Fuzzyhead: Fluoxetine help

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’ve been taking fluoxetine for most of the last ten years for severe anxiety. They seemed to be making me worse (horrible physical symptoms) so I dropped from 60mg to 40mg three months ago and it’s been hell.

I have constant anxiety, extreme stiffness, twitching, shaking, trouble moving…among other things.  I.m terrified I’ve got Parkinson’s but everyone says not.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I’d love some advice and encouragement. :)

You made a drop of 37% all at once. We never suggest more than 10% a month, and some go much slower than that. That is why you are having the wd symptoms you are having.

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

Since you did this 3 months ago, I would suggest just holding at the 40 mg until you stabilize and then begin a taper of not more than 10% a month as the link I provided above will explain. You could also do the Brassmonkey taper which is gentler on your system.

In the meantime, you could try magnesium and omega to help calm your nervous system. Try one in a small amount and wait a few days before introducing the other.

Hi, welcome Fuzzyhead, I’m currently tapering from fluoxetine too. I definitely notice similar symptoms when I taper too fast.

I joined this community in February this year and the 3 things that I’ve learnt on  and make a huge difference is 1. understanding that we have to go slow to allow our brain to heal. Too much stress or pressure doesn’t work well. 2. Without consistency, we cause ourselves more harm. Ie, taking doses every other day. We end putting our brain in a confused state without the consistency. 3. There will be good days and bad days through our taper and after. we call them “waves and windows”. A self compassionate and understanding mindset really helps get through this I find.

Please do go through the links shared above. when I joined, I received similar and it seemed a lot of info at first but everyone was patient and helpful in getting me 5 months in on my tapering journey :)

I wish you all the best :)
