that change by the hour. The pattern is so similar for those of us stuck on a dose of Paxil experiencing  wd .

One is talking about bridging and changing over to Prozac.

I know exactly how you are feeling it’s very scary but the only way out of this is to go through it . Im

going to stabilise then continue my journey tapering slowly .

How are you coping day to day ?

Prozac is supposed to have a longer life as opposed to Paxil and so wd not as bad.

However I have just read changing over does not work if you are already in wd.

An update on my symptoms:

last month I forgot to put tinnitus which has been with me on and off from the beginning and bloated uncomfortable tummy

Persistant symptoms:

Dry eyes blurred vision

Anxiety (this has been low level for a while)

Depression (very up and down every day different )

Tingly skin (now intermittent no longer 24/7)

Headaches (much better than last month )

Sleep. I do wake on and off but usually get about 6/7 hrs on average

Palpitations

Depersonalisation (low level )

akathisia (some of the symptoms not all)

new symptoms:

Travelling pain all over my body

Joint pain especially in left hip and left shoulder

Pressure in bladder similar to cistitis

Heavy feeling in lower back passage

A feeling like I have a prolapse (had hysterectomy years ago )

Things that help:

Exercise. I go to the gym every day and do 45 minutes studio cycling and 45 mins body pump on average

I also use treadmill for an hour here and there

Walking my dog Georgie for an hour every day helps alleviate depressive thoughts and lifts my mood

Seeing friends every week and socialising

Going to work every day takes my mind off me. I work 5 mornings and sometimes into the afternoon as it’s my own business. I have a children’s day nursery.

Things that don’t help:

Weekends. Home alone where I have too much time on my hands to sit and think about how I’m feeling and how scary it is. I try and plan ahead so I’m in and out of the house.

I’m  seperated from my husband have two grown up children I see often and a long term partner I see every day. We are hoping to move in together this year .

I remain on 8.5mg seroxat/Paxil stabilising from a too fast taper. Been on this dose since Feb 2019.

I have decreased the pregabalin to 3x 25mg per day from 3 weeks ago and have had no adverse side affects.

While I am holding  on seroxat I will continue to decrease pregabalin as I was put on this during my fast taper in Nov 2018 and now I am going very slowly moving forward with my SSRI tapering I do not feel the need for pregabalin.

Thats my update for this month!

Hi long road.  Reading your post sounds a mirror image to me in some ways with the symptoms.  My head is usually constant trauma of some kind or another,  and has been the last two months especially.  All my symptoms are mostly physical. The one I worry the most is akathesia, Like you I present some symptoms but not all.   Can you describe you akathesia.   For me it's a strange intense feeling throughout my body with the urge to move, but its very sporadic comes and goes,  I have not mental problems with it though. I have also developed the bladder pressure and strange genital feeling this last week. That continues on a daily basis, but eases at night. Occasional stomach issues and poop turning yellow. Some days I am dead fatigued, others I'm not.  You are lucky you can do as you do as going to the gym. I was ok for the start and carried on most pastimes, but now I am at a point where a short walk exhausts me now.  I would say don't push yourself too much.  Save some strength for dealing with this.  Your diet is the same also,  a lot of people are going extremes with diet,  but I will remain as I am with this. I've dropped sugar and only drink water now also.

Are you holding your seroxat dose still?

Take care

2002 to 2018. 20mg seroxat daily.

January 2018 to july 2018  tapered 20mg down to.10mg

10mg daily now from july 2018.

Hi Longroadhome,

that’s a great forum name by the way!

I can see lots of positives on your post - some symptoms have improved and you seem to be doing some great self care. I am glad your anxiety levels are not too high.

I too find exercise / walking the dog very helpful.

Like you, new symptoms are appearing for me quite a while after reducing my dose. This seems to be quite common!

Hey LRH,

You've been so lovely on my intro thread. I just wanted to thank you for that.

Also, your monthly update is fantastic. A great roundup of everything.

