Hallo everyone.

I am still on 15 mg fluoxetine. Scared to lower it just yet.
I can already feel more connected to the world and being more upset of the evil that is happening all over.
So to protect myself I have deleted all my social media accounts and last one was YouTube which has some disturbing videos of all kinds and I don’t want to attribute too.

Sometimes I miss the good old days where there was no internet and people were more present and appreciated of the ordinary every day of life. I am trying to live like that as much as I can. I know what triggers me and not dwelling in my head is always positive and good for me.
I am travelling with my parents to Rome in a few days. I am excited but also nervous.
I need to believe in myself, but always afraid in the back of my mind of panic and stress.

I can do this 🙏

Thank you dear @arbor for your kind words and your support, I appreciate it💕

So for some update.

I am doing good these days on 15 mg fluoxetine. Last time I went from 20 to 15 I could feel anxiety popping up, but this time it’s almost never present as in physical symptoms, but mostly in my head. I take that as a good sign, that this time my body has come along way  being without Paxil. Fingers crossed 🤞

My anxiety has come up strongly once, and at that time I put my head phones on and listened to my headspace app. I was happy to be able to calm myself down with some meditation and it gave me strength and hope that I might have found a good coping skill that I can reach to in the future.

Now I have been on 15 mg for a while now , and I am starting to contemplate if I should trop a little and see how it goes.

That’s it for now, don’t want to overthink things.

Take care everyone, hugs to all🙏

Note to myself and others who are struggling.

From the book The power of now by Eckhart Tolle.

Are you worried? Do you have many "what if' thoughts? You are identified with your mind, which is projecting itself into an imaginary future situation and creating fear. There is no way that you can cope with such a situation, because it doesn't exist. It's a mental phantom. You can stop this health- and life-corroding insanity simply by acknowledging the present moment. Become aware of your breathing. Feel the air flowing in and out of your body. Feel your inner energy field. All that you ever have to deal with, cope with, in real life -- as opposed to imaginary mind projections -- is this moment. Ask yourself what "problem" you have right now, not next year, tomorrow, or five minutes from now. What is wrong with this moment ?You can always cope with the now, but never with the future -- nor do you have to. The answer, the strength, the right action or the resource will be there when you need it, not before, not after.
"One day I'll make it." Is your goal taking up so much of your attention that you reduce the present moment to a means to an end? Is it taking the joy out of your doing? Are you waiting to start living? If you develop such a mind pattern, no matter what you achieve or get, the present will never be good enough; the future will always seem better. A perfect recipe for permanent dissatisfaction and nonfulfillment, don't you agree?
Are you a habitual "waiter"? How much of your life do you spend waiting?

Eckhart Tolle

Happy holidays to you all💕

Hallo dear community and happy holidays. Hope you have experienced piece and joy in what ever form that meant joyful for you.

Today I reduced my dosage by 7% of 14 mg. Staying at 13 mg.

I know it’s small reduction, but it suits me. I need to be very careful. I will not make the same mistake twice. So slow and steady is my goal.
I am very optimistic now, as I have not had many panic attacks since I decreased under 15 mg. I am so happy about this.

I am doing this now all alone, have not told anyone in my family, only one good friend, who actually doesn’t understand, but that’s ok.
I am going now on this journey by myself, with you beside me.

I always like to tell my positives which are now;

I have never been so calm at this low point 🙏 I pray it keeps on going in this direction for me.

I do have nausea feeling here and there, but I can cope with that.

My precious dog helps me a lot. I just wouldn’t be able to do this with out her.

Love to all💕

Hallo

I have a cousin that has recently started 40 mg of fluoxetine. She loves the way she feels. I don’t reqognise her anymore. She seems and is all over the place with no morals anymore. This is a good friend of mine, I don’t know what to do anymore. The personality change is overwhelming.
Why on earth do doctors  think medications is the key to happiness and well being?

Makes me so sad, and more determined to quit .

Hi Hanna,

I guess you should keep warning her about the alarming danger of these drugs if you care this much about her. Make her visit SA here and keep telling her about your experiment.

i wasn't on a certain drug all the period. i took many drugs many times and for no very long period but to simplify.

--fluvoxamine maleate100 mg + amisulpride 200mg------started july 2012 and total taper in february 2015 ( 9 months without drugs then)

--sertraline 100mg -------started november 2015 and total taper (withoud reduction slowly) in november 2016( 4 months withoud drugs then).

