papaloapan
I want to know how to detox from all the psychiatric drugs that I took in order to make possible for my body not to need to take them anymore and to eliminate all the side effects that the psych drugs gave me. This is all the drugs that I took from psychiatrists: when I was 16 years old I took first paxil and rivotril (clonazepam) for a year and then only epival er (valproate semisodium) for a year and Then when I got 21 I took paxil and rivotril for 6 months. I changed to a 2nd psychiatrist he gave me symbyax (olanzapine and fluoxetine) I was with him for 4 months, then I went with a 3rd shrink that gave me lamictal and abilify for 6 months so then I changed with a 4th doctor which was a "neurologist" who gave me strattera for ADD and told me to go with his partner who is another psychiatrist (5th doctor) who added me sertraline, topamax (topiramate), olanzapine, lamictal, and because of the tachycardia that were produce by this drugs he added inderalici for my tachycardia. So after 7 months with this doctor I went with a 6th doctor that gave me paxil, rivotril, lithium and for my ADD he gave me methylphenidate (commercial name is tradea LP which is similar to Concerta). After 6 months with this doctor I changed to a 7th doctor that gave me sertraline in a very high dose and with this I decided to stop taking that pill a was taking but in a one day span it caused me to have a psychosis that made my father send male nurses to kidnapped and locked into a clinic (like hospitalization), in which the skrink that trated me was the one that treated me when I was 16 and he injected me haldol and gave pills more haldol, biperiden, triazolam and risperdal. I LIVED HELL WITH THESE DRUGS. Then the shrink after he saw that I recover reality, I was super depressed so he gave me citalpram but it didn't work so he gave me paxil and lithium. Then I started coming off meds and now I just take one quarter of a lithium pill every day in the morning. My actual side effects that I want to eliminate are: anxiety, very strong heart palpitaions or beats/beating that cause bad breathing and chest pain, difficulty to take decisions, nausea, extreme itching in my face, head, chest and back, buzz in the ears, difficulty to focus or concentrate, bad short-term memory, and wanting to pee all the time. Thank you very much. Edited May 29, 2017 by scallywag tags In 2008 I was 16 years old. 2008 - 2010 paxil, clonazepam & semisodium valproate. 2013 - 2017 many psych meds with cold switches and CT's prescribed by psychiatrists. Nov/30/17 started quetiapine IR tablets 100mg 0-0-1. Dec/1/17 started pristiq 50mg tablets 1-0-0. Jan/14/18 started 1.5mg melatonin 0-0-1 Tramadol: 2 year well done (slow and gradual) taper: from Mar/12/18 to Feb/11/20 Pristiq taper: Jun/15/20 Converted from pristiq 50mg to efexor xr 75mg for 57 days (felt good). Aug/11/20 weaned to efexor 37.5mg and stayed there for 2 months with 26 days (felt good). Nov/6/20 CT 0mg of efexor xr (felt good). Total time in tapering pristiq 50mg by converting to efexor xr 75mg: 4 months with 22 days: Jun/15/20 to Nov/6/20. (felt good) Efexor 0mg and quetiapine 100mg (Nov/6/20 to Dic/11/20) (felt good being without effexor and taking 100mg quetiapine) Dic/11/20 quetiapine 75mg, so 75mg from Dic/11/20 to Jan/4/21 25 days. Jan/5/21 quetiapine 50mg (1 day in 50mg). Jan/6/21 1st CT of quetiapine. Mar/1/21 CT melatonin. Felt terrible so Mar/25/21 reinstated 100mg quetiapine. 100mg quetiapine 19 days (Mar/25/21 - Apr/13/21) Felt good while in quetiapine 100mg. 75mg quetiapine 55 days (Apr/14/21 - Jun/8/21) the 55th day (Jun/8/21) felt hellish so CT'd quetiapine for a 2nd time on Jun/9/21. Jun/9/21 - Nov/16/21 1st days insomnia, anxiety, took cbd and felt very good many days (healed insomnia & anxiety), CT'd ginkgo which made me felt terrible so reinstated ginkgo. Started intolerable back pain (spasm) so tried other herbs along with cbd, then started derealization, panic, indecisiveness, nostalgia & others. Stopped taking cbd & herbs, reinstated quetiapine 75mg Nov/17/21, immediately after taking it, had severe heart palpitations, so Nov/18/21 back to cbd (no quetiapine). Nov/20/21 reinstated 75mg quetiapine (stopped cbd & herbs), severely couldn't breathe for 5 seconds after taking quetiapine 75mg so reduced to 50 mg on Nov/28/21 had new and worse and very severe adverse effects, got indecisive if CT or keep taking quetiapine because I was terrified of CT, but since the new severe adverse effects were very severe I CT, and because of indecisiveness and panic to CT, I reinstated again, then CT'd and reinstated many times, last time I was taking quetiapine it was 25mg and had severe TD, hellish anhedonia, suicidal, intrusive thoughts of imagining myself running into a wall and crashing into it and I was feeling the pain as if I was doing it in real life, involuntary thoughts of punching my face or head and shashing it against the wall and some times I did punch my face, and when I didn't, I also felt the pain just by imagining it, so definitive CT on Jul/15/22. Free from quetiapine and psych meds since Jul/15/22. MY BEST ADVICE: FOLLOW SA'S GUIDELINES, DON'T CT BECAUSE IT IS HORRIFIC AND BE PATIENT TO WAIT A LONG TIME TO DO VERY SLOW AND GRADUAL TAPERS IN ORDER TO GET OFF OF YOUR MEDICATIONS, IT IS WORTH IT. THE ONLY MOMENTS WHERE IS RIGHT TO CT IS AFTER YOUR 1ST CT THAT YOU DID BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE OR IMPATIENCE, IF YOU REINSTATE AND FEEL SEVERE ADVERSE EFFECTS LIKE TD, ANHEDONIA, FEEL LIKE YOU ARE DROWNING, OR THE ONE'S I HAD, IT IS BEST TO CT IN MY EXPERIENCE, BECAUSE WHEN I REINSTATED I GOT MUCH WORSE THAN WHEN I WAS IN THE PREVIOUS CT. Dwell
