Moderator Emeritus manymoretodays Posted November 2, 2020 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted November 2, 2020 Oh, Bravo!!!! Thank you Alto!! Excellent! Late 2023- gone to emeritus status, inactive, don't @ me, I can check who I've posted on, and I'm not really here like I used to be......thanks. Started with psycho meds/psychiatric care circa 1988. In retrospect, and on contemplation, situational overwhelm. Rounding up to 30 years of medications(30 medication trials, poly-pharmacy maximum was 3 at one time). 5/28/2015-off Adderal salts 2.5mg. (I had been on that since hospital 10/2014) 12/2015---just holding, holding, holding, with trileptal/oxcarb at 75 mg. 1/2 tab at hs. My last psycho med ever! Tapered @ 10% every 4 weeks, sometimes 2 weeks to 2016 Dec 16, medication free!! Longer signature post here, with current supplements. Herb and alcohol free since 5/15/2016. And.....I quit smoking 11/2021. Lapsed. Redo of quit smoking 9/28/2022, and again finally 5/25/24. Can you say Hallelujah?(took me long enough)💜 None of my posts are intended as medical advice. Moderator Emeritus arbor Posted November 2, 2020 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted November 2, 2020 Dear Alto--Thank you so much for this interview. And for all that you do. AJ716
Hiya, thanks for this interview. I'm familiar with the term "relapse" regarding drug abuse like narcotics but not anti depressants (the negative connotation associated with drug relapse usually suggests abuse). The first time I noticed it used referring to AD use was yesterday and the second was in this interview. I cannot wrap my head around the context it was being used by Altostrata's doctors. At first it seemed like an insult, as if to indicate she had failed and it was wrong of her to want reinstatement of the medication to find relief. Of course we know the symptoms are related to a reaction of the meds and/or discontinuation of them. However from the doctor's perspective: if they believed it was an actual relapse (the return of her original symptoms and reason the AD was original prescribed), why would they refuse to reinstate the medication and help alleviate the symptoms? It's soo angering and frustrating to hear of this abandonment of the doctors. It seems to me that if they honestly believed it was a relapse in the true sense of the word they would have happily given her a prescription. What the doctors actually seemed to be doing was punishing her for thinking her problems were caused by the medication. Am I correct in my perception? 1 Cymbalta: Currently 48.5 mg. Previously 60 mg, 2011-Oct 2020. Taper: Oct 11-13 (three day reduction of 30 mg relieved many Serotonin Toxicity symptoms but WD became too harsh). Oct 14- 24 (eleven day reduction of 10%, 54 mg). Oct 25 (began second reduction of 10%, 48.5 mg; holding to stabilize and work on schedule). Zoloft 100 mg. 1993-2000 Stopped CT for pregnancy twice, then it pooped out. Reinstated 2011-2020. Taper attempt: Oct 17-24 (seven days at 87.5 mg was discontinued; reinstated to 100 mg). Buprenorphine: 8 mg (4 mg 2x day @ 4pm and 1am) Atenolol: 25 mg (max 2x day; prn). Xanax: .125 mg (max 3x day; prn; average 2x). HRT: Transdermal weekly patch. Melatonin OTC: 2.5 mg, sleep. Magnesium Citrate OTC: 125 mg, dinner. Oct-Nov 2020: Discontinued Simvastatin 20 mg, Magnesium Glycinate, Vitamin D, and Chia Seed Extract. Growing sensitivities.

