You can take Tylenol or ibuprofen.

Hope it subsides quickly.

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

Hi @Frogie, I try to avoid both as they really don’t play nice with my stomach.
the last 24 hours have been pretty rough, the WD symptoms have been pretty brutal. Even today I have to go to work but I’m struggling tbh.
Might be my body telling me I went to fast. If symptoms like this persist or worsen I don’t think I could handle it.
considering RI @ 3.75mg to start and see how it goes.
Let me know what you think

Oct2021- Nov2021 2 weeks 15mg mirtazapine (stupidly skipped a couple of doses)

Nov2021- Dec2021 3 weeks 30mg mirtazapine

Dec2021-Jan2022 2 weeks CT

05Jan2022- 06Jan2022 - 2 days RI @ 7.5mg mirtazapine (experienced severe dizziness)

07Jan2022 - 19Mar2022 cessation

19Mar2022 RI @ 1mg

21Mar2022 Ud @ 1.5mg (not feeling great)

You definitely tapered way too fast.

If your headaches persist you could try eating some crackers or toast to take a tylenol. That may help.

If you wish to reinstate, I would suggest starting out at 1 mg. You can always increase it if needed.

About reinstating and stabilizing to stop withdrawal symptoms

If you don't wish to reinstate, you can find ways to manage the symptoms while your body heals from the withdrawal from Mirtazapine.

Thanks @Frogie. I think this is part of the problem at the moment, I can’t make the decision which way to head toward, although ultimately I’m the only one who can make the decision.
All of this is such an unknown for me so trusting my gut is difficult. Short term symptoms definitely make it really tough to push through, but it’s just the concern of doing long term damage.
I also don’t want to prolong the potential for RI opportunity if that may gain me some mild relief in the shorter term.
I’m rambling at this point, so apologies.

I have seen some people on similar doses to me reinstate at 3.5mg, but if I do, I’ll try 1mg as you’ve suggested.

You’re not rambling at all, you’re just very confused right now which is very understandable.

Like you said, only you can decide if reinstatement is something you want to do. It’s a tough decision to make.

If you do decide to reinstate I’ll be here, along with everyone else on here to help you.

Thanks @Frogie

100%! Im rarely uncertain about anything so this is really throwing me for a loop.

Im going to be taking some time off at the end of Jan, so maybe i'll try and hang on until then.

I think the issue is, i'm dealing with WD from the first drop and the CT at the same time which is sending my brain haywire and seems to be a 'stacking' effect.

It's really tough (as i'm sure you know) but i really want off this stuff given what its already doing to me, so i guess i should try and continue on.

At this point, it's been 3 months since i've felt 'good,' so i need to try and keep that want as my mantra while i take on each day.

If symptoms do get worse though, i will definitely try a very low-dose RI. Even if thats not my ideal situation, it may be whats best for my body.

I will keep you posted however i proceed.

Maybe taking some time off will give you time do think about it and read some articles.

Hopefully you'll start feeling better at that point.

But don't hesitate to ask questions. If I don't know the answer I'll sure find it for you!

@Frogie At this point im really worried about going through months (or years) of these symptoms, as well as the regret of not starting slow, and i think im going to take the safe route and low-dose RI.

As i understand it, if i notice some improvement in symptoms after roughly a week, i should hold for at least a couple of months? Also does this mean that if the inverse is true, i'll need to updose?

@Frogie bit of an interesting development.. pls bare with me here, but if a long run-up!

So, since Oct last year, I’ve been dealing with a health issue as a result of something (which I can’t talk about here) and was prescribed mirt for a symptom of this, which was a lazy diagnosis.
I’ve finally managed to get in with a doctor in my city that treats the issue I’ve had, first part of here treatment plan is fluvoxamine. I know speaking to lots of people that it’s highly effective in this case.
Now, I’m still not taking my low-dose mirt, but will have to make the switch at some point which i know is far from ideal.
would it be slightly safer to continue cessation until the doc prescribes me the fluvox, or RI super low on mirt now and give it a few weeks before I start the fluvox?

what I can tell you is I’m suffering from neural inflammation which the fluvox is very effective for.

If I do take it, I will certainly safe-taper coming off this time!

Any thoughts would be appreciated, as it’s a very delicate situation.

I'm sorry to her that you have a condition that requires some medication of this sort.

If you could hold off, I would start the fluvoxamine. That just means you would only have to taper off of one medication, instead of the two.

Me too @Frogie. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to enlighten the friendly readers a little more.
Thanks for the feedback, that was my best guess, also it gives me a chance to try and do things right this time. Given the pounding I’ve likely given my CNS, I’m going to have to a pretty slow taper.
Really appreciate your sage-like guidance here, will post updates, maybe a little less frequent.

Update; last week have been waking at 4am and pretty bad anxiety, passes later in the day, but first 4 hours everyday have been really difficult.

afternoons haven’t been too bad, slightly less headaches but the looming mornings is beginning to affect me.
Going to try and book a Telehealth with my doc and see if she can give me access to the new ADs. I thought I had the strength to do this without meds, but I don’t think I can ;(

@FrogieEvening update.
woke 4am with immediate anxiety. Breathing exercises provided minimal relief.
felt constricted muscles and stressed. Stomach very upset and feeling nauseous.  Woke at 6 and ate berries, chia and coconut yoghurt for breakfast.
Left for work at 730, still feeling anxious and sick in stomach. Feeling didn’t subside, immediately after lunch felt very dizzy and came home. Laid on couch and felt nauseated for 3 hours then miraculously felt fine. Went to acupuncture and felt relaxed, but the 36C temp outside made life tough.
came home snd nausea and dizziness persists to dinner time.

may not be able to access my new fluvox script til next week :(

So desperate for short-term relief, I just really want some sort of stability.
TLDR ; This sucks a fat one.