Hey papaloapan this should be posted in introductions and updates to get more responses! In short doing a slow taper one drug at a time is recommended here. The admins will.mosy likely recommend doing a 10% taper of a one drug each month to minimize side effects. Hopefully an admin can move this post to intros and you can get more information! Paxil 20mg started around 2013 dropped to 10 mg at some point dropped to 5mg for 1 week then C/T August 2016. Buspar 10 mg 2x daily started 2013 fluctuating amounts. Tried cylexa 1 week at beginning of August 2016. Tried wellbutrin 1 week after cylexa stopped both. I have been off all meds for around 4- 5 years. Link to comment

papaloapan
I was for almost 4 years in psychiatric drugs with 6 psychiatrists ans 2 neurologists. I took all of them: antidepressants, antianxiety, antipsychotics and for ADD. Now I'm just taking lithium and I have been coming off it gradually. Once I tried to come off it faster (because with psych drugs I have always feel bad) but I felt worse when I tried to come off faster so I raised the dose. Now that I'm coming off but I'm still taking lithium I have terrible side effects which are severe anxiety, severe heart palpitations/beats, bad breathing, chest pain, dizziness, difficulty to take decissions, this causes me to feel extremely frustrated, angry and depressed. Right now what I take (my actual dose) is 1st day half of a 300mg lithium pill in the morning, the 2nd day a quarter of a pill, 3rd and 4th day quarter of a pill, and then the 5th day the pattern repeats (half, quarter, quarter, quarter) I know that I have to tapper down slowly by taking off 10% every 2 to 3 weeks . How can I eliminate these terrible side effects? And my other goal is to stop taking lithium forever and to never have to take any psych drug again. I don't know which type of doctor/health practitioner can help me because if psychiatrists eliminate the side effects of their own drugs with more psych drugs (which all of them have caused me damage) how can I find someone that knows how psych drugs affect the body and that also knows how to eliminate side effects from these drugs with other things that are not psych drugs? (or other prescription drugs because all types of prescription drugs have side effects). I'm desperate, please help me. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted May 22, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 22, 2017 Hi Papaloapan, welcome to SA. It is terrible that you have been treated so badly by so many doctors. I wish they would take the drugs that they are prescribing! Can you tell us when you had these drugs? It is quite important that we know wgich drugs you have had in the last year, and how you came off them. Did you taper any of them or just stop them? Changing the doses of lithium is going to make you feel worse, the doses need to be stable and consistent to have constant level in your blood stream. You need to reduce by 10% of the current dose with 3-4 weeks between cuts. Sadly there are no fast ways to detox these drugs. They affect the brain and it takes time for the brain to get back to normal. The drugs change the way the brain works and it has to start working on it's own again when they have been stopped. In time you will get better, but there are no short cuts or drugs that will help. Sometimes it helps to reinstate the drug that has been stopped but you have had so many different drugs it would be very hard to tell which ones to reinstate. Your brain and nervous system are in chaos, and need stability to recover. When we have more details we will be able to see what might help. Tips for tapering lithium http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/2976-tips-for-tapering-off-lithium/ Many people find that magnesium and fish oil help symptoms, I take both and they help a lot. papaloapan