--sertraline 100mg + quetiabine 25mg ( started in mars 2016 and for 7 months) then fluvoxamine maleate 100mg again for another 7months and after that a something like to use every drug for 14 days and for about 1.5 years.

--my last drug was trintellix 10 mg ( used it in 12/2018and total taper in 4/2019).

symptomts i have now ( bad concentration and problems in short and long memory+ bad depersonalization).

Hi Hanna,  I'm glad to see that you are down to 13 mg and things are getting a bit better.

I'm on a similar journey with paxil.

Just wanted to ask: do you still get nausea or low appetite whenever you reduce the dosage? Is it getting better after a while?

I just made a 10% drop and lost my appetite again.

2017 - 2018 Lexapro (CT, no withdrawals)  2018 - 2019 Zoloft (CT, no withdrawals)

2/15/21 - paxil 20mg

5/1/22 - started fast tapter,  10mg 3 weeks, 5mg 3 weeks, 0mg 2 days.   7/1/22 - start of withdrawals, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, shaky. Reinstated 10mg

8/1/22 - 9mg - anxiety, panic attacks, sleep disorders (4-6 hours)  9/1/22 - 8mg - anxiety, panic attacks are gone. Sleep back to normal. Still struggling with appetite. Sporadic abdominal cramps  10/10/22 - 7.2 mg   11/10/22 - 6.6 mg - Tinnitus started after 2 weeks. Nausea is gone and appetite is slowly returning.

12/12/22 - 6 mg  1/11/23- 5.4 mg  1/13/23- 6 mg (up dosed) nausea is back in full force 5/9/23 - changed to home made liquid (dissolves 20mg in 20ml) - 5.9ml

Hi @CloudyToday nice meeting you here.
I was just catching up with your thread to see were you are at.

4 hours ago, CloudyToday said:

Yes unfortunately I still get nauseous now and again, but it’s mangeable. I have not lost my appetite. How ever I have always experienced loss of appetite and a lot of nausea when I got to low dosage of Paxil.
If I were you I would take it slowly now with the tapering, as you are at only 6 mg ( well done by the way) The lower we get, the more careful and aware we need to be. Being as functional and with the smallest withdrawals symptoms is in my opinion and experience the key to be able to get off of the drug. Believe me I have been too eager to wanting off as soon as possible, with the outcome of needing to reinstate, there for making my journey longer in the long run.
You might want to hold for few weeks at the 6 mg. Let your body and brain settle, and it will, it  just takes time.
Also when you drop next time, you can do smaller cuts ( under 10%) to see how that affects you.

No rush, keep it slow and steady. Paxil is a very hard drug to come off of.

Hope this helps.

Let’s go 💪

@Hanna72, thank you so much for the detailed answer.

When I first tapered fast to zero I lost my appetite for 4 months. From there it comes and goes and I suspect it is due to my 10% taper, so I will try smaller cuts, maybe 2% every week.

Thanks again Hanna, take care.

Hi @CloudyToday

I am glad to answer you when ever you need. If I can help you out.

For me personally I have to be clear on that in my past tapers I always went to fast. And yes I had extreme nausea and the lower I got, I lost my appetite. I am so sorry you are experiencing this, it’s awful.

56 minutes ago, CloudyToday said:

Yes I did but always made the mistake of cutting to soon after a relief, bringing my self into vicious cycle with constant nausea. That’s why it so important to hold for longer periods as I would do now if I were you.
Hope you will get some relief soon 🙏

Hi everyone

I just wanted to drop by with a little update. I am currently on 12 mg, will go to 11 mg in February. I was thinking of holding a little when I would reach 10mg even though I will be fine. I really don’t want to mess up again. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Or should I just keep going down?

I feel very good these days. Very low anxiety. I can feel myself coming back.Old memories coming to the surface. I am starting to love music again and be moved by it. Today was the first day in months that I was not afraid of exercising to the point of fast heartbeat.
I have started a course in nutrition, which I am being helped with and monitored. I am still drinking coffee, and I know it  has to go soon.

My energy is also up.

Today is a good day🙏

Hi Hanna.