It’s been nearly 2 months and I haven’t had a single day of feeling ‘okay’

at this point, maybe taking up a religion is a good option, because I’m out of other ideas. I’ve only got myself to blame though, I should’ve just committed to the long road from the start.

Nausea is horrible. I had it though my Lexapro taper.

Have you tried eating some saltine crackers?

Peppermint tea helps as does ginger capsules.

You're doing the best you can with the anxiety. Here's a couple links, if I haven't already given to you.

How long before you can get in to see the new dr? If it's a few days, I would do my best to hold tight if you can. I know it's difficult.

If it's longer than a week or more you could reinstate a very small dose and then taper off of it as soon as you hit stability.

Do you think you could handle it until Monday until she does the assessment? You could ask her (very nicely) if you should reinstate at that time and then we could go from there. If she thinks she could give some advise Monday, then I would hold off. I know that's quite a few more days. Do you think you could handle it until Monday? If not, you could reinstate at maybe 2 mg and that might help get you stable enough to get through the week until she decides what is best for you. What do you think?

Thanks @Frogie. Will keep you posted, just a mini panic episode at lunchtime. The anxiety seems to be sticking around for a bit, but probably not helping that I’m having sleep issues.
The anxiety episodes are starting to effect my work, which is not helping things.
I’m trying to stick it out, but if it’s not just a wave and is some original issues occurring that may be problematic.
I guess we’ll see in time

Have you tried melatonin? That helps sleep issues in some. Hopefully you can can hold on just a few more days and you’ll get the relief you’ve been expecting.

Lots of deep breaths and try to distract as much as possible.

Hi @Frogie late week update.
Mood most of this week has been not too bad, but just this morning I’ve had really bad anxiety. Holding on for dear life at times.
Sleep still disrupted, waking at 4am like clockwork.
Im starting to realise, regardless of how it’s come about, that I may need meds for a while going forward. I really don’t think I can cope like this for months or years. Also with the impending mandates around C-word, it’s going to be a really stressful year.
Hopefully my doc can get me access to the fluvoxamine soon, I’d really rather stay away from mirt, but if I have to I’ll RI. I really need some relief.

It sounds like you’ve had a pretty stressful week, but you’ve been able to handle it. The waking early is the pits. I do that every morning. That’s more cortisol and very common in wd. When is the dr going to give you the fluvoxamine? Let me know if you have to wait much longer and you may have to reinstate a small dose to get you by.

Hi @Frogieyeah it’s been pretty rough. The waking early, nausea, immediate anxiety isn’t helping with the stress of all the new rules for us in Australia. I’m really struggling without any moments of respite or relief currently.
doc appt is tomorrow, but she may want to do some testing for a few days. The other thing I’m worried about is starting a new drug with the state my CNS is in might throw me for a loop!?

So even though your finished your taper, you’re still experiencing early morning cortisol spikes this far in?

I have cortisol spikes around 4 am, but it is really normal because that is when the body starts waking because it will start getting light and that's when the body reacts to everything.

So, do you think you can hold out even though it might be as rough as it is. You can reinstate a very small dose to see if that would help?

@Frogieyikes, I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to waking up like this it’s horrible :(

Yeah I’m going to wait and see what she says tomorrow and take it from there. Even if medicated, I really need some healing time. Hopefully I can heal my gut at the same time with diet and let my brain relax a bit. The mirt has really messed my whole system up

You will heal from the cortisol spikes but it is not fun. My "hubby" has never been on anything and cortisol spikes. That's how normal it is.

I hope she will get you going asap. Maybe if you explain your situation she will see you as a need to get going.

You can try eating more fruits, veggies and lean protein. Nothing spicy or greasy. That might help.

Keep me posted as to what happens tomorrow🙂

@Frogieits not something I’ve ever had to deal with before so it’s really unnerving I guess. Especially being so tired and full of adrenaline at the same time is a scary sensation.
Yeah hopefully she will get me straight on some sort of treatment. Previous to all of this starting I don’t think I had anxiety, but it seems give the events of the last months it’s become a self fulfilling prophecy.

I completely understand the anxiety stuff. I was placed on Xanax for another medical, condition, not anxiety. But I sure have it now.

In time you will heal from it, but it's the pits. Have you tried melatonin? It helps a lot on here.

Hopefully this will end for you soon and then you can stabilize and we can help you get off the other when you are prepared.

@Frogiei have used it in the past (years ago) and it seemed to help with sleep. I’m wary because I have seen lots of others say it can mess with mirt withdrawal (along with just about anything else that seems

to provide relief). Because mirt is such a strong histamine antagonist, my understanding is it takes the body longer to readjust than some others because it really messes with those receptors. I’m not a doctor though, so maybe I should just try it and see if I have any luck

If you do try it, I would only try maybe 0.3 mg. That seems to be the sweet spot for most. More is not better when it comes to melatonin.
