Hi everyone

I am the only one there that had put on me 40 pounds since taking effexor?!??!!

I took 75mg of effexor during 4 months and now I am 40 pounds heavier, despite eating properly and doing sports.

I talked to a pharmacist and he said that it can happen to some people, because it do reducing metabolism rate.

Also, he told me that trintellix would have less weight gain than effexor.

Did someone tried trintellix here? How it was and if you tried both, which you found was the best for avoiding weight gain?

Do the metabolism will adapt to antidepressant and rise up at the end? 😮💨

Dear Maliba,

Welcome to SA. We are a site for coming off of antidepressants in a way that reduces the withdrawal symptoms of stopping the drugs. We are not a site that helps choose the 'right' drug or advises on the right drug cocktail or what to switch to.

We follow scientific evidence that shows convincingly that antidepressants are no better than placebo at treating depression as a result can't in good faith recommend any antidepressants.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4172306/

Their prescribing is based on the misguided chemical imbalance myth.

https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/debunking-two-chemical-imbalance-myths-again. Here's the former head of the APA admitting it's a myth but denying, unfortunately, that it was a myth perpetuated by the whole psychiatric establishment.

Good luck to you and hope you find a solution to this issue.

If and when you decide to come off of these drugs please do so very carefully by lowering your dosage by no more than 10% of your previous dose a month. You can browse the the site more to see what the alternative can do to people.

Hope you feel better soon

There is no right drug but to taper safely as per recommendations here  and choose natural alternatives. Get your blood levels check, see a naturopath instead.  Supportive therapist and friends and family is the way to go. Believe me I've had 27 years of experience with various drugs, it is like making a deal with the devil, sooner or later you wake up with side effects and suicidal ideation and doctors throwing drugs at you.

2023 - July - 4 beads or 1.6 mg, tapering 1 bead per month since 13 beads, will be done on October 31, 2023

2022 - 15 beads or 5.5 mg of Effexor, tapering 10 percent, doing 2 beads per month at the moment. Held 4 months due to increase in anxiety.

2018 - Effexor taper - 10% - 47 mg

2017 - Tapered off  Trazadone with THC oil

2016 - Suicidal ideation returned Effexor up to 225 mg, trazadone 150 mg, Lorazepam prn,

2015 - June - Reintroduced Effexor after CNS crash due too fast a taper, off work for 3 months. Addition of Lorazepam, Trazodone and Zoplicone. Zoplicone used for 3 months only

2014 - Fast taper off Effexor

2012 - 6 month taper off Effexor, CNS destabilized, back on Effexor in May, off work for 3 months

2006 - February - Taper off Effexor again by April 2006 return on effexor 150 - 225 mg

2001- January wanting to get pregnant, tapered on my own by August Remeron 30 mg was tried, September back on effexor 150 mg

1999 - Effexor maintenance dose of 150 mg, by October I wanted to switch to Celexa 20- 40 mg, not working suicidal ideation return to effexor

1996 - 1998 Zoloft (not effective), Luvox (not effective) Elavil (not effective), Serzone (taken off market but worked), Paxil (worked for 1.5 years and pooped out) OD on Xanax, Risperdal gave me a seizure