I notice you run a children's nursery. I do part-time maths and English tutoring and it is hands down the best distraction from all of this. It sounds like that is the case for you. If I had my time again, I think I'd be a teacher.

I want a bit of your positive attitude – please can you send it my way! (I'm only an hour away from Birmingham).

Big well done to you, you are an inspiration.

Love, Anna x

Hello Softcell

my symptoms are mostly physical too though I do have depression and some anxiety.

Symptoms fluctuate, change, go away and come back. For instance yesterday on my monthly update I wrote headaches were much better however yesterday afternoon i had quite a bad headache that has completely gone today it’s so unpredictable  . When I go to bed I wonder what I will wake up with in the morning . Will my symptoms remain the same wil they be worse or will I have new symptoms? And this is how I live at the moment day to day.

Akathesia: I have tension, irritability, agitation that can make me feel so wound up and distress that comes with the slightest worry.

Poop turning yellow seems to be part of wd for some.

I go to bed round about 10pm and have no trouble dropping off to sleep . Then I seem to wake at 12ish then between 2am and 3am then about 5am from about 6:00am I am awake but lying still until I get up . This is usually around 6:45am on a work day. Although I wake often it doesn’t bother me and therefore my sleep is not a concern.

I have stopped drinking alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

I keep a daily diary of my day/symptoms/how I’m feeling etc and this really helps to look back on if I’m having a particularly bad day and feeling hopeless as I can look back and see that I have felt like this before and have had better days in between and this helps me to soldier on so I’d really advice that you do this.

yes I’m holding at 8:5mg at the moment and have been for 4 months . I’m waiting to stabilise from a too quick taper so not thinking of dropping until symptoms calm down .

look for the Benzo Buddy Community Forum site . Someone has wrote an excellent detailed piece entitled “what is happening in your brain” all about wd and why we get each symptom . Posted 3rd October 2012. Think Altro the moderator can send you a link. It’s a must read.

Let me know you’ve read it and what you think ?

I really feel if we can stick it out and YES it is hell, then  we’ll find recovery and peace and that’s what I’m working towards .

i wonder if if you could help with a couple of questions I have. Since the start of my taper I have been bothered with dry eyes and dry mouth with the corners of my mouth a little cracked and red. Is this common in withdrawal and if so why ? The reason I ask is that it sounds like Sjogren syndrome and I wonder if I should get it checked out at the doctors ?

I also have pain in my left hip again this came on at the beginning of my taper is this a coomon wd symptom too?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Longroad.  I can only pass on my experiences so far. In the early months I had hip and joint pains, to an extent that the doctor tested me for arthritis. All results was fine.  Those issues  have subsided over time and of course replaced by other symptoms.   I mostly get snapping joints now only.

I do get a dry mouth also on occasions if its related to withdrawals I haven't a clue.   I hope the mods get to you and can give you a defined answer.

Speak soon.

i wonder if if you could help with a couple of questions I have.

Hello again LRH,

I am going to write something that is going to sound massively hypocritical, as it's advice I've received myself and been too quick, too panicky and too irrational to ignore...

Strange, unexpected symptoms can often be due to withdrawal.

I'm not dismissing your dry eyes and dry corners of the mouth as being minor, but rather saying that our situations, with the medicines we've been taking and trying to stop, throw up all kinds of symptoms. Seroxat, and other psychiatric drugs, affect the ENTIRE body and all its many, many interrelated systems. And because we are all different, the symptoms can also be very different.

I totally TOTALLY understand the health anxiety / hypochondria thing. I have it myself now, and I think it is the manifestation of a disabling obsessive thinking pattern that itself is part of withdrawal (I have never ever known in my life such intense ruminating and over-analysing).