I saw that you are one of the members, who, like me, is tapering fluoxetine. Congratulations on getting to where you are.  It's a nerve-wracking process, for sure. Especially at these lower doses.

I held at 10 mg for several months.  More to catch my breath than because I needed to. I don't know if you've seen the Occupancy graphs (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41380-021-01285-w), but the illustration and explaination of of dose-occupancy relationship for fluoxetine is part of why I held as long as I did. It was like getting settled in a very stable place before traveling down the steep slope.  I had made some errors at this point when I was tapering a few years ago - more so with the Wellbutrin than the Fluoxetine, but Wellbutrin affects plasma levels of Fluoxetine, so it was like tapering both simultaneously. My anxiety around experiencing ANYTHING like that again is probably what most strongly informs my current taper and keeps my head in the game when I want to rush. In any event, I felt good for several weeks before I dropped from 10 to 9. Whether I needed to hold that long, I don't know,  but by the time I did drop I felt really good and definitely confident.  The drop has gone well.  It wasn't without it's bumps, but they were nothing like my previous experience years ago (not even close). The symptoms were uncomfortable but completely tolerable and I remained functional.

I just got through a week of feeling blue and irritable - but felt well otherwise.  Sometimes it's hard to tell what is a normal, human experience of mood fluctuation and what is withdrawal. Such a frustrating part of this whole thing! Anyway, that cloud seems to have passed.

I don't usually like to go into detail about my tapering and withdrawal experience on someone else's thread, but I'm hoping that sharing my experience of my hold and what came after will be reassuring to you.

Hooray for a good day!!

Hi @Addax

Thank you so much for this information, I appreciate it.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking would be good idea to hold for a while, given also the long half-life of fluoxetine.

That will be my plan then.

Good on you also with your tapering👏

Thank you🙏

So I am feeling some symptoms from my last drop.
Not sleeping good, 3-4 hours

Lack of energy ( probably lack of sleep)

Hard to concentrate, irritated just overall moody.

So my plan has changed, was going to hold when I reached 10 mg, instead holding now at 11 mg.

So my motto for today is being patient, because some of the best things happen for those who wait 🙏

👋 Hi. Make quiting coffee a bigger priority. Otherwise you're sabotizing your WD by making it extra complicated. Take decaf coffee or decaf cappucino instead, you won't even taste the difference. Rooibos tea is also non caffeinated.

Try hold for a while then go from 11 to 10.5 and then from 10.5 to 10.

You were quite fine just two weeks ago. So stability can't be far away.

Thats right and you're not the first to find out. No other ssri really covers for paxil WD. It just runs its own course. In 2021 you sort of Cold Turkeyed from 20mg of paxil. This would normally take years. Lexapro will mask some, but is  no 1:1 substitute.

Sometimes paxil WD can catch up with you months after. Take smaller steps below 5mg! For example 4.8, 4.5, 4.2.

Ok so for a little update and some encouraging words for myself 😅

So the last few days have been hard. I sometimes don’t know the difference from withdrawals or my menopausal symptoms. Hard to distinguish between those too as I find they can be quite similar at times.
My symptoms are now:

So much sweating

My brain feels numb, and I have a hard time with memory

Unbelievable fatigue

Flue like symptoms

Just feel overall like my body has been hit by a train.

The good news is that my sleep is really good and I have minimal anxiety, so I am really grateful for that. I can push through these symptoms, and I know better days are coming. This is not going to be my final destination. I know my body is working hard to balance itself out. So I will treat it with kindness and I will have compassion for myself.
I am doing the best I can with what I have, and I will focus on what I already have, not on what is lacking.

Onwards and upwards💪

@Hanna72  What a wonderful report! Your attitude and view of this  will carry you far and aid in your healing.   Although your symptoms are difficult, your attitude will keep them from spiraling.   You are doing great! You speak the truth about menopause symptoms being similar to withdraw. Don't try to figure out which is which just know you'll get through it and it will pass.  Neither of them last forever lol. Keep up the good work. Hugs