Sure mammaP, the dates/time I had these drugs, approximately, were: 1st psychiatrist paxil and rivotril for 5 months. (austust 2013- december 2013) 2nd psychiatrist that gave me symbyax (olanzapine and fluoxetine) I was with him for 3 months (december 2013- march 2014) 3rd shrink that gave me lamictal and abilify for 3 months (march 2014- may 2015) 4th doctor which was a "neurologist" who gave me strattera for ADD and told me to go with his partner who is another psychiatrist (5th doctor) who added me sertraline, topamax (topiramate), olanzapine, lamictal, and because of the tachycardia that were produce by this drugs he added inderalici for my tachycardia. I LIVED HELL WITH THESE ANTYPSICHOTIC DRUGS After 10 days in the clinic I had risperdal, akineton retard and clonazepam for about 4 months (february 2016- may 2016) Then the shrink after he saw that I recovered reality, I was super depressed so he gave me citalopram for a month (may 2016) but it didn't work so he gave me paxil and lithium (june 2016-october 2016) and in october 2016 I remembered that psych drugs are terrible because with paxil and lithium I felt very suicidal so I decided to stop taking paxil and lithium but obviously gradually so another shrink told me how to tapper them down. Note: Each psychiatrist told me how to tapper down gradually, with the only doctor that I didn't tapper down gradually his drugs was with the 8th doctor which is the reason for which I had psychosis because instead of tappering gradually down I stopped taking that pill in a one day span In 2008 I was 16 years old. 2008 - 2010 paxil, clonazepam & semisodium valproate. 2013 - 2017 many psych meds with cold switches and CT's prescribed by psychiatrists. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted May 22, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 22, 2017 A lot of drugs have been taken and stopped, so many changes and your brain is struggling. I don't think reinstating any of them is likely to help but will ask the other moderators to take a look and see if they agree with me. You need to take the same dose of lithium every day, so that you can stabilise. changing doses is not good. You have been taking lithium for almost a year and you are doing well to taper slowly but the doses need to be consistent. I believe It would be best for now to stop the taper and let your brain recover. When you are stable you can then taper off the last of the lithium. It will take time but your brain will return to normal if you take good care of yourself. Try to avoid taking unnecessary medications and be careful with supplements as they can make things worse. Detoxing drugs is usually about getting them out of your body but these type of drugs change the way the brain works and when they are stopped the brain struggles and tries to compensate. Usually more drugs are added which is what happened to you, and that complicates things futher. In time your brain will recover, you will get better. This post on growing a new brain explains it very well http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/6447-best-of-sa/?p=91582 **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. papaloapan
mammaP I aprreciate A LOT your assistance. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I have not being doing well in the last month of my tappering down of the lithium because I'm feeling a lot of anxiety and it feels like hell. I'm gonna do what you told me about taking omega 3 fatty acid and magnesium in supplements but in your last post you told me to be careful with supplements. Do you know the USANA supplements? Are they good? Or do you recommend me another brand for my magnesium and omega 3 supplements? Also I'll keep the same dose every day for a long time till my anxiety dissapears and that day I'll tapper down again the lithium. My actual dose (pattern) is: 1st day half a 300mg lithium pill in the morning, 2nd day a quarter of a pill, 3rd day and 4th day a quarter of a pill. And then start the pattern again. What should I take now daily in the morning? Half a pill or a quarter of a pill? What else can I do to eliminate this anxiety? Thank you so much In 2008 I was 16 years old. Moderator Emeritus bubble Posted May 23, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 23, 2017 You seem to be learning fast and your brain will be very grateful.I'm not familiar with the brand you mention. When it comes to magnesium we prefer forms such as magnesium citrate or glicinate. For omega 3 it's important that EPA and DHA are at least 1 gram (stronger than what they sell for heart function). How long have you been taking lithium like this: half a pill-quarter pill. I would try to stabilise on a half pill.I'm writing from my phone so can't copy links but there are lots of ideas on how to cope with anxiety in Symptoms and self-care. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted May 23, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 23, 2017 Hopefully the magnesium might help with the anxiety. I take magnesium glycinate, and fish oil capsules. I agree with Bubble that half a tablet might be best because you have tapered quite fast. Take the same dose every day. You started lithium in June 2016, what dose did you start with? You will get better but it will take time. You need to take care of yourself with simple fresh food and gentle exercise. USANA are very expensive and a waste of money when you can get the same quality from the pharmacy or health shop. Amazon have some good deals too. I think NOW brand has been mentioned here as being reliable and good quality. **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. papaloapan