Mentor RachelSusan Posted November 29, 2020 Mentor Share Posted November 29, 2020 Shep, Thank you for posting. I loved when Alto mentioned that once someone is labeled with a mental illness the doctors tend to discount their opinions. I also liked it when she suggested that we hold our doctor's feet to the fire with giving us answers, but while doing so we must appear extremely and calm and never raise our voices so they don't assume we have have relapsed. I also loved the last question, what gives you hope? Over all an excellent interview. I loved every single second of it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 1 I am not a health professional in any way. Sonia009
Great interview, amazing lady! To learn that Alto took 11years to recover from Paxil 10mg withdrawal really puts things in perspective for me. There are so many sad stories on SA that mine seems trivial in comparison, however, listening to Alto, her situation is not that dissimilar to my own, withdrawing from one ssri that is and on a low dose. The young Royals have brought anxiety and depression to the forefront recently, having experienced some issues themselves which has been great for the cause and has given hope to many. Like Alto said, Britain is starting to take notice but it takes time to filter down to GP's themselves. I agree that we all need to play our part when speaking to our GP about how we are affected by withdrawal. I have tried with two GP's but got nowhere but, if we all speak up they would have to listen to us. 2008 10 mg Citalopram, 2.5 mg bendroflumethiazide 2021 reduced Citalopram over three years,2023 5.2 mg Citalopram for approx. 1 year Sept 2023 taken off Citalopram and bendroflumethiazide , put on Amitriptyline 10 mg and Ramipril 2.5 mg October 2023 taken off Amitriptyline and Ramipril put on Propranolol 10 mg October 2023 put on Losartan 25 mg November 2023 taken off Losartan on Propranolol 10 mg December 2023 now on 2.5 mg bendroflumethiazide + Citalopram 0.5 mg. Moderator bunchesofoats Posted January 15, 2021 Moderator Share Posted January 15, 2021 I'm not sure if this is the best place for this post (I looked for a more directly relevant thread), but I wanted to thank @Altostrataonce again. I'm currently watching the webinar "Introducing the Withdrawal Series and Setting the Scene." It's the second time I've seen you speak on a panel, and once again I am wildly impressed with your clear-mindedness and eloquence. It feels incredibly therapeutic for me to hear you speak so directly and completely about this topic that I usually feel like I am dealing with alone. I wish I would've encountered even just one medical professional in the last few years who was at all familiar with this. Luke's description of experience with CBT also completely resonated with me. It took me two years to realize that I wasn't making progress because the issues were stemming from the medication. I also appreciated Swapnil pointing out that there is an extra social risk for some people - for example young black men who may be going through symptoms may face disproportionate consequences in our society. Since going through my own withdrawal experience (discontinuation, whatever the best word for it is), I look around at others differently. I can't help but wonder how much of our current societal issues stem directly from people having adverse experiences with SSRIs or similar classes of medications. Wishing everyone good health, courage, hope, and tenacity. 2005 - 2016 on & off methylphenidate and bupropion; short terms trials of other medications; tried many supplements 2016 Nov - 2017 Mar citalopram ramp up 0-->30mg (4 months) 2017 Mar - 2018 Jan held at 30mg (11months); taking 1.5x 20mg tablets, cutting 20mg tablets in half. inconsistency in split tablet led to extreme side effects. 2018 Feb - 2018 May taper 30mg-->20mg (3months), ~2.5mg/month, cutting tablets; at 20mg side effects (vertigo, headache, etc) disappeared 2018 May - 2019 Apr held at 20mg (11months); attempted taper from 20mg; tried ~17.5mg cutting tablets but symptoms too strong 2019 Apr - 2021 Jun tapered 20mg-->10mg (26months); ~5%/month dissolving tablets in water and pipetting with syringe; min lorazepam 2-3x/mo to mitigate symptoms 2021 Jun - 2023 Nov held at 10mg (29months) 2023 Nov - Nov 7 10mg solid to liquid; Dec 7 liquid 10mg; Dec 14 9.9mg; Dec 21 9.8mg; Dec 28 9.75mg; Jan 27 9.65mg; Feb 3 9.53mg; Feb 18 9.45mg

Thankyou so so much. I'm so grateful that Altostrata started SA. I don't know where I would be right now. This journey is so lonely when you have have doctors who no clue, or simply don't accept withdrawal is a reality..... It's so great to put a face to the name! Thanks again and keep up the fantastic work! There's still so much to be done sadly.... I have just found this post with the link for the interview, I listened to the audio. Its so soothing to hear @Altostrata Talk about how the Doctors that you grew up to respect putting your faith/health in their hands ultimately know very little about the effect the medication has on our mind & bodies! How Big Pharma have manipulated the market so that SSRIs are the first port of call for the doctors. The ignorance of the withdrawal from 99% of professionals and how the medication alters your CNS which your body then becomes dependant. I'll echo my thoughts about this forum again! I am grateful too Alto for starting this forum/movement and going out on a limb to bring her knowledge & experience to everybody. Other wise I think thousands of us would be in 1 massive cycle of pain with no light at the end of the tunnel, Its life saving! 2 2001 - 2011 Paroxetine, Propranolol, Venlafaxine X2, Citalopram.