  1. .025 Xanax 3 x daily  Start date 10-13-2013 through 8-13-2014.  Started tapering 6-2014 to 8-2014.  Some small discomfort. 25 mg Zoloft - Start date 5-1-2014.  50mg. 6-2014.  through 7-14-2014 .  Started tapering  7-14-2014, stopped tapering 10-2014.  I did 1/4 of the dose a month.  small discomfort.  These next 3 were prescribed when I made some seriously bad choices with my thyroid medication.  Was in ER twice for possible heart attack.  INTENSE anxiety, panic, fear.   Lost 30 pounds in 2 weeks.  Thyroid levels bounced to extremes for 8 months. Dr. prescribed Zoloft 50mg  9-2105.  After 2 doses had a bad reaction passed out in my bedroom. Also prescribed Xanax .025  at the same time. 3 times daily, 4 if needed.  Was only on it about 2 weeks.  Was not working.  Trip ER they gave me an Ativan IV and it worked and lasted.  switched to Ativan. 9-24-2016. 1.5 mg Ativan - .5 mg  three x daily -start date 9/24/16.  Attempted taper start 12-16-2016. Was shaving Pills and alternating tapering AM, PM and midday dose weekly.  Buspar .5mg  -2.5mg. am and 2. 5mg. pm start date 9-26-2016 .  Lexapro .10mg  start date  - 10-26-2016. Found SA and began 10/14/2017 tapering .001 by weight of pill  every 4 days Held longer if there were was WD.    Was very sensitive to Ativan. 3-15-2018 Off midday dose - 7-16-2018 Off PM dose - OFF ATIVAN! 11-17-2018 10 mg. Lexapro. This! Sometimes I sit there and try to parse out what’s perimenopause and what’s withdrawal. I’m not even sure it matters because there isn’t much I can do about either… I guess it would be reassuring to know, but none of it feels good.

The symptoms are hard. Awful. I sometimes have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that healing can feel so bad.  But I guess like you said, our body is working hard to reach homeostasis as it adapts to having less of the medication around.

Getting that sleep will help, for sure. And being kind to yourself and showing yourself compassion will work wonders as well.  I have to remember to do that.

Thank you @Moonpieand @Addaxfor dropping by my thread, I appreciate you.

So I am getting a little scared as I don’t feel good at all.

Been having dizziness and nausea constantly. Also left leg is very sensitive to the touch. I have pressure headache and have to wear sunglasses in my home as I am very sensitive to light. I was supposed to work this weekend but had to call in sick as I feel awful. Trying not to overthink this. My blood pressure was also very high yesterday, never had this before,( that I know of) so that also frightened me. High blood pressure runs in my family so I don’t know….
Have cut caffeine out completely!

Might be the flu, but I don’t have fever.

Anyways wanted to have this here as my report.

Hi Hanna72,

I am sorry to hear of this as you seemed to be doing so well and only a few days ago posted that your sleep was really good.  Dizziness and nausea are very scary symptoms.  You can get vertigo (dizziness) with menopause too.  I don't know if you have tried HRT but it is not listed in your signature.  I take bio identical HRT and would not be without it now.  I started it in 2019 and it has definitely helped with the withdrawal I was going through at the time from Cymbalta.

Oaktree

Currently tapering Mirtazapine; previously tapered Cymbalta 30mg from June 2018-Feb 2019 and Seroquel 150mg to zero from Oct-December 2020.

Supplements for Hashimoto's disease and histamine issues relating to Mirtazapine:   Vitamin D3 1,000mcg, bio-identical HRT, Selenium, Quercetin, Lutein, Zinc, Vitamin C, Omega 3.

Mirtazapine Taper: 2021 16th Aug -  transitioned to liquid from tablet by dissolving two 15mg tablets into a solution of 15 ml water and 15 ml maple syrup on a starting dose of what I thought was 7.5ml; 17 Sept  - 7.31; 24 Sept  - 7.13; 15 Oct  - 6.95; 6 Nov  - 6.78; 21 Nov  - 6.61; 5 Dec  - 6.51;

Following helpful advice from moderator OnMyWay (see her  reply of the 5th March) discovered taper with the dilution was 3.8mg (calculated by dividing 30/33 so that every 1ml of solution has  0.90ml of Mirtazapine.  7.50 - 0.90= 6.6ml which was the starting dose on 16th Aug 2021 not 7.5ml).  I decided to keep using the solution as I didn't want more change to deal with than I had to.

This is not 'medical advice' - my 'non medical advice' is don't get any more 'medical advice' or you may end up getting more 'medical treatment' i.e more drugs, DSM labels and/or ECT.   Please do not PM me thanks.