MammaP in june 2016 I started with 3 complete 300mg lithium pills per day, 1 in the morning, 1 at 3pm and 1 at night. Yesterday I decided to now stay with only one quarter of a pill per day (in the morning), but it went bad because right now (this night) I felt horrible, the bad breathing became worse, also I saw colors with my eyes closed (kind of dizzinezz), heart palpitations got worse, because the weather is hot in Mexico City (where I live) I put the fans faster for feeling less hot but I felt hot inside my body (I'm still saying more side effects because of the lithium withdrawal) and also just had a HORRIBLE nightmare from which I just woke up right now so I couldn't sleep and it's 3:30am. I'm scared, I'm desperate because these side effects don't let me be functional for studying amd for work. Yesterday in the morning I had another lithium withdrawal effect which was to feel extremely tired. The psychiatrist that was telling me how to tapper down gradually lithium every 2 weeks and that also asked me how was I feeling in order to also know which was the best new decreased dose for me, is on a trip and is not in Mexico so she stop replying my emails in which I asked her how to continue to tspper down lithium so that's why I decided to tapper down lithium by myself. So I'm going to search for another psychiatrist that doesn't stop telling me how to tapper down lithium. I didn't want to go back up to half a pill every day because I wanted to get faster to get to not take any lithium but I guess I have to go back up to half a pill daily in the morning in order to lower the intensity of these side effects I just mention, right? papaloapan
In these case of emergencies (that I can't sleep this night because I'm extremely afraid of having another nightmare and also because of the side effects), what can I do to feel better right now in order to lower the intensity of the side effects and get some sleep? AliG
Papaloapan. I had insomnia for a long period of time and I found that what helped me the most was to stay calm. Panic and anxiety over not sleeping just seemed to ramp up the symptoms which made sleep even more elusive. Deep breathing helps in a calming way. I would also try an Epsom salt bath as they can induce sleep. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/8321-epsom-salts-baths-another-way-to-relax-with-magnesium/ If you can, perhaps try a guided sleep meditation. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/6122-guided-meditations-calming-videos-sleep-hypnosis/ Magnesium taken throughout the day and particularly at night can help to create a restful state for sleep. Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. papaloapan
Thanks a lot AliG Yesterday, instead of continuing with my regular lithium dose of 1st day (all days I just take only in the morning) half a 300mg lithium pill, 2nd, 3rd and 4th day a quarter of a pill, and then the 5th day the pattern restarts. Yesterday was the 5th day but I decided to instead taking half a pill I took a quarter of a pill because here at survivingantidepressants.org you guys told me that I should take the same dose every day for letting my brain to stabilize again (whichI completely agree) but I didn't do what you told me which was to stay with half a piece of lithium daily because I wanted to get free from lithium faster so I decided to take every day a quarter of a pill so yesterday in the morning I felt more tired than before, and last night I had a dinner supplement which is a chocolate powder that has whey protein, vitamins and minerals. Also I took 1 omega 3 fatty acid capsule-supplement. That night (yesterday) side effects of taking lithium and of it's withdrawal became MUCH MORE intense: excessively rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), couldn't breathe, when I started to sleep I was feeling like I was drowning (getting without air to breathe) so I had to woke up every 20 minutes so even though I layed down in bed at 11pm I fall asleep until 6 in the morning so today I decided to go back up to this dose: 1st day half a pill, 2nd and 3rd day a quarter of a pill, and the 4th day start the pattern again. I did these because the stupid psyquiatrist that was telling me how to tapper down is on a trip and she's not in Mexico so I can not contact her. I guess I need to find another psychiatrist that can stay always in touch with me for every 2 weeks telling me how to tapper down. The days before yesterday I didn't take in the dinner the omega 3 fatty acid supplement and the chocolate powder dinner supplement but I did take only a magnesium supplement and I could sleep good In 2008 I was 16 years old. 2008 - 2010 paxil, clonazepam & semisodium valproate. 2013 - 2017 many psych meds with cold switches and CT's prescribed by psychiatrists. papaloapan