I have looked at Sjögren's Syndrome and see that there are a lot of other symptoms that go with it. This is how a rational me would approach it:

  • If you have other symptoms that are listed on this page then follow the instruction there and go to your doctor. If anything, having yourself checked can at least rule out anything and put your mind at rest. Some vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause cracked lips and a blood test could identify this and help you correct it. But if something is found, and you are advised to take any supplements, I would check with the mods here and test the water with supplements very gently.
  • If you don't have any other symptoms then I'd be inclined to think it is part of your normal withdrawal patterns and the stress these drugs and withdrawal puts the body through. And I would look to non-medicinal methods to help tackle it. The dry eyes tips I gave before can help (I'm sure others have lots of tips too). For lips – I have had dry, cracked lips for a long time (even as a child, long before taking Seroxat) and one lipsalve that's really helped is Aquaphor. You put it on before bed and by the morning the dryness and splits are virtually healed.

Also, if you recognise you're fast getting health anxiety, please step away from, or limit, online research. It's a rabbit hole you don't want to drop into. Take that from someone that's fallen deeply into it over the past few months.

I hope this helps lovely LRH. I will be in touch by email soon. As per my reply to you on my thread, I may well be getting small improvements and hopefully those improvements will snowball and I'll get the courage to meet up.

You have inspired me. Remember that XXXX

I actually do not care what anyone calls me.

Nor do I care what they think or say about me, unless it's an insult in which case they should say it in person.

After 30 years of running a transport company my employees called me all sorts, rarely flattering, but if they were talking about me they were leaving someone else alone.

The problem with being the boss, you cannot ring in a sickie as you know only too well.

How are you doing today and what breed is Georgie?

Just seen we share the same birthday but you are younger than me, maybe I should call you Dolly Girl😁

Have the best weekend you can. We are all getting there.

Hello Sassy

i had a good day yesterday but not so good today thank you for asking :)

You are always asking about everyone else how are you doing ? Do you also have the ups and downs we all seem to have ?

Georgie is a staffi cross and I’ve had her for two years. There’s a story attached to Georgie that I’m going to post in my thread. She’s incredibly playful a real handful and a bright spark . Too clever sometimes. Do you have any animals ?

Are you retired now it must have been hard work managing a transport company. Managing people in general is hard work so many personalities some good some bad some just plain difficult !

I started reading your thread you’ve tapered too fast but now your stabilising how’s it going ?

" Hello Dolly "  ( too good a chance to miss )

Hi LRH.

Thanks for asking. I feel better than yesterday but as good as tomorrow.

As for staff, I think I would rather deal with truck drivers and traffic staff than some of todays children and their modern parents.

I guess I am old fashioned as well as old but I do not understand why they cannot be allowed to be children, not little people.

You have a great companion in a staffie, loyal, trustworthy, fiercely protective and usually love kids.

Is she a rescue ?

I have had collies all my adult life. We had three until Oct 2017 when Sunny died. He was a rescue who had been badly abused and was a bit of a problem for the ten years we had him. He would bite when frightened or excited but eventually could be very loving too once he discovered balls and water.

We still have Tango, my wifes dog ( collies are very much a one person dog ) who she got as a farm bred puppy.

I lost Mac ( the dog in the picture with a ball in his mouth ) six weeks ago at almost 16 years.

He was the best of all my dogs. He was fun, never started a fight but finished a few particularly when protecting his " brothers ". He was mischievous up to the night before he died. I miss him a lot but not yet sure if I will have another. He was a hard act to follow.

I am retired now but after I sold the transport, my wife and I bought a run down caravan park in Scotland. We spent 7 years developing it, building roads laying pipes and cables then selling new holiday homes.

Just got it to the point of less work and I had to retire due to ill health.

Life story, short version still boring enough.

How about you, I have the feeling you a strong character who knows what she wants. I admire your tenacity with regular gym and dog walking. It can be hard when coping with WD.

I will try and send some pics of the dogs.

Hope you had a good day at work🤣

Take care

Take care

Hi Sass

Ha to “Dolly” more like Dolly Daydream today ! Pre occupied with work today to think much about my symptoms.

Like the answer “but as good as tomorrow” so apt.