Is it worth it to go with a doctor and get comprehensive health tests (blood tests, thyroid test, etc) to make the doctor determine which parts/organs of my body got damaged by lithium but since Medical doctors treat the body only with more drugs (and I don't want more drugs because all of them, not only psychiatric drugs, have side effects) should I go with a nutritionist? Or would this be just a waste of money and time because only going back up to a higher dose of lithium and stay there for a while till my brain and body recover and then tapper down gradually, would this restore my overall health/lower the intensity of the lithium side effects? Please put your withdrawal history in your signature This Lithium schedule: You need to stabilize at a consistent dose: perhaps a half pill every day. The main thing is to be very consistent as this " up & down " is jiggling the brain around. Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. ZombieMode
Hi Papaloapan, (mod note: please see this Post) I detoxed 400mg abilify (antipsychotic) injections successfully.I tapered down to 200mg (100mg reduction per 2 months) and then quit cold turkey. My psychiatrist monitored me and said it would be OK.I detoxed with vegetable juices (kale, carrot, ginger, apple, lemon, celeey). I took reishi mushroom, gotu kola and I think rhodolia. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted May 26, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 26, 2017 Papaloapan you really need to be taking regular doses of lithium. If you were taking 300 three times a day, you were taking even doses to keep a steady level in your blood. When you started to take the different doses the blood levels became unstable. Now you are down to one quarter of a pill each day your blood levels are very unstable and making you sick. You need to take one quarter, three times each day. You are tapering very very fast and need to stabilise. **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. papaloapan
Ok MammaP, I'll take that dose starting right now. Also I'm going to schedule right now an appointment with the psychiatrist that was telling me how to tapper down gradually the lithium for her to continue to tell me how to keep tappering down gradually. After starting that dose, when will I stop having this anxiety attacks? Someday I will feel good again? It is hard to believe that I'll be fine again. I can't stand no more the anxiety attakcs which I feel almost all the time. I'm tired of living In 2008 I was 16 years old. Nov/20/21 reinstated 75mg quetiapine (stopped cbd & herbs), severely couldn't breathe for 5 seconds after taking quetiapine 75mg so reduced to 50 mg on Nov/28/21 had new and worse and very severe adverse effects, got indecisive if CT or keep taking quetiapine because I was terrified of CT, but since the new severe adverse effects were very severe I CT, and because of indecisiveness and panic to CT, I reinstated again, then CT'd and reinstated many times, last time I was taking quetiapine it was 25mg and had severe TD, hellish anhedonia, suicidal, intrusive thoughts of imagining myself running into a wall and crashing into it and I was feeling the pain as if I was doing it in real life, involuntary thoughts of punching my face or head and shashing it against the wall and some times I did punch my face, and when I didn't, I also felt the pain just by imagining it, so definitive CT on Jul/15/22. papaloapan
I don't want to live anymore but I don't have the balls to kill myself, I've been through this already many times. The only thing that makes me happy is singing and writing songs which I'm pursuing as a career but I can't even sing since 3 months ago because the stress that I have, which is caused by lithium, has caused me cough/coughing in my throat In 2008 I was 16 years old. 2008 - 2010 paxil, clonazepam & semisodium valproate. 2013 - 2017 many psych meds with cold switches and CT's prescribed by psychiatrists. Madeleine
Things will improve. Have faith. I've been through this a few times too. I have hope that finally with the information and knowledge I have I will taper slowly and be fine, it's scary and tiresome and difficult but there are many of us here who are going through the same thing. If you can't sing right now find something music related you can enjoy, even if it's just listening to others singing or watching movies about singers etc. Try to enjoy that until you feel better enough to sing. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted May 31, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 31, 2017 Don't give up, things will get better and you will look back on this time and be so thankful that you kept going. When you are feeling at rock bottom you need to talk to someone, we can offer advice and support about the drugs and the effects of them but are not trained to help people who are feeling suicidal. We do feel for you, many, many of us here have felt that way or are feeling that way now and we emphasise that person to person contact is very important. Take a look at the topic we have on help for those feeling suicidal, hopefully, there will be someone there who you can contact to talk to. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/7619-for-those-who-are-feeling-desperate-or-suicidal/ I hope you are feeling a little better today. **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. Moderator Emeritus JanCarol Posted May 31, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 31, 2017 Hey PapaLoapan - Is it worth it to go with a doctor and get comprehensive health tests (blood tests, thyroid test, etc) to make the doctor determine which parts/organs of my body got damaged by lithium but since Medical doctors treat the body only with more drugs (and I don't want more drugs because all of them, not only psychiatric drugs, have side effects) should I go with a nutritionist? With lithium it is important to do this. Lithium can become toxic in kidneys and liver, and they don't talk about this much - but to your thyroid too. If you go to a doctor, and you are calm and in control when you ask for what you want (blood tests: lithium levels, kidney and liver tests, and thyroid tests including Free T3, Free T4) - then they may not feel the need to medicate you. It's when you present with a problem - like anxiety or excitability, restlessness, anger, standing up for your rights - that they will see you as "a problem to be solved." That's when the prescription pad comes out. If your blood tests turn out to have problems from the lithium, the doctor may suggest an alternative like valproate or lamtrigine. You have the right to refuse, and if you refuse calmly, you should be find. You can always politely take the scripts then it's up to you - whether you want to pay to fill the script - or just leave it in a file "just in case" or throw it away. Unless you are on a Treatment Order of some sort (I don't know legal terms where you are), and are obligated by Law to take the drugs as prescribed. But if you are volunteering, asking for help - you have more choice. Be calm in a doctor's office, always. Excitability gets the prescriptions. * * * I'm glad to hear you are taking 150 mg every day of the lithium. Please stay there for at least 3 months, or - until you are stable for a month. Then wait another month before tapering again. You may still have residual withdrawals from the drugs you quite in October. Please put this in your signature (please complete or correct the green parts): Multiple cocktails & fast switching - Aug 2013 - Feb 2016 Paxil (what dose?) - June-October 2016 (fast taper Oct 2016? Or was this a Cold Turkey?) Lithium 900 mg June - October 2016 Lithium 600 mg - when? Lithium 300 mg - when? Alternating doses with 150 / 75 mg on a 4 day cycle until May 2017 Lithium 150 mg May 2017 I was able to taper my lithium down by using different size tablets. I had 450 mg XR and 250 mg instant release. I could mix up different combinations of quarter-and half tablets so that my taper was fairly close to 10%. It is, as moderators have been telling you, absolutely vital that you keep this dose the same. You may be served by getting a digital scale. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1596-using-a-digital-scale-to-measure-doses/ Also - are you still on other drugs for ADD or tachycardia? * * * "Detox" is not the right way to think about it. Imagine that the drugs have been a warm bath. "detox" is like a cold shower after a warm bath. It is hard enough that the bath drains away, and you are left exposed to the wind - but a detox is much harsher than that. It's not about "getting the drugs out of the system," instead it's more about keeping stable and steady as you sneak the drugs away from your brain and nervous system. Moderator Emeritus JanCarol Posted May 31, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted May 31, 2017 PS - Papaloapan you really need to be taking regular doses of lithium. Tips for Tapering off Lithium Lithium has a half life of 24 hours, but when you break the capsule, it might be quicker. My psychiatrist was happy for me to be taking it 2x a day. I would start there. 75 mg am and 75 mg pm, to achieve a steady dose. papaloapan
First I want to tell all of you that I'm very grateful for your time on reading my posts and your caring. Jan Carol right now I feel very tired so I don't have enough energy to search for the prescriptions in which probably I can find how I tappered down lithium and the other drugs. I just talked to my psychiatrist and she told me that staying with half of a 300mg lithium carbonate pill is ok, so I'll stay in this dose till my body and brain recovers. Right now I feel lots of anxiety, I can't stay still watching TV, I mean I can stay lie down on the couch but I have to change position or move some parts of my body because of this horrible anxiety, like akathisya but in very low level because I don't have to stand up and walk to another room of my house. Also my very annoying and tiring anxiety includes the