Unfortunately some of today’s parents are worse than truck drivers . They talk to staff with very little respect thankfully only a minority though. My nursery is in a deprived area of Brum, an area I grew up in so yeah I suppose in some respects I’ve always had to hold my own .

Call me old fashioned but I agree children aren’t allowed the time and space to be children like we were. Dressed like miniature adults and not allowed to get their hands dirty.

I love dogs always have done and to me a home isn’t a home without a dog. I’ve always loved collies not only are they beautiful they’re also very intelligent.

I bet losing Mac has hit you hard . He’s the ‘once in a lifetime’  dog. Archie my German Shepherd was mine. We lost him nearly five years ago. He was the best boy in the world and my best friend as Mac was yours I bet. He looks lovely in your picture and yes I’d like to see photos of your other dogs.

What happened to the the caravan park and how do you spend your days now you are retired ?

My sister says I’m a strong character but I don’t feel it at the moment going through wd, so focusing on keeping fit and  work keep me going.  And of course walking Georgie; and yes Georgie is a rescue dog.

Glad today has been a better day for you Sass hope tomorrow is even better :) .

How are you Softcell ?

The story of Georgie my staffi cross dog.

I’ve had Georgie for just over two years now. Somebody that worked for me brought her in to say hello,  she belonged to this persons daughter. Georgie was really timid  and hid under the chair. Fur was missing from her ears and her back legs and she shook. She had a ridiculously silly long name at the time that I couldn’t pronounce.

Anyway the people she belonged to were drug users and it turned out the bold patches on Georgies fur was from their small son squirting her with disinfectant.

After 4 months they tired of Georgie and wanted to get rid of her . I decided I would take her and find her a good home . Fast forward two years and Georgie is still with me. In all that time I can’t really say I took to her. You see previous to Georgie I had a German Shepherd  called Archie. I loved him so much  he was such a good boy. He collapsed and died just before his 6th bday and it hit me really hard. So when Georgie came along a few years later I just couldn’t take to her. I liked her but I didn’t love her. And on and off over the two years I still had plans to find her a good home.. just not with me.

But somehow somewhere along the line things have changed. They say something good comes from something bad and that’s where the change has occurred.

You see from the start of this nightmare journey through wd Georgie has been my one constant. She’s there to greet me at the door when I get home and I’m feeling scared of what’s to come tomorrow. She’s always happy to see me even when I don’t feel like speaking . She always lifts me up when I’m feeling low by bringing me one of her toys as sharing is caring and she won’t stop plonking the toy on my lap knowing I can’t stand the flea bitten thing and have to throw it off to which it’s plonked back several more times because look I’m responding !!

And no matter how bad a day I’m having Georgie loves her walks so each afternoon we’re over the park and watching her race and throw herself into a gambol on the grass always manages to put a smile on my face.

So yeah I’m keeping Georgie and yeah I’ve grown to love her she my withdrawal not so normal dog.

Hi LRH,

thanks for writing about Georgie, you have a gift for writing.

My partner and I have a dog, Beso, and he’s my companion on daily walks through the woods. His joy in simple things is so uplifting, and his presence is very calming.

Hi LRH

Hope your day went well.

Bit short of time ( retired, what do I do Hummmmmmmmm). Explain later.

You do not seem to need a lot of sleep, wish I could say the same.

I am sorry to hear about Archie, GSD longevity is not the greatest but six years is very young.

My wife always had GSDs from before we met, the last one Danny died at 8.

When he was a pup he would not settle down at night so she would sing Danny Boy to him.

If she hears it on TV or radio there is still a tear 10 years later.

I have tried downloading pics but I think they must restrict bandwidth, understandable as it costs money.

My wife would love to see Archie so I will give you my email. Pretty sure you are not a stalker by now, anyway you could not possibly be that desperate☺️

I  will send you my email by pm rather than on the open forums.

If you want to give give email I will send the pics but fully understand if you do not.

Got to go hope you get your beauty sleep tonight.

Take care

Hello LRH.