irregular strong hearbeats and breathlessness. In the meanwhile/time that I keep with this same dose every day in order to wait for my body and brain to recover from the constant changes of lithium carbonate dose I did in the past, aside of the epsom salt baths, what else can I do to decrease this horrible withdrawal symptoms? I was reading the "Symptoms and self-care" -> "Important topics about symptoms including sleep problems" but I'm so tired and feel so bad that I can't keep reading In 2008 I was 16 years old. THE ONLY MOMENTS WHERE IS RIGHT TO CT IS AFTER YOUR 1ST CT THAT YOU DID BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE OR IMPATIENCE, IF YOU REINSTATE AND FEEL SEVERE ADVERSE EFFECTS LIKE TD, ANHEDONIA, FEEL LIKE YOU ARE DROWNING, OR THE ONE'S I HAD, IT IS BEST TO CT IN MY EXPERIENCE, BECAUSE WHEN I REINSTATED I GOT MUCH WORSE THAN WHEN I WAS IN THE PREVIOUS CT. papaloapan
Of course these withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, kind of akathysia, irregular heartbeats, breathlessness) cause that even if I I go to bed at 11 I fall asleep until 5am. papaloapan
Please I would love to know also a solution to another symptom that I have since I'm on lithium: I have cough/coughing, frequently my throat feels dry as I inhale through my nose. Moderator Emeritus SkyBlue Posted June 4, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted June 4, 2017 Papaloapan, you have really been through a lot. Glad you found this forum. This is a useful checklist for keeping track of all the symptoms you are experiencing: http://drglenmullen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/AS-Appendix-1.pdf 2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide, I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever. 2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds. 2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better. Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted June 6, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted June 6, 2017 Just hang in there and things will settle down. You need time to let your nervous system stabilise. Symptoms will change, some will get better and others will start. This is the way the body heals. Keep to a consistent dose, every day to get stable. **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. papaloapan
Guys I need your help to take a decision. My psychiatrist tells me that the dose of lithium that I'm taking can't give me all the symptoms that I have (which are a lot and I can't stand them no more). I tell her that it has not only been the lithium responsible for all the symptoms that I have but also the numerous changes of doses that I did. Even in youtube videos anybody can find many lithium side effects my stupid psychistrist doesn't know that lithium can cause. Of course I don't trust my psychiatrist or any psychiatrist because they haven't take all the drugs they prescribe so that's why they don't know all their side effects. My psychiatrist just told me to get a thyroid blood test and I turned out fine but since I'm suffering hellishly many symptoms, obviously there's something wrong in my body damaged by lithium that is not my thyroid. I can't sleep but also I have many HELLISH symptoms. I don't know when I'm going to stabilise. Today is my 6th day with the same lithium dose (half a 300mg pill every day in the morning). But since my body really can't stand no more all these hellish side effects (which are at least 15) I want you to tell me if it's good for me to go with a medical doctor a friend of mine recommended me because this doctor is the best one in mexico (i live in mexico city) to diagnose/determine what is the cause that produces of all the symptoms a person is suffering. In 2008 I was 16 years old. 2008 - 2010 paxil, clonazepam & semisodium valproate. 2013 - 2017 many psych meds with cold switches and CT's prescribed by psychiatrists. Moderator Emeritus scallywag Posted June 8, 2017 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted June 8, 2017 papaloapan - Most of us here have found that the best explanation for our symptoms is that our brains and CNS (central nervous system) have made changes in response to the medications and that those changes need to be undone when we stop or reduce dose of the medication. Seeing a medical doctor can SOMETIMES be helpful, and sometimes life-saving, to rule out other possible causes of the symptoms. When the medical professionals can't find an explanation for your symptoms then your symptoms are likely caused by the destabilization of your CNS (central nervous system). This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.1997-1999 Effexor; 2002-2005 Effexor XR 37.5 mg linear taper, dropping same #beads/week with bad results Cymbalta 60 mg 2012 - 2015; 2016: 20 mg to 7 mg exact doses and dates in this post; 2017: 6.3 mg to 0.0 mg Aug. 12; details here scallywag's IntroductionOnline spreadsheet for dose taper calculations and nz11's THE WORKS spreadsheet Link to comment